What protection should I but on my battery contacts
Posted by: fazersharp - 19-06-24, 01:13 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

As per the title its a new battery and I have some servisol silicone grease, its says for switch contacts, ignition systems but it also says "high insulation properties".Eh - I dont get it why is it used on contacts if it has high insulation properties.Should I not put anything on, or maybe copper grease, vaseline or the servisol. I am only talking about a very fine smear. Or I also have some ACF 50 I could use.

Engine knocking noise at 4000-4500 RPM only Fazer 600
Posted by: kutce - 19-06-24, 12:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (23)

I just got a 1998 Fazer 600 and rode around 350km on it.
I notice there is a knocking feel on the bike at around 4000-4500 RPM. Its not possible to hear snce its only apperant when driving and the wind becomes louder. It it possible to feel through your legs, hands and butt.
I have no idea what it can be
- Knocking is not present with clutch pulled in
- Knocking is not present at low RPMs
- Knocking is not present or not feelable at high RPMs
- at 4000- 4500 RPM very noticeable constant frequency knocks
- No rattle on the cam chain at idle
- bike start easily
- No rattle when decelerating
- Bike gargles from the exhaust when decelerating, dont know if its worth to mention

What can this be??
I want to check the carburetor syncing then cleaning, maybe one piston is not getting gas and it hits a natural frequency of the bike at 4000 RPM. Next would be to check the chain adjuster. Hopefully its not the cam chain.

Thank you for the help already

  RIP EXUP!

All things must pass..  :'(

A few hours spent trying to get the EXUP valve to operate but it must be slightly warped - cleaned it all, copper greased it all as I always do but this time...nada!

Removed it, blanked the hole in the mounting plate with nut/bolt/washers so running on full bore now!

I wonder how many other Fokkers are riding likewise?  :biker

Ayup,
New on the forum, I've just recently done my full licence having knocked about on a 125 for the last year. Picked up a 2003 FZS600 and absolutely smitten with it.

Bit scraggy on the plastics but is mechanically sound. nether the less waiting on bits to do a full service so that I'm certain its done proper.
may be overkill but gonna change oil, oil filter, sump plug, air filter, fuel filter, plugs and caps.

Couldn't help myself and already swapped out the factory end can for a delkavic unit, luckily the bike looks to have already had stainless headers put on!

looking forward to tapping in to the wealth of knowledge on here, even if I am 20 years late to the party!

  New Battery Questions
Posted by: fazersharp - 18-06-24, 04:32 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Just brought a new battery Yuasa YT12B-BS to replace my 26 year old OEM one.So now we are not allowed to fill them ourselves it has been filled in the factory and charged. But you are not supposed to let them discharge - not good for them so without a "charged on" date how do we know when it was last charged. The instructions say if below 12.4v then charge before use. I measured it at 12.84 but I am giving it a nice charge before putting on the bike, from then on it will be on an optimate type charger continually.
Out of interest my OEM one was reading 13.1v when I took it off.So I imagine that it is shipped from Japan dry and somewhere in this country it is filled and charged.

New Battery Time only been 26 years
Posted by: fazersharp - 17-06-24, 01:54 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

So a new battery it is then after 26 years. I will be putting a Yuasa one on and from research it looks like its a Yuasa YT12B-BS. Not too bad price in Halford's at £62.I read that the BS means bottle supplied so I put the electrolyte in myself but halfords state "Battery comes pre-filled & ready to fit
100% maintenance free" so do they put it in at halfords or is it shipped from the factory already filled so it is not actually a BS battery ?
