Hey , as titled is isopropyl alcohol ok to clean chains without damaging the x rings? , its way cheaper than the aerosol cleaners on the market.

WTD - Centre stand and ignition barrel + key for fzs 1000
Posted by: Yam - 24-03-18, 10:15 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

As above I'm after a centre stand with the required spring and bolts to fit a gen 1 thou '02. I also require an ignition barrel as mine is too worn to reliable anymore, I would take just the ignition but I wouldn't say know to a complete matching lock set.

  Rear tyre balancing question
Posted by: Nemesis - 24-03-18, 05:34 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (17)

Hey up Foccers, I put a new rear tyre on yesterday,  when I asked about balancing he said I would need to strip brake disc and drive cog off first, is he speaking shit or am I worrying over nothing just a question for future reference as next time then I'll probably renew both items whilst all stripped.

Probably not one for the purists - A monster amalgamation of some of my previous Yamaha toys - although it was frustrating on many an occasion.  It took nearly 18 months to go from my photoshop idea to reality, but thats because I have a day job & a family, so spare time comes at a premium.

Fazer 1000 Gen 1 Engine & Frame, now backdated a bit, with Tail End frame mods to fit seat & rear cowl from a YZF 750 (circa 1995), and Front subframe mods to fit the Fairing & Headlights from an FZ 750 (circa 1985), but keeping the original clocks.
Retro - No ABS, no traction control, no chip-controlled throttle, no electronic fuel injection, no ride control modes, …
Pure Sports - Twist it, feel it, ride it ….. simple.  And I love it.

By the way, I have the original parts available if anyone is looking to repair their Fazer Gen 1  ….
Front:  Fairing, Screen, Headlights, Front subframe, Fairing inners.
Rear:  Seat, Rear Cowling, Tail lights, Exhaust (slip-on only), seat lock & cable assembly.

  Anyone with modded flies?
Posted by: Dudeofrude - 24-03-18, 04:24 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Does anyone here have a gen 2 with removed or modded secondary flies?
I'm just Interested to know if it made a noticable difference?
Same with velocity stacks.

Suns coming out and I'm getting back in the mood for some more mods haha

Lucky to get away with this one!
Posted by: BMCfaz - 23-03-18, 08:48 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (15)

A lorry reversed into me while I was stopped behind him. Luckily I was square on behind him, so he pushed me backwards rather than over, so no damage to me, but the bike needs work! One tiny mark on the back of the truck was all he had to show for it!
Waiting to hear from the company who own the truck to see what they want to do, but would the concensus on here be to go straight through my insurers or see if they want to pay me out?
I'll strip it down over the weekend to see if the fairing framework is damaged, but it's at least new fairing and inners, headlight unit and screen.

Checked under my sprocket cover today... what is this?
Posted by: MFD - 22-03-18, 03:29 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (28)

So I finally got round to taking the sprocket cover off to check the nut today, and I've not seen a sprocket like this before.

[smg id=3108]

It looks like some kind of plastic or resin was moulded around the sprocket, going out so far that the remaining parts touch the chain side plates. What weirdness have I stumbled onto?

I've also got the old 9mm thick nut, which I've read should be upgraded to a 12mm thick one, but there's only ~1mm of thread exposed on  the end of the output shaft. Do I need to change more than just the nut and locktab?

Thanks
