  Spark plug drain holes
Posted by: Buzz - 19-12-18, 02:49 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (23)

Hey all,

My '03 lives outside on the side stand meaning plugs 3 and 4 are always getting a soaking.  I had a lumpy start today, checked and the plugs were almost submerged in water, I stuck a wire up the drain hole in the fins and it seemed to go dead straight as far as the plug...but still no water was draining out.

1) What's the best way of clearing the drain holes, it looks like loads of grit and mud is also in there....i'll probably have to get a hose on it.
2) How does plug 3 connect to the drain hole in the fins, is there a hole from plug 3 to plug 4 or does the drain hole loop round to plug 3?

Cheers..Buzz

  ...and yet another new bloke...
Posted by: mw2018 - 19-12-18, 12:18 AM - Forum: Introduction - No Replies

somehow i struggled to register and log in a few months ago, gave up on it for a bit, tried again tonight with a new password and bingo! i'm here.
i'm sort of middle aged [ :rolleyes ], live in cheshire, had lots of big bikes, starting with a GS750 in 1980, been through lots of race reps, sold my last gsxr1000 in the summer as the way i was riding, it was going to end in tears. always liked big fazers, and found an 08 FZ1 at a bike shop back in june for sensible money [it's up on miles], and had a great summer on it. exactly what i expected from it and it has done the trick. it's so comfy, goes like stink, sounds good even bog standard and i find i ride quite a bit more sensibly. what don't i like? the riders seat makes me slide forward, which is a bit of a nut crusher, but then sitting back is a bit hard on the bum bones. the ignition switch on mine is a bit awkward to use - wear and tear i guess, and i only have 1 key. it's mich PR4s and these work well. looking forward to 2019, going to the NW200 and all the usual stuff.so there you go, that's me. Smile

A while back it was mentioned on here for looking inside a tank and I thought at the time it would be a very useful bit of kit but I did not have a use but now I do so looking for some advice as to a cheap one that can connect to a android phone. Its first job will be to inspect behind/inside a stud and plasterboard wall before I drill some new holes to fit a towel rad in-place of a normal rad.

  Clutch
Posted by: davep63 - 17-12-18, 05:30 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (11)

I decided to do a complete clutch replacement on my 2003 Fox eye Fazer. Friction plates Steel plates and 10% unrated springs. Everything came apart nice and easy and the new plates and friction plates all back in the basket. I put the cover plate back on and started to wing the bolts for the springs back in diagonally. Then disaster.... One of the mounting posts on the inner basket snapped completely off. Sid i miss something or have i done anything wrong????

Always worth checking your brake pads on a new purchase

Pad material has come away from back plate
Would explain the sticking rear caliper
Outside piston free inside one appears seized
New seals at least ,that's if I can get the pistons out

Finally Triumph launch a bike in their retro series that I might actually like to own and ride.1200cc, 96hp and 80lbs ft, should be pretty punchy.17 inch wheels, a low seat hight and just under 200kg, so should be easy chuck aroond.
No doubt will sound great on open pipes.
Dunno what the gaitors are aboot though.
