Givi Pannier/Top Box rack for FZS600
Posted by: kevinmcglynn - 24-07-18, 12:33 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (3)

About 4 years ago I put up this post http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,13217.0.html documenting how I went about fitting a pannier rack for the newer FZ6s to my FZS600 as it was no longer possible to buy one. Well now unfortunately circumstances have changed and the time has come to sell the bike, but before doing so I thought I would see if anyone would be interested in buying the top box/pannier racks off the bike for their FZS600. I know there was a fair bit of interest in this post at the time, and I can't imagine Givi racks for FZS600s have gotten any easier to find in the last few years. I'd prefer to sell the racks with the panniers and top box included, but I will also consider selling them separately. I'm based in Northern Ireland, but I will get them posted anywhere in the UK/Ireland as required.

Also if anyone is interested in buying the bike complete with the racks and boxes included that would be even better. It's 2003, 21,000 miles, full years MOT.

  SORTED - Wanted FZ6-SA 2006 Engine 5VX-00
Posted by: Grahamm - 24-07-18, 10:16 AM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

Since I've probably buggered the engine on mine and workshops have recommended that it would ultimately be cheaper and better to replace it than get someone to spend many hours try to fix the current one, I'm looking for a second hand one.
The bike is a 2006 FZ6 Fazer SA (ABS) and the engine block has 5VX-00 on it.
I'd like one with low mileage and which has been serviced properly (unlike mine, my own fault Sad ) and without the exhaust studs etc rusted to buggery...!
If anyone has one, please let me know, thanks.

  Gen. 2 wheels in a Gen.1?
Posted by: ProdigalSon - 24-07-18, 10:00 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (18)

Sorry if this has been asked before I did try doing a search but couldn't find the answer, are the 5 spoke wheels from the Gen. 2 a direct fit on a Gen.1 bike or do they need modifying in any way, poncy I know but I prefer the look of the 5 spoke wheels.
Thanks for any help. Smile

Fitting an Ivans kit, any advice re do's and don'ts?
Posted by: ProdigalSon - 23-07-18, 10:04 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (12)

Well due to my shifts and not living anywhere near where Falcon269 was doing fittings back in the day when he was doing them I've decided it's do or die and do it myself. So today I ordered a Full Monty kit from SG Racing and I shall tackle the job when they arrive.
I was just wondering if anyone had any pearls of wisdom as to things to do and not to do, I'm assuming the bike hasn't already been done by the previous owner. The AIS is still in place and I have a blanking kit for that as well so may do that whilst I have the tank off. Not because I removing it makes any difference to performance I gather the main reason is ease of access to the spark plugs?
Any advice, apart from foc off , is greatly appreciated. Smile

  Logbook Query
Posted by: Northern Biker - 23-07-18, 08:21 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Hi guys,
I'm looking into buying an FZS600 that has been off road a while.
I asked for the reg so I could run a check on it and it's coming back as a different colour, it is a 1999 bike but shows as registered in 2012.
In the special notes at the bottom it says 'Was registered and/or used elsewhere in the UK. Declared manufactured in 1999'.
Date of registration is 1999, date of first registration in the UK is 2012, does this make it an import?
I was thinking maybe Guernsey or Jersey or possibly France?
It's also on the V5 that the body type is Scooter Combination, and taxation class is Bicycle, can someone confirm what these should be for an FZS600? I thought they were Sports Tourer or something like that?
Just want to clear these things up before I commit to anything and to ask if anyone knows if the details are wrong can it be easily changed?
Thanks in advance.

  Show me your exhausts!
Posted by: Triggergee - 23-07-18, 06:22 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (19)

Trying to do my new gen1 up to be all sexy and get rid of the abominable which is the stock muffler but I'm really struggling to decide on what to put on it. After reading through some previous threads the general opinion is unless your going for a full race header/can set up with fuel mapping etc essentially the end can is just a tube of steel the makes a nice noise and looks good. I'm hoping to get some inspiration or at least know what not to put on my bike through some of your pics! Really trying to make this bike nice but cosmetic or arty choices are not my strong point. I'm pretty good at fixing and braking things but making them pretty is not my forte lol. The pic is the bike I'm trying to prettify and the exhaust I think might do the job

  Something broke...
Posted by: Grahamm - 23-07-18, 12:42 PM - Forum: General - Replies (40)

Yesterday I was in Devon, having a nice surfing and biking break.

I'd been out for a great ride down the A39, then back up the B3254, when I tried to start an overtake and the bike just wasn't giving me any power Sad
I backed off and the engine was still running but when I opened the throttle, it just wouldn't pull.
I stopped, switched off and back on again and when I tried to start it, there was a rattling or clattering sound, so I immediately switched off again and called the RAC.
I had major hassles getting back to the campsite and then getting the bike back to Portsmouth, and then found that Vernon's Motorcycles is closing down in September and isn't taking any more work and Downeys and Bike Moto aren't open until Tuesday Sad
The guy I spoke to at Vernons said (just a guess) that maybe a valve had dropped, but also said that it if it was something more serious, might actually be cheaper to simply buy a replacement engine, rather than pay for the workshop time to strip the current engine and rebuild it!

Still, at least Kudos to the other two bikers who pulled over when they saw me broken down, thanks to them, whoever they are :thumbup
One other thing, I'd checked the oil a few weeks ago (it was around the top of the scale) and there wasn't any dripping out in my shed or when the bike was standing, but when I checked it after the engine had cooled off a bit, it was right down the bottom of the scale. It was on a bit of a slope and canted over, but I don't think that should have made that much of a difference to the level.

  Test rides

Took the old bike for it’s MOT today.  Passed nae bother.

While it was being MOTed I wandered doon tae the Honda dealer a few streets away.  The new CB1000R looks smashing.  They had a demo model too.

So after my MOT, I thought I’d have a sniff around another dealer or two.  Wandered into the new Triumph dealer just outside Glasgow (no signs of austerity here - focs sake!).  I’m taken with the street triple rs.  I mean it looks good, it’s seriously light, I mean seriously light, the riding position seems easy going enough and the figures suggest it should have plenty of poke.  One wonders if this bike is trying to make litre and litre plus nakeds redundant.

Anyway sales person came over.  Next thing I know he’s offering me a test ride, but he needed my NI number as well as my license apparently – so was no go today.  Seeing as I almost ended up on a test ride I thought I’d ask about the insurance position.  He said we check your license, if it’s valid and you’ve been riding over a year, you got a valid NI number, then off you go insured by us.  OK says I, what about the excess – noting this information wasn’t automatically offered – 2 grand he says.  2 foccing grand! Foc me.

So just wondering – is that typical.  What’s the going rate?

Anyway bikes I’m drooling over, and in order of preference;
CB1000R
Street Triple RS  (though comes with silly track day tyres)
MT10
