Two rides in the last few days. Withe Autumn firmly on us and temperatures well down in single figures it was time to dig out the winter gear: Heated grips; Oxford muffs; merino wool long sleeve top; Assos cycling winter wind proof long sleeved top; sleeveless wind proof ski gilet; pertex wind proof cycling cape; lined textile jacket; winter fleecy cycling Tights; lined textile trousers; waterproof over jacket and trousers; alt-berg waterproof boots; winter gloves; thick socks. Needless to say I was dry and toasty....except for my feet. So, I've just ordered some Keis heated insoles to, hopefully, give me toasty warm toes as well.

I joined the site back in March.
I've got a 2001 FZS 600 last march as a second bike to use over the winter, only started riding it on a regular basis last month and very impressed with it. Should have bought one years ago.
So hi all.
Great site by the way.

| Pitfalls of cheap chains |

I should have learnt this lesson the first time I changed a chain , first one lasted around 4000 miles before needing adjustment after nearly every ride. cost around £55 . The last (Just changed) was described as genuine factory replacement + sprockets ,Pain in the arse to fit as it was endless ! Seemed quite a good heavy chain ,but after only around 3000 miles it started needing adjustment, then recently i noticed a sort of rubbing sound as i was riding along.
Close inspection revealed red rusty side links. This I thought odd as I had always lubed the chains on both my bikes after nearly every ride. In the interim I lagged the chain with WD40 . (obviously not my usual lubricant) and re tried the bike , noise had gone, Back to base and re-lubed the chain with oil. next ride i came back with the chain almost hitting the rear forks. So this time ordered a known quality DID chain. during the process of taking of the old chain (using my usual angle grinder method) I levered on the ground link plate , Only to find that the rivet let go at the other side of the chain. This proves quite conclusively that the chain rivets were as soft as the proverbial shit !
On removing the chain completely , there was a mixture of seized and hanging links. totaly crap chain !
Odd why a chain should seize like this despite being regularly lubed.
My Thou is I think still on its original chain at around 29000 miles .never needs adjustment.
I have tried all sorts of chain lube over the years and think engine oil is as good as anything .

I've been having a problem posting , its been going on a few weeks now and its on all three of the comps I use
My one at work , my home comp and my lap top ,
If I reply to a post type it all out the view it in preveiw when I then go to post it , it wont go ! just sits there with the timer going round and round but nothing happens 5 mins later its still done nothing ?
it works fine if I dont go through the preveiw first !
I few I have forgot to copy first , and couldnt be bothered after !
I kknow the answers are going to be well dont preveiw then !
but any sensible ideas ?

Starter is starting to play up in the mornings so looks like it maybe needing attention soon.
Anyone done one of these? Any tips/gotchas etc
I don't think it's the motor - sounds like something jamming.
