Hi guys. Generally how long do the ignition coils/leads last on these bikes?
Got a ‘99 that is having some issues, suspect it’s the pilot circuit on the no.3 carb but they’ve already been out and cleaned. Just investigating other things before the PITA of taking them out again (more specifically the PITA of putting them back in).
The coils didn’t seem to match the Haynes manual specs although I’m not particularly good with a multi-meter so that could be me, the bike runs fine once revving but misfires on the 3rd cylinder at idle.
hi there , i have a 2001 fzs600. this fuel gauge has played up before but was cured simply by disconnecting fuel reader connection block spraying wD 40 into it and ridding the furring ( ver de gris ) off the connections and it was working perfectly again. this time possibly coincidentally as a result of needing to temporarily disconnect the battery to do a different job entirely , found the fuel gauge which worked before was now not working properly , that is to say not working as it should ! i have checked for the same issue as first time , all clean still and no reason to suspect similar reason as before .
the tank is about 70% full yet the fuel gauge will slowly climb up to the first mark above empty and no more , the needle drops back where it should when ign off, so it is operating but not normally ( if were allowed to use such a word these days :lol [size=78%]) [/size]

[size=1em]although the gauge wont go any higher than first mark , would it react normally when fuel is lower than where its reading right now?[/size]
[size=1em]does the fuel warning light depend on working fuel gauge? is it linked or independent to the fuel gauge , in other words can i rely on the fuel warning light despite faulty gauge ?[/size]
[size=1em]just thought of a third question now , when fuel warning light does come on , how much fuel do you have left ? obviously fuel up immediately but what does the fuel warning light represent in mileage terms ? [/size]
On my BSA A50 import from America, its running Boyer ignition and 12v battery but no ignition switch only two rocker switches. one presumably the ignition on /off and the other headlights.
Ive never come across this sort of wiring before. from the diagram I would like to know a few things.
1/. both high and low beam are joined into relay 1, will the relay dip the bulb?
2/. are both 20amp fuses needed in line?
3/. probably need a horn and rear brake switch, where is the best place to feed from?
4/. 2 relays? are they both needed?
going to rewire but there are brackets fitted and the frame has been powder coated as is. just looking to replace old wire for new.

Got an advisory for an exhaust leak and it's on the webbed section of the headers where they meet. Was going to explore option of welding it as I'm aware of the nightmares people have with the studs.
Decided to have a tentative fiddle and to my amazement (relief) all 8 nuts turn. The ones I can see it's definitely nut and not stud that's turning.
So....should i replace the nuts only or when I fit new headers should I remove the studs and replace too?
Any experience of this or suggestions what it could be before I go back to the mechanic greatly appreciated -
I don't ride much in winter but a couple of months ago I rode into the city centre probably early February. While riding slowly in heavy traffic around the streets, my bike just died. Dash went blank and restart attempts just resulted in useless clicking sound. I had it recovered and checked. They said it was just an old battery and changed it and checked everything. Does that sound right ? I though once you have a running engine it should be a self sustaining system.
Anyhow, two days ago I went to ride into work. Again zero electric power and totally blank dash. I charged the battery overnight for 12 hours and in the morning it showed "Charged and maintaining" on the charger and the bike started (I didn't ride anywhere). Now this morning I went for a ride along the coast and after about 5 miles, same thing again. Down shifted to 2nd and slowed to let an oncoming car pass at which point bike again died. I had enough battery to attempt a few restarts but not enough to get going again, managed a few rotations and then useless clicking again. I have left it there while I decide what to do. Go back with another new battery, or have it recovered some place else maybe..
Just rejoined, I was on here many years ago, sold my first Fazer and stopped using the site. When I saw sense and bought another FOC-U was in the book of face, so loitered on there, now finally joined up, mainly to get at the tech side having just had my oil and coolant decide to cohabit
After what 5ish years, my X10 is up for sale, I'm just not using it and it's a waste, full pictures in the links below.
The last 4 years it's hardly been used, it was bought as a commuter back in mid 2017. After 4 months my work location changed and it really wasn't needed, never used through the winter as intended. I just couldn't bring myself to sell just in case and I loved the odd dry summer rides I did on it. I've done in that time 3670miles, the majority of that in the first year, the average in the last few years is between 500 - 6miles, last year is the 6 to it's MOT and back! It's not been used this year as yet. The bike was stripped in 2017, all the well known issues were dealt with see my post here with full pictures https://x9ownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.p...#msg283863 serviced, Denali horn and HID conversion fitted. The latter is easily disconnected for MOTs if you're worried or your tester doesn't like them, they will be removed if a new owner doesn't want them. The bike is due a new belt/guides/weights at it's next service (waiting for the service light) all are ready and waiting and will be thrown in. The bike is stored in a garage, hooked up the a Opimate, it's totally reliable bike, it never fails to start first prod even after many months of non use in the garage.
The bike was registered 2 July 2012, has covered to date 11136 miles, which is below average for the year, MOT 06 Sept 24, currently SORN, this is a push the button and ride, nothing other than routine serving will need doing. ULEZ compliant, I've had max 95 mpg with averages of 67mpg motorway/city and 88 mpg long rides on mixture of A and B roads, it's a perfect long haul and commuter in one. Not many bikes you can don all your riding kit, ride to the coast, remove the riding kit including boots, store it under the seat, walk around in shorts/tee shirt all day, return to the bike get donned up and ride home. From my research at the time of buying, it's the best maxi scoot available, packed with features, ABS, Traction control, factory fitted immobiliser, illuminated switch gear, too full face helmets will fit under the seat. The seat is an armchair I've done 5 hours in one go on it. I was always very anti Maxi scooter until a good friend got one for commuting, suggested I tried it, kicking and screaming I did, couldn't believe how good it was and bought one. It will see off just about anything up to 40mph off the lights and there's nothing road wise it can't do, extremely stable in cross winds handles very well, not much will get away from you on the twisty's.
I'm now starting to do more adventure/off road stuff, the bike isn't getting or will be used in the foreseeable and it's taking up space.
The bike is in very good condition, both keys, all paperwork and fully serviced, located in the Melton Mowbray area, looking for £2k ovno.
