I was watching the British Moto GP yesterday and had to laugh , one of the guys commentating mentioned that he thought Marquez looked like the joker out of the Bat Man movies, have to say he is spot on with that observation.
It is the Lips.

Posted by: Chris - 02-09-13, 09:32 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (2)

Hey all,

Going to be doing up my front brakes over winter with new braided lines, pads, discs and seals.

Do you think this seal kit will be ok?

Are my wheel bearings knackered? (video)
Posted by: elbrownos - 02-09-13, 08:04 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

So I thought I'd knackered my chain (see this thread http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,9648.0.html )
But I was advised to pop the chain off and see if it was the chain or the wheel bearings.
I've posted two videos - one with the chain off and one with the chain on.

Chain off:
Wheel spinning - no chain
I'm guessing it's not supposed to make that knocking noise?

Chain on:
Wheel spinning - with chain
It doesn't spin nearly as long as it did a few weeks ago, which makes me suspect the chain.
And the chain does sound really noisy. But I had a good feel of it and there were no tight links. I'm not sure what a new chain feels like so I can't tell if the whole chain is stiffer than it should be.
Also in this video you can hear a high pitched squeal from the wheel when it's turning slowly.
The bike's still riding fine and the weird noises at the rear have almost gone away.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Engine cuts out when put in gear
Posted by: Dead Eye - 02-09-13, 05:46 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (40)

So I've finally got to a point in my rebuild, after the crash 4 weeks ago, that I was ready to test the bike on the road...

Bike was reluctant to start at first, but it came to life and everything seemed like normal. Still on the centre stand I figured I'd check everything out first to make sure I didn't get any nasty surprises. Kicked it in to gear with the clutch pulled in and the engine cuts out... crap.

So I put my investigating hat on and immediately set about checking the Sidestand switch. Got my multimeter out and checked resistance across the switch - all good! Checked the Fuses (Haynes suggested to :\) and they all seem fine. At this point my multi-meter decided it would run out of battery power and I don't have any spares so that's me done for now and figured I'd get some ideas from you good folk

So here it is laid out;

  • Engine cuts out when put in to gear
  • Sidestand switch tested ok with multi-meter
  • Fuses ok
  • Engine off, in 1st, clutch pulled in - won't start
I'm thinking my next step is to test the clutch switch?

  FZS rear swing arm bearings
Posted by: stonedpillock - 02-09-13, 04:14 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Hi guys
It looks like my swing arm bearings are on the way out. I've got 2-3mm sideways play when pulling the chain up and down. Bike has 34k on the clock and I've owned it from new. Any tips on best way of doing it? Haven't got any prices on bearings yet but was going to fit gen yam ones as 34k isn't too bad a mileage is it? If anyone has fitted alternative makes of good quality bearings let me know.
Should I change the linkage bearings as well? There is a bit of up and down play but not too much about 1mm I'd say.
Also I've seen some comments on short wheel bearing life mine are still original and seem ok.Although I use the bike allyear round and don't use pressure hoses. Also I'm only on my 2nd chain and sprockets so not sure about the short chain life comments. Although I do use a scottoiler. And no I don't ride like an old fart! (not all the time anyway)

I'm going to do the work myself so anyone who has done this job let me know how you got on and what special tools I need to get.

Cheers Smile Smile
