Head stock bearings!
Posted by: crussell92 - 24-08-22, 09:26 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

Hi guys, bit of help needed please, gen 1 fazer.

There was play in the forks which started last year on tour. No problem thought I, headstock bearings could do with replacement. Just replaced them but still there is play. Anyone that's done this before got ideas what it could be?

Tried messing with the bearing preload, tighter or looser it makes no difference. Pinch bolts all tight. It makes me think it could be something else but for the life of me can't see anything else it can be!

Still, at least it's not booked in for mot tomorrow morning ?

Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated.

  CORTECH GX-AIR JACKET
Posted by: Falcon 269 - 24-08-22, 08:12 AM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

The best jacket I've ever worn on a bike for summer riding. Smile

Vented ballistic mesh, leather reinforcement to all contact areas ... not that this has ever been tested, you understand. Wink

Mine is one of the earlier type shown here:  https://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/un...acket.html

Cortech continued to make them with minor style changes over the years and it was ever-popular in the USA.

Chest 42", silver-grey/black.  Still in very good condition and comes with both liners; one is wind/waterproof, the other is purely thermal.

Happy to let it go for £20 plus postage (estimate £12 - £15) just to know that it's still one the road, even if I'm not. Smile

PM for more details.

Cheers!

Mike

front fork adjuster screw and 190 tyres
Posted by: bazza - 23-08-22, 08:09 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (10)

picked my fzs1000 up weekend and now having to move across the forum from fzs600 to thou. 2 issues i've discovered, the left hand lower fork adjusting screw is proper mullard and seized, so has anyone tried drilling these out and what lies behind, as in will the fork oil pour out, currently soaking it every day with oil but hold out no hope. Other issue is handling not to my liking, have played with rear shock and bottom adjuster was 43 clicks out?? , so have it currently set on 10 out which improved things but still not right for me, so on checking it has rear tyre of 190, looking at specs its meant to be 180, also they are metzeler sportac. so, any ideas why someone would change to 190, as that may account for it seemingly dropping into corners. also are these tyres any good as i've never really been a fan of metzelers, will be used all year round , so whats more important to me is a good rain tyre

  TPS woes…..
Posted by: shadywiki - 22-08-22, 04:50 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

TPS sensor woes….

So, my taco was giving me the 0-3000 rpm TPS sensor issue reading. I purchased a jarg one from Korea, it didn’t seem to work. I then bit the bullet and have purchased an official brand new one from yambits (£100 quid).

I have followed the instruction to put the bike into the mode for TPS calibration/adjustment but am still only getting the 0-3000 reading as if it’s not connected or it’s faulty.

The bike is a 2000 FZS600 and am now wondering what the likelihood is the instrument cluster is goosed.

Does anyone know where the connection from the sensor goes? Is it connected via the wiring loom to the instrument cluster or does it connect to somewhere else on the engine?

This is my first bike and am going through learning to maintain and fix it myself, but this is tipping me over the edge!

Any advice welcome! Thanks in advance.

FZS1000 parts - Screen, bar ends, bungs etc
Posted by: kebab19 - 22-08-22, 01:59 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (4)

Sadly the big ol' girl has finally gone :'( , so I've a few spare parts for sale which have been acquired over the years. Pictures to follow.

Accessories:

 • Memphis shades screen - This excellent screen is designed primarily for cruiser bikes and bolts to the handlebars. There's a long review of these screens on FZS1000 here.    This was the only screen I ever fitted to the Fazer which allowed me to do 300 miles in a day in comfort, with minimal wind noise, buffeting & turbulence. There are a small few marks on the screen, but no deep scratches. As a reference I am about 5'8" tall. £85 plus post.
 • R&G bar ends - silver / black, internal expander type that suits renthal bars, no damage £12 inc post.
 • Oberon Bar ends - no longer made, these rare stainless bar ends are the expander type that suits renthal bars, one small blemish £12 inc post.
 • R&G Crash bungs - There were a used set bought off ebay, both bobbins have wear/ damage. £10 inc post.
Engine & Electronics:
 • Left-hand switchgear - suits earliest 2001 + 2002 models with their front headlight setup, great condition £10 inc post.
More to follow as I plumb the depths of the garage.... [cleaned up post - bkd]
