Am I being a Numptie
Posted by: Timbo - 07-11-16, 11:53 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (12)

Hi all

Am I imagining it or should the tacho flick to the red line when you first switch the ignition on???

I had a 7K rpm fault show up on Friday (just once), the EXUP is all lubed and checked but I am starting to think I have a duff servo motor. Before I go charging off now that route I would like  a reality check.

The bike actually runs alright but I do get a crackling noise from the servo and it does'nt seem to move  at all when I switch the ignition on.

Or am I just getting old and confused :\ !!?

  Rear disc bolts
Posted by: pintlicker - 07-11-16, 10:37 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (8)

Had a mare of a time last night trying to get my rear disc bolts off  :'( .  I thought they'd be as easy as the fronts, all they seemed to take was a bit of heat and an impact driver and they were off in jig time.  The rears in comparison are ridiculous!  I've first tried using heat and an impact driver and after much whacking of the driver managed to get a small bit of movement on one of them.  Then used a small breaker bar and tried to tease it round and the fucker snapped.  That shouldn't be too much of an issue as I've got access to a drill press and should be able to drill it out.  I started on the others and with a bit of heat managed to get one of them to move a bit but the last thing I want is snap it off as well, it wasn't exactly moving freely.

Anyone got any tips for removing these buggers, at the moment my only plan is to use heat and go slowly?I've given them a soak overnight in plusgas to see if that helps but i think its the blue loctite that must be causing the issues here so don't think it will help much.  Stuart

ok, lemme think..1996 in red..new fork springs/seals and fluids (stock weight)Rebuilt MTC rear shock from much lower mileage bike with 4mm pre load shims genuine 30 thousand miles. was in storage for about ten years...new bt021front and back..just had new plugs/ oil/ 4 x oe quality Japanese carb kits fitted. new battery six months ago. best-quality-I-could-find reg/rec ( metal finned heat sink type) full tool kit (including all important chain adjuster c spanner and spark plug socket to get in behind radiator for front plugs) ..swinging arm stripped out new bearings and cleaned/ greased where wheel sits in it so adjusts smoothly. .exhaust pipe work removed, checked (sound) cleaned and painted in wurth high temp paint. not too loud ART race can and undamaged stocker...25mm bar raisers fitted. Givi wingrack two and  46 litre box engine looks manky under bodywork, but mechanically very very good. bodywork looks ok but if you look close almost every panel has a scratch or small crack, tank has couple of hard to notice dents. think that's it...1100 without rack and luggage 1200 with rack and topbox ( holds two helmets) :-)I'll get some photos up later

  Problems at high speeds.
Posted by: mr self destruct - 06-11-16, 03:19 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (105)

When I'm travelling at high (i.e. unrestricted autobahn) speeds, my 600 develops a real reluctance to accelerate.
I'll be doing over 7k rpm and when I open it up it just dies for about a second before picking up again, like I've actually switched the ignition off, which makes overtaking dangerous.
I've had the tank up and checked the fuel lines are in good condition, not kinked or blocked. I've changed the plugs and had it serviced but it makes no difference. The battery is in good condition, TPS is fine (jumping to 5k when tested) so I reckon the next stage is to check the carbs.
I've not checked the rubbers or stripped the carbs down because in my experience with car carbs, any leaking inlet rubbers or sticking needles affect the tickover/low revs more than high revs. Is that wrong though?
The next thing I was going to do is balance the carbs, but before I start I just wanted to know if there's anything obvious I've missed.
What do you  think?

  First ride
Posted by: ogri48 - 06-11-16, 01:48 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (21)

Ok so picked up my 04 gen one with 30k up yesterday, had a brief test ride before I put it in the van and it's lively enough, taxed and insured so first proper ride now through the Wye valley, about forty miles round trip. Did notice yesterday ex ups a little rattly and clutch bites a bit high and quick, hopefully nuffin problematic, gonna strip the exup out later in the week, but service record shows it was last stripped out, cleaned and greased  3,000 miles ago in 2014. Just to refresh my memory, should it check itself out when you turn the ignition on? Feels good to have a fazer thou again, even before I've ridden it... Smile

Now forgive this question but never had a Fazer before my last bike was a Blackbird, but do you need to remove the tank on the fazer to get the plugs out to check them

and /or change the air filter

still waiting for my Haynes to come in the post

Thanks guys

Paul
