With the head gasket on my Peugeot dodgy, I'm tempted to cut and run: sell it as fast as possible, then replace it with a bike. This depends on cooperative parents on Friday though!!
Just to get a feel for the waters (as it were), has anyone got / know of a reliable, cheap 250cc+ bike up for sale?

So, when travelling up and down the canal system some locks have signs on saying 'please leave 1 lower paddle open' (the paddles are what let's water in/out the lock and cut)
I always wondered why, but not questioning did as sign asked.
So I get home tonight, step onto me house and nearly stumble over the other side, it's proper squiffy leaning to the port (that's the left, get me with the terminology!)
Have a look, try pushing the boat and it's grounded!
Initial worry was I've taken on water and half sunk, but I have a look at the water level and it's a good foot lower than normal!
So I grab my windlass (that's the name of the lock key for the paddles, again- terminology!)
And go up to the next lock, all paddles are closed so I open it all up to fill up my bit of cut and get me house floating again.
I'm now waiting for my curry to cook in the oven!

I've just spent a fruitless evening under the hood of the Peugeot. The car seems to be trying to overheat, when I stop now after a drive, there's a loud hissing from the front of the engine, and inspection shows it to be coolant making a break for freedom at high pressure from the piepes and the cap of the coolant reservoir. I thought it might be the thermostat causing this build up of pressure. So I get it out, covering myself, the engine bay and the road in coolant in the process. Finally get it sealed back up, put close to 4L of coolant ot replace the stuff that pissed all over the floor, checked the thermostat - the fucker works! So I'm stuck with a problem that no-one seems to know the reason for, not enough money (or motivation, frankly) to put it into the very expensive garage near work, buit living in mortal fear the fucker's going to do a ZX4 on me and blow up.
I fucking hate this car. :wall :2guns :grumble
On the plus side, big props to Dead Eye who endured 20 minutes of my grumbling incompetence. Top Foccer. :thumbup

When the fuel tank is full the needle shows full and is stable, when it starts to drop it waves around quite alot. Is this most likely a dodgey sender unit?

The speedo on my newly acquired FZS600 isn't working so I suspected the sender until I noticed that the trip counter is working. Does this suggest the problem lies with the speedo itself?

I've just stripped and cleaned my front brakes whilst my wheels were out having new tyres fitted and I seem to have a steel front brake pad shim missing, has anybody got one kicking about that they don't need or is it a trip to the dealers.
Cheers
Andy
