  another maybe ignition swith problem
Posted by: tommyteeman - 01-09-13, 04:46 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

havent seen this before but .......noticed the lights stayed on behind the clocks now when the key is taken out. If you then put the side lights on (no key in the ignition here) it activates the starter relay and dash warning lights, as well as putting the lights on, and you can push the starter button and crank the motor over. SoI pulled the block connecter (one of two) conected to the ignition switch under the tank which seems to disconnect the side lights and dash lights and the bike then behaves normally without the side lights/dash lights and rear lamp of course.
so....ignition switch or maybe the light switch ? or could it be a relay at fault ?
When the ignition switch is in the off position the system should be dead yes ?
I'll carry on the head scratching here but cant get my multimeter till the morning so any things to check letme know
cheers

  Confessions of a Newbie Rider
Posted by: theglove1978 - 01-09-13, 12:15 PM - Forum: General - Replies (40)

Hi all.

Only 1 1/2 weeks since a passed my Mod 2 test, thought i'd share the trials and tribulations of my early biking experiences on the Fazer:

1)  Clunky gear changes.  1st to 2nd especially but has taken me about 150 miles of riding to start smoothing them out.  Mod 1 & 2 lessons do not teach effective gear changing.
2)  Changing down.  For reasons unbeknown, i coasted (clutch in) then went down the gears without engaging clutch.  Mate of mine told me engage clutch at every down shift - works a treat!  Again, Mod 1 & 2 lessons do not teach this.
3)  Cornering.  Still a little clumsy at times or slow but confidence slowly increasing.
4)  Speed!  I think i am going about 100mph then i look down at speedo and oh Foc, i'm only doing 30mph Smile .  Getting used to this now thankfully!  Have to say, haven't enjoyed early motorway experiences!
5)  Other bikers.  Great bunch of folk.  Not a word of complaint, all very friendly and always up for a chat!

NEW Fazer 1000 gen 1 owner, loving it!
Posted by: davey1985 - 01-09-13, 10:36 AM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (4)

Morning chaps,

Quick introduction of me, I'm (dangerous) Dave, 28, a joiner from west yorkshire. Just picked up a mint 2002 Fazer 1000 yesterday and very very happy with it. I had an R1 before but it wasn't usable year round and it annoyed me sat in the garage 9 months a year!

The Fazer has a Yamaha LC sticker kit on and has had a beautiful paintjob done by Easibike UK, a spares company in Glossop, Derbyshire. I bought the bike from the owner of Easibike, Etienne Shaw. Top bloke has done the bike serious credit!

I also have a Fazer 600 that i use for the daily commute. The bikes been Ivanised and wants for nothing!

I'd like to meet some of you guys face to face at some point as most biker mates have died away now so let me know if there's anything going on in or near yorkshire.

Cheers guys an gals!

  Assen Accomodation?
Posted by: Simon.Pieman - 01-09-13, 10:24 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

'Going to the BSB races in Assen later this month. Can anyone reccomend a cheap but nice guest house/hotel nearish the circuit and in a town with decent drinking holes? Ideally want to dump stuff at hotel, go and see races than ride back, shower and hit the town.
I loathe camping so that's not an option

  fzs 600 Insurance
Posted by: CharlieDee - 01-09-13, 09:13 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (19)

Morning Foccers,

Just had a nice surprise with the insurance... went on the comparison websites as you do and the best quote I could get was around the £120 mark and this was without declaring all my modifications. After declaring the quote then went right up to £180+ which I think is a little harsh!! So I thought I would try MCE custom direct... with everything declared and limited recovery £110 all in!!

Just wondering what sort of price you guys pay for modified/custom insurance on your 600's?

Worst bike you have ever riden?
Posted by: dBfazer600 - 01-09-13, 12:29 AM - Forum: General - Replies (49)

When, why and what was it you did or did not like.

Today
An offer to purchase as they thought it was my sort of bike (I ride a  :faz and need no other substitute)
1300 Honda Pan Europe

the most boring bike that I raised a leg to. Honestly 1300cc of mellowness that made me frown after the initial 3 mile run out. Its a good job I had my Bro's son with me on my  :faz that I mugged him for.

1300 Honda Pan Europe = No smiles

  Acceleration stutter after service
Posted by: dBfazer600 - 31-08-13, 10:54 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (95)

Today I have done the following:

New:

Air & Oil Filter
Spark plugs NGK CR8EIX 4218
Cleaned front breaks all is good
Rear break seized but free enough not to drag until I can strip it down and see to it properly (new pads fitted and works as expected)

Bike is stuttering on acceleration on overtakes and when ridden hard. Had to adjust tick over as it shot up to 2.250K after service. Bike runs smoother than in the past and sounds sweet.

This has me stumped and can only think it been electrical as its intermittent.

Any Ideas boys and girls.

  Longest Recreational Distance
Posted by: nick crisp - 31-08-13, 10:23 PM - Forum: General - Replies (68)

What's the longest distance anyone's done just for an enjoyable days riding? From Oxfordshire I'm considering 2 possibles.

1. Day ride to Snowdonia, with blatting about in the region before heading home. Approx 200 miles to Snowdonia (Beddgelert)
2. Day ride to Snake Pass, Peak District. Approx 150 miles one way, + blatting around.

Too much?
