New to the forum but owned fazers for about a year or so now. I live in Guernsey and generally it's a stop start island with a max speed of 35mph (ahem).
No matter how i ride my fazers (I own two), and even if i leave them running on the drive way, neither will ever turn the fan on. One has a digital cluster and the other has the standard cluster, both never really indicate either is that hot either (max 95c on digital), but I would have expected to hear it at some point.
So I live on a little rock and I own two fazers and some other pieces of rubbish i wont show here, names Sam.
Out of my fazers, ones fairly standard (Red), and one is street fighted (yellow & black)...
Generally using the red bike, both were "salvages" so a ways to go!
The red fazer has basically had... new stanchions and seals, brakes restored from pads that had so much rust you could barely tell it was a caliper, kept as standard as possible with a Scorpion end can (currently borrowing from fazer#2). It's also had carbs rebuilt as it was sat for a while, so new gaskets etc, headers were restored (filled, sanded, painted), new hoses and a full service. This is my daily bike.
Bought this one as a "barely running but runner" and it's going well.
Yellow / black fazer as seen in the other picture has had a fair bit more work done to it, and more since that last picture. This was the first fazer i bought, came in parts, built it back and there are some pictures along the way somewhere.
Got to the point with this one where i was thinking hmmm what else can I do, so i think this bikes going to get a full strip and have the frame sprayed along with panels etc.
However, looking for a few parts for this as some of the parts were donated to fazer#1 as i created a "best of both" and thats partly my reason for finding you guys here! I'll use the appropriate forums for that though..
Need some views/advice please:
My Gen 2 has done 48,000 miles commuting and the clutch cable was quite stretched, so bought what was described as a super slippery one from Wemoto. Eventually changed the cable after being a bit ditzy (think I was tired – see earlier post) and although the new cable was a lot smoother out of the bike compared to the new one the actuation on the lever is still reasonably stiff compared to say my mates ’04 R1.
Cable route seems ok etc as per the old one that came out.
Any ideas or solutions please – I tend to ride using 2 fingers for each lever and also slip the clutch as I’m also used to riding 2 strokes off road (ok these have hydraulic clutches)...
A bit lower force would be good to have and my finger joints might last a bit longer!
So it seems to be a thing! After hearing a noise, I removed the front sprocket cover to find the nut just sitting loose on the end of the shaft, not a hint of thread left in it. I bought a new nut from the dealers and came on here looking for a torque figure for it, turns out its a common fault and that most people, including Yamaha, know about an upgrade to a wider nut.
So how come my dealer in Carshalton sold me a 9mm nut and claim no knowledge of any other part, the dealer in Twickenham also claims ignorance, and even Yamaha UK say there is only one part number suitable for a my bike and that's for the 9mm nut I've been given?
Despite all the related threads on here I couldn't find a part number mentioned for the 12mm nut, is it a genuine Yamaha part?
