Posted by: solorider - 13-11-11, 11:15 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (4)

looking on ebay i found this kit for the R1 from the states http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TPO-Yamaha-R1-...35b25de197 it says there is no need for any locking screws,no tapping, the plugs are self locking and the kit comes with the airbox blanking plugs as well, question is any ideas how this kit is self locking, looks like a cheap way to buy a kit

  After Market Exhaust/EXUP valve
Posted by: FazerFZ1NBlack - 13-11-11, 10:08 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - No Replies

A little advice please.  Smile

I have a 2009 model FZ1N and have bought a spotless Micron carbon can for it for a lot less than a new branded one.  Looking at the exhaust as is I have noticed a 'unit' on the pipe 6 inches or so from the back of the standard can; (hides face in shame) is this the exup valve and if not what is it??!  :rolleyes  There are 2 narrow pipes coming from it heading north and towards the engine.

How do I go about fitting the 'new' can (which was from a FZ1)?  Thanks for any advice and education you can give me!

** Well not one person seems to know; are the 35 who read this message all running standard cans??!  FYI it does appear to be the EXUP valve according to a mechanic I spoke to.

  That's my girl!

Had a call from my 16 year old daughter at 2.30 on Wednesday to tell me she'd come off her ped. A couple came out of their house to help her, took her and the bike in, cup of hot chocolate later and she told them she had a test at college and needed to get there. The lady took her in to college, she sat the test, got the bus home.....then called me!

Thankfully she wasn't hurt but was very worried I'd be cross. As you can imagine, the overwhelming emotion on my part was great relief. Turns out she'd gone into a corner a bit fast, saw the car and braked while she was already lent over to keep on her side of the road. Road was wet and a service the previous day ment the brakes were a bit fierce. She parted company with the bike which then hit the on coming car. There was very little damage to her ped as the top box rack was what hit the car. Unfortunately, it hit a Merc and damaged the wing, wheel and door.

She's called the insurance company, sourced the parts and spent all day repairing it, took flowers to the lady she hit and the one who helped her and booked extra shifts at work to pay for it.

What a star Smile

  What a #osser!

Finally got bike back together. She started, sounded a bit rough. I thought must need a bit of a run....... Dont mistake fuel problem for timing problem I said to myself but carried on! Only later when oil was coming out of the exhaust drain hole did I think somethings not right. Ah well, hole in no 4 piston, start again. Note to self- double double check timing....

  Gear shifter lever mod
Posted by: karlo - 13-11-11, 06:55 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

Just want to check this lever is right before I proceed as the throw on the lever is different to the original

both levers compared

Lever in foreground is the (2010) R1 lever, background is the original fazer lever, when the R1 lever is fitted the linkage rod sits against the corner of the frame.

So does this look like everyone else's before any frame/rod modification?

  BMW Diagnostics
Posted by: seangee - 13-11-11, 06:17 PM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

About a year ago the airbag on SWMBOs Z4 came on. Took it to the garage who got his mate to hook up a diagnostic computer and said it was a false alarm but his software couldn't reset it. Not to worry because its not an MOT failure.

And now from next year it is. Google says this happens often, and once the error is triggered you can only turn the light off by doing a manual reset. Drove around to all the local garages. Several could read the error and confirmed that they could see the code, and the system reported that the error no longer existed. Disconnecting battery overnight didn't clear. Found the tools on ebay, but... For models up to 03 they cost around 20 notes. From 04 onwards they are over 200. Its an 04 and thats a lot for a toll that only does that one thing.

Quick call to the stealer and it will cost £100 for the diagnostic and £20 to reset if there really was no problem. Well can't you just reset it! Sorry sir that won't be safe. Back on ebay and found a diagnostic cable for under 30 quid. It included a bunch of software for evaluation and education purposes only. (Very clear that you are only paying for the cable).

Loads of software, including 2 virtual machines of official BMW tools. PITA to install but the instructions were excellent. You don't actually need most of it (but it is cool  :rolleyes ).

Hooked laptop up to car - a couple of mouse clicks later and the light is off. Best 30 quid I ever spent.

BTW - BMW official software confirmed "ERROR CODE HAS BEEN TRIGGERED BUT ERROR CONDITION DOES NOT CURRENTLY EXIST"
WTF?!? - why doesn't it then turn its own bloody light off?

New MOT regs mean I should either buy shares in a stealership or set myself up as an indie light turner offer as this apparently happens on around 40% of beamers.

where to start

I am 33 in 2 days, I live in leeds with my wife of 8 years and the dog of 8 years no they did  not come as a groupe deal.
I started riding 26 years ago on the beach at the caravan, and my parents bought me my first bike for the road @16. I passed my bike test in 2006 and started my biking off proper on a 1986 FJ1200, blody thing broke down every other week, so I moved on to A BMW R65 and then a GS500 but found myself drawn back to the FJ1200 witch I had for 18months or so but knee problems meen I cand take the waight of the FJ any more so she had to go and make way for a smaller lighter bike, so now I am looking a 1 of 2  fazer 600's ! a 1999 in red and the other a 2001 in gold

  Insomnia
Posted by: mickdel - 13-11-11, 05:17 AM - Forum: General - Replies (14)

Insomnia is a right bastard.  I've tried stilnocht and other hypnotics, but they're no use.  Can anyone recommend a sleeping tab that will knock me out for a few hours?  I used to get mogadon, but it's not available now.
