FZS600/FZ6 rear calliper swap. Feasible?
Posted by: mr self destruct - 15-02-18, 07:13 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (12)

After five years of Fazer riding I’m getting totally pissed off with my rear calipers seizing. I’ve had my original rebuilt, got a newer one, swapped that for a thou caliper, and they’ve all seized. My local mechanic says they’re prone to it as they’re mounted underneath the swingarm and catch all the shit off the road, which seems to make sense to me.
So, has anyone tried fitting the caliper and bracket from an FZ6? It doesn’t look like the swingarm are interchangeable, but I’m wondering if the brakes can be.
In the FZ6 bracket there’s a recess that mates to a lug on the swingarm which allows the whole thing to slide for chain adjustment.
Maybe if I could get a similar lug welded to my swingarm (or even drill a hole in the arm and mount a bolt with a big enough head in its place) this would fit?

  Rubber retaining bands. All three?
Posted by: Decoke Dave - 14-02-18, 08:22 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (10)

These three black rubber retaining bands.  The one buried up near the rear light in the tail cowling I assume is for the toolkit, its pretty crap as there is hardly any room at all for the tools and bag? :\ Shite really!
What are the other two for, the one nearer the battery and the one attached to the underside of the the seat?

  WANTED: FZS1000 Addons/mods/screen/exhaust/guage/givi etc
Posted by: JonnyFoxtrot - 14-02-18, 02:05 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - No Replies

Hi all,

Pick up my 2005 FZS1000 tomorrow and once its home I'll be doing oil/filter changes and having a look at the EXUP.

But after I'll be looking to start adding bits to it to improve handling, touring, comfort, tech etc. Looking to buy and bits you might have spare to suit or mods that you no longer want or were thinking of getting rid off. Mine appears to be fairly standard so try me with anything and I might have it off you for the right price. Givi rack/sides would be nice, as well as a not too loud slip on as I'll be doing ivans at some point. Shock and fork upgrades would also be good as well as a decent set of 758 Renthal bars. Let me know what you have!

New Gen 1 Thou Owner from Essex

Hi all, picking up my new to me 05 FZS1000 on Thursday and have been lurking on the forum for a few months trying to get as much info as possible. I can already tell there’s loads of knowledgeable people here and hopefully I won’t end up having to ask too many questions. Can’t wait to start riding and tinkering with the bike, first things first, fresh oil and filter and tackle the EXUP!!

  FZ1 chain adjusters
Posted by: Mustang - 13-02-18, 10:20 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (4)

Just swopped my back tyre on my gen 2 and the swing arm is sort of open inside, not a fully welded closed up box. The chain adjuster bolts are completely exposed to the elements behind the swing arm . My bike is
LOw miles and looks like very dry ones so they were in good nick . I've coated them up in copper grease now. Just thought I'd mention it if other gen 2 riders are bothered.

  London and the ULEZ
Posted by: GhostCat - 12-02-18, 12:34 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Just got this email from TFL.
In a nutshell, any bike registered before July 2007 will be liable to pay the ULEZ charge of £12.50 in the current Congestion zone next February (2019) and within the boundaries of the North & South Circular (proposed, by 2021)
Have a read to see what the mayor has up his sleeve
https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/environ...nsultation
And if you can, complete the online survey and tell him where to poke it !
some background here
https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2016...ndon-ulez/

Quote:We are consulting on the next stage of the Mayor, Sadiq Khan’s plan to help tackle London’s toxic air pollution, which contributes to thousands of early deaths in our city each year.

To have your say visit tfl.gov.uk/airquality-consultation

From 8 April 2019, the Mayor is introducing the Ultra Low Emission Zone in central London, replacing the T-Charge with an even tighter emission standards for diesel vehicles.

To help further reduce toxic emissions in London, the Mayor is also now proposing to:
    •  Extend these tighter emissions standards to the whole of London for lorries, buses and other heavy goods vehicles only in 2020
    •  Expand the ULEZ for all vehicles including cars, vans, motorbikes and minibuses up to the North and South circular roads in 2021

This consultation ends on 28 February 2018.

  Powdercoat or paint ?
Posted by: ArchDruid - 11-02-18, 08:49 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

I have my opinion on this, but I'd like to hear from others...
Assuming that colour matching was not an issue, would you powdercoat or paint ?

I have my Gen1 completely stripped and intending to have Frame, Swing arm & Wheels done.
Perhaps someone has some compelling arguments for one compared to the other.
I'd be interested to hear pro's & cons for both.

Cheers

  Irish Car Parts Traders
Posted by: dickturpin - 11-02-18, 07:13 PM - Forum: General - Replies (9)

I've been looking at replacing the auxiliary drive belt on my wife's car and am beginning to notice a pattern of auto car parts sellers based in Ireland regularly being significantly cheaper than UK sellers.... usually offering free postage.
I'm happy to buy wherever gives a good deal but wonder why these sellers are becoming so competitive? Of course I want genuine parts as described....don't we all...
Any thoughts guys?
