Bayern are playing too good, if you know what I mean. I guess Chelsea will win. Don't like Russian mobsters, but Drogba is a great player. Good luck. Smile

Rear tyre near legal limit = bike not turning at slow speed?
Posted by: Buzz - 19-05-12, 05:23 PM - Forum: General - Replies (24)

Evenin' all...

Just rode my new (to me) '03 FZS 600 60 miles home and it was fine on the quick corners, but starting off and trying to get round a small roundabout was a nightmare!!  On every slow turn the bike just wanted to go straight and I'd find myself running stupidly wide, one left exit I almost had to take at a walking pace, just so not to cross into the incoming lane :eek :eek .

The GS 500 on which I passed DAS was as smooth as silk at any speed so I'm not sure what's wrong.  The rear tyre is pretty close to the legal limit and I'm not sure about the front, it look OK though..would this wear cause the steering problems?  Maybe there's just a secret "Fazer" way of riding I'm not aware of.

It's properly freaked me out I have to say, I thought I knew how to steer a bike..I managed to pass the test with flying colours anyway  Big Grin

Cheers..Buzz

  Front Discs
Posted by: spoonman - 19-05-12, 04:04 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (2)

My front brakes have never been as good as I think they should be. When it was last at the mechanic he put a full litre of fluid through them. He inspected the discs and while they aren't too worn or warped at all he noticed they are worn slightly tapered from in insides out. They are also ridged quite badly.
Looks like new discs and pads. At £275 for parts alone does anyone have any cheaper suggestions?
Do any other discs fit the 2001 fzs 600, like fzs 1000 or R1?
Cheers.

Have my forks been dropped through the yolks?
Posted by: know your limitations - 19-05-12, 12:52 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (27)

I've been looking into various front and rear suspension options over the last couple of months and will ultimately be purchasing one of Devilsyam's R6 shocks when funds allow.
In the meantime, I want to take advantage of the cheap/free adjustments I can make to increase ride height and quality.
I've tinkered with preload, compression and damping settings front and rear and have been much happier with the new feel to the bike.

I've now ordered a 25mm jack up kit for the rear but have also read various posts on the forums relating to dropping the front forks 10mm or so through the yolks.
This pic shows how my forks have been since I purchased the bike but I have no reference to know what the fork height should look like as standard.
Have they already been dropped? If so, any guesses as to how much?
If they haven't.... where do I take the "drop by 10mm" measurement from?

Mine is a 2002 Gen1 1000

Experience tells me that this question will be bread and butter for some of you fine Foccers  Wink

  performance?
Posted by: bludclot - 19-05-12, 08:05 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

does anyone know of any trustworthy performance figures for our bikes? i know mr. yamaha claimed 142 crank bhp for the gen 1 that actually comes in at around 128 wheel brake, but what about 0-60, standing quarter and top speeds? i seem to recall bike magazine listing the gen 1 at 160mph in the bike guide at the back when it was current but bruntingthorpe testing it at 151...

i'm far more interested in standard bike measurements than ivanated or sprocket modded bikes, much more of a useful guide, although modded figures would be interesting too.

Hi all,

Bought an FZS600 (03) in blue a month ago and have done around 1000 miles on it. Wasn't sure about it at first but warming to it with every ride. Last bike was a TDM850 and I'm a bit tall and a bit lardy so getting used to the smaller dimensions and less torque but loving the around town drivability and handling, so much so that I need to get new tyres next week (PR2s).

Looking forward to contributing in some small way to the forum and getting to know you all.

Cheers,
Bob Smile

  Why, who cares?

When I've put a bit of time and thought into my contribution to add to the comments of others, I press POST, and it comes back telling me that whilst I was typing, someone else has added a comment. WHY? Yes, I just may want to revise mine, but had I pressed post a little earlier, I wouldnt have been able to. WHY too, does it delete the comment I'm wanting to post, so that I have to start all over again? I just can't be bothered!
