Seat discomfort - otley - 19-06-17

Hello there,

I've just come back from a long run up to the lakes on my 2009 Gen 2 FZ1S and gosh, my bottom is sore! All those poorly surfaced B and unclassified roads. I need a better padded, more comfortable seat. I hear mention of a factory Yamaha 'Comfort seat', but cannot find any for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get one, or are there other options?

Thanks in anticipation, he said, somewhat stiffly.

Your best and possibly  (knowing yamaha) cheaper option is to get the seat recovered with the addition of either a gel or memory foam pad put in.
The price varies depending on who you go to and how you want the seat to look but generally for less than £100 you can have a lovely custom seat that's a lot more comfortable and looks a lot better too.
Just have a Google for someone in your local area

I had the comfort seat from yamaha on my gen 2 and I thought it was worse to be honest.loved my gen 2 but that was one of the reasons I went to a gen 1.

Swap it for a Gen 1  :rollin

Padded cycling shorts - £10 ish. A whole lot cheaper than a new seat  Wink

Thanks for the help - there's a seat upholsterer in Bradford but you have to leave your seat with them to be reworked, so I went with the lower risk option of £10 padded shorts from Amazon. Worth a try, I thought.

Could be a cheap solution...let us know the outcome...........

Haven't solved my gen1 yet....420 miles yesterday from Cornwall to Yorkshire is a good reminder to get something done. May try the cycling shorts, otherwise it's Tony Archer or Digger???

I have tried Airhawks, gel pads etc and the only thing that really makes a difference for me is padded cycle shorts. Cheap too from your nearest Sports Direct Smile

Re: Seat discomfort - fz1a - 29-08-17

Had the same seating issue when I bought my 2008 FZ1A back in 2009 (which I still have)
Solution - picked up a Corbin seat on ebay - best buy ever - no more sore ass  Smile

Re: Seat discomfort - robbo - 29-08-17

Bought a pair of Moto Skiveez, which are cycling type shorts but made for motorcycling, coming in 3 styles, adventure, sport and cruiser. Went for the adventure and used them on a weekend trip to Cornwall a few weeks back and was well pleased. Having a couple of bikes, these have been an ideal solution. They're not cheap, but definitely work.

Sore bum on long rides, adjust the suspension to suit - reduce preload a little so the bike squats more with the weight of yer fatass and reduce both compression and rebound damping a couple of clicks.......oh, it's a Fazer, if it's stock you don't have effective suspension anyway  :rolleyes

Re: Seat discomfort - steve 10562cc - 30-08-17

I don't have a problem with the seat on my gen2 can't ride much more than a 100miles between fuel stops any way, so never been on it long enough to find out with stretching my legs.
