Mine are slightly bent. Rather than get a scaffold pole on them to straighten them, or get a second hand set, to save me getting the tape measure out, what Renthals are closest to standard FZS600 ones?

Evaluating the new can!
I really do like sound of the original silencer, but have to admit it is a tad on the large side! Almost as bad as the original "Scud" bolted on the side of my old GTR!
As I fitted a Delkevic on the Kwak, thought lets try one on the new toy, fair bit of metal for the cost.
So, trip to DK and came back with the new can, fitted so easily, looks the mutts, and after a few miles well happy with the sound and the mildest of popping on the overrun!

I have a 98 FZS600 which has terrible problems with its rear brake caliper. I have rebuilt it before however the same problem keeps occurring with the pistons getting jammed at an angle. This time its so seized that even I am willing to admit defeat  :'(


To be fair this bike has been used as a commuter hack for years through winters and all - its a hell of a good bike and this is the only significant problem I have had in 8 years.


I don't want to replace it with a stock caliper from ebay, because they suck and need constant cleaning. Does anyone know of a cost effective aftermarket caliper that will fit so that I can get through an MOT? The bike is only worth ~£900 so I'm not aiming high.

Good afternoon all! I hope you are all keeping well? OK, im looking at the fz6s after a 13 year break, what should i look out fir when chosing the right bike? Its been years since i tinkered or rode so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

So following from the FZ1 faq I did I am slowly working through all bullet points that I didn't have any info for at the time, namely the immobiliser that comes with a lot of newer Yamaha's. This system uses an antenna bolted to the ignition barrel that is connected to the ECU, when you place your key (which is coded to the ECU) in the barrel and turn on the ignition the ECU then does a hand-shake with the key allowing you to start the bike. So after a chat with 2 Yamaha dealers and 3x Auto Locksmiths (for motorcycles) I have collected the following info that should help out fellow owners -

• If you loose one of your spare black/blue (normal) ignition keys - they can provide a blank for £35-30 and can then program it from your red key typically 30mins labour. Although why you would pay a dealer to do something you should be able to do yourself
  
• If you loose your red master key but still have one of your black/blue (normal keys) - they wont able to help you. Their response is that you would have to buy a replacement lockset, ECU and immobiliser antenna.
  

• If you loose one of your spare black/blue (normal) ignition keys - they can provide a blank and program it for £65 for one key or £120 for 2 keys.
  
• If you loose your red master key but still have one of your black/blue (normal keys) - they can provide a blank and program it for £65 for one key or £120 for 2 keys.
  
• If your ign. barrel gets damaged (when someone tried to steal it) they can provide a replacement barrel and key £65 for key andprice of ign. barrel varies (amazon/ebay etc)
  
• If you loose ALL your keys, they can either come out to you and program a set of keys £350-450 or you can bring the ignition barrel (anntena is bolted to it), the petrol lock, seat lock and ECU and they will cut and program a set of keys for £200. Bey aware this process takes upto 5hrs.

• Insert RED MASTER key, turn on, start engine, stop and remove key.
  
• Immobilizer light will start after 30 seconds
  
• Reinsert MASTER key, turn ignition on, then off, remove MASTER and insert NEW key within 5 seconds and switch on ignition.
  
• Remove NEW key, then re-insert and switch on, new key will enable immobilizer off and start engine.

• The Yamaha YISS isn't full proof, as it can be bypassed with a modify sub-loom that can be plugged into the main-loom bypassing the immobilisation function completely. Its always a good idea to have an alarm on the bike also - https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/re...mobiliser.
  
• The immobiliser emulators being sold on sites like ebay are technically illegal, yet ebay isnt doing f*ck all about them.
  
• Beyond 2009 the morick system (yiss ) software/chipset was changed - and this can cause compatibility problems for the programming software that locksmiths use.
  
• When programming your own spare key from the red master, you can only have one spare. If you want more than one spare, then its a trip to an Autolocksmith or your local yam dealer.
  

Hi I’m after a gen1Fazer 1000 please, looking for a nice clean tidy one

Gen 2 centrestand and fixings wanted.

My 2008 FZ1 came with 1 key and the red master.
Having lost or broke keys in the past, me thinks better get another spare black one just in case.
Bought spare off eBay, arrived and cut at local key grinder, chip read as per spec found on-line, jobs a good 'un!
Here's the BUT though, original black key that came with the bike now longer acknowledged by immobiliser! :'(
So, programme original key, then new one won't be seen by ECU!
Is this just the way it is? Only 1 key as with master allowed to be programmed at a time? Or have I just bought a DUD from the Bay? :\
So spare key to be read when original lost, which is why red master is so valuable?

Bike sorted. Er, well, no actually, the wheels are still off after being balanced, but i'll sort it tomorrow morning.

Missus prepped for a long time in the saddle. Check.

Licence, V5 and insurance stashed on bike. Check.

Hotel on the way down booked and paid for. Check.

There's lots more but I'm getting over excited now.

I'm Bob, 37 and on the West Coast of Scotland. Have a 2009 fz1-s. Love it! Had it 2 years now. Its got 37k miles under its belt and never missed a beat for an mot, 1 fail for tyres being done and only advisories were for wheel bearings and rear suspension bearing! Happy days!


I am not very experienced with mechanics but need to learn as I can't afford to send it to the garage for the slightest wee jobs anymore as furlough has been a hard time (for everyone I know) so I am probably going to ask lots of stupid or frustrating questions, so I appreciate your patience in advance!


Hope to get to know a few of you enough for some laughs and banter too.
