Morning chaps
I noticed the other day that my exhaust has what I am assuming is a removable baffle in the exhaust.
It's simply held in place by a single allen bolt. The baffle itself is simply a steel tube about 150mm long and approximatley 30mm diameter (has a slight kink in to reduce the diameter in the middle).
I remember my old instructor telling me I should take it out because it'd sound better and release a bit more power, so I removed it last night (not ridden the bike in today).
Does the baffle affect the engines running at all? A little louder may be nice, but I don't want to make the engine run leaner or anything and risk damage (something I've read).
Any thoughts?

Hiya,
My Yamaha was not used for almost 2 weeks, then 2 days ago I've got the parts, replaced some and went for MOT. Everything was fine till today.
I've went back from a trip, it has no power and didn't rev on gear higher than 4k, if you open throttle more than 1/4 it's starts to splutter, but it splutters very gently, like it was planned or ECU programmed. You just need to give it less throttle and it does not splutter.
It has no power to go on hill higher than few %, also won't go faster than 50mph.
I can rev it without gear till 7k rpm, but the vibration and noise is very bad.
Since there is no magic there can be 2 issues, fuel or ignition, right?
I was trying to remove spark plug cables separately then start engine, but engine runs much worse even If I remove one of them (so I assume that it's not related with just 1 cylinder or 1 faulty spark plugs).
What you think I should check next?
I know that carb sync and valve clearance it's important, but I don't think that such a power drop would happen after 2 days. I will do it in a next few weeks.
I've 4 guesses:
a) Water in fuel (have issues with tank drain pipe, which is blocked right now to not leak), but I don't think that it would happen in a 2 days.
Motorcycle was running well after 2 weeks of resting, so 2 days are not so much?
b) Coil/coils?
c) Fuel pump
d) Is there ECU or something like that to check?
What's your guess and what's the way to check it? I've most of necessary tools and multimeter (to check voltage, resistance etc.)
Thanks guys

| Opening the hard shoulder on motorway.......... |

I was going back from a mini show in my classic mini a few weeks ago, and there was torrential rain on the motorway.
My mini is prone to cutting out in the wet (I know why so please dont go there !!) above Northampton it cut out, pulled on hard shoulder and a quick squirt of WD40 I was off again.
Continuing down the M way in this awful weather, it was dangerous to go above 50, there was a fair amount of traffic.
They then opened the hard shoulder to ease congestion so there's me gripping steering wheel hoping the mini doesn't cut out again.
The very thought of having to stop on the hard shoulder with a lorry baring down on me is unthinkable. yes, people say they have cameras so thus if someone breaks down they close the hard shoulder.
But surely no system will be quick enough to stop traffic in time........I think its mighty dangerous especially when its really wet out there, and vision is limited,
your views welcomed please..........

When I removed the link pipe from the exup collector box , there was the remains of some kind of gasket or sealant , does this have to be removed & replaced before refitting and if so what is the product called . Thanks in advance for advice given .

OMG!!!!
I know that this has been the topic of much discussion already over the years, but after deciding to service my EXUP valve again before winter sets in, I decided to get some parts prices for the various components.
I was only after a new spacer for the inner end of the valve itself, but got some prices for the bushes at both ends as well. Feast your eyes on this little lot from Yamaha................
Spacer (inner end of valve) = £11.20 PLUS VAT
Bush (inner end of valve / end plate / both the same) = £30.80 each PLUS VAT
End plate = £89.20 PLUS VAT
EXUP Valve itself = £282.32 PLUS VAT
I was only comforted (a little), when he told me that I guy recently asked for a price for a GSXR1000K3 fairing side panel and was quoted well over £500 for it!!!
Hope this doesn't push the prices of used EXUP componentry on this site to fellow Foccers??? :eek
