  Have we any plumbers?
Posted by: dickturpin - 04-12-11, 10:49 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Need to help my folks out who live an hour away and have just reported to me a very small leek (more of a weep) from a copper pipe in their loft. Anyone recommend a decent diy product to have with me when I go?....tape....epoxy.....jubillee clips???

  PC3 maps for FZ1
Posted by: Bracechenko - 04-12-11, 09:53 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

My FZ1 already had a Power commander 3 USB fitted and the guy I bought it from has a pre-loaded map installed.

Well, I fancy a play about and wondered if there are any good maps that you peeps have? I've not uploaded one to the bike before but it seems easy enough....I have the lead and the software etc.

My bike has crippling fuel economy and I guess that's mostly due to it being a much bigger bike than my trusty FZS600 but I also suspect the mapping. At the VERY best, I get 120 miles on motorway riding from a full tank to the reserve flashing and I reckon it can do better.

I don't want an all economy map as that's not what I use this bike for. Ideally I want a map that doesn't sap the power but offers the best throttle response possible....not sure if the PC3 can affect throttle response or if that's just inherent to the bike though??

Any advice/help/suggestions welcome. It has a full Mivv stubby system fitted & Ivans FCE as extras that may need to be considered  Big Grin

  K&N oil
Posted by: pointer2null - 04-12-11, 11:06 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

Just seen the thread about K&N filters - reminded me that I've got one in the garage, but it needs cleaning and re-oiling.

K&N want a zillion quid for the kit so not keen on buying it. Cleaning is easy - washing up liquid and warm water (even says so in the K&N instructions). But why about re-oiling. Any alternatives to their oil?

  A fun ride...
Posted by: Grahamm - 04-12-11, 01:22 AM - Forum: General - Replies (79)

I had another IAM Observed Ride today and ended up following a Senior IAM Observer down the A272 and the Morestead Road at speeds, if not in excess of, certainly approaching R17[sup]1[/sup]...  [img alt=:icon_biggrin:]http://cafedillo.org.uk/forums/Smileys/default/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

[sup]1[/sup] R is a velocity measure, defined as a reasonable speed of travel that is consistent with health, mental wellbeing and not being more than say five minutes late. It is therefore clearly an almost infinitely variable figure according to circumstances, since the first two factors vary not only with speed taken as an absolute, but also with awareness of the third factor. Unless handled with tranquility this equation can result in considerable stress, ulcers and even death.
R17 is not a fixed velocity, but it is clearly far too fast.

I like to look at the various reviews on the MCN site. All I can see at the mo is the latest news and sales stuff the links to the individual bike reviews thingy at the top seems to have disappeared. Am I missing it and they've moved it or has it gone completely?

Please tell me its moved and not been withdrawn!

RAN OUT OF PETROL MULTI GAUGE INCORRECT!!
Posted by: cable tie - 03-12-11, 10:33 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

Ayup chaps, yeah i ran out of petrol lucky for me it was as i was pushing it out my shed for its weekly clean even tho its not moved a wheel  :b  .  Nah than the multi gauge stated i had 2-litres left! when it took its last breath and died, so i set about seeing what the prob was and removed tank and sender it seemed the contacts on the sender was not sitting at its lowest point due to the plastic shroud it must have never been right so i fixed that and sender gauge now reads 0 for empty, now when i fitted everything back and filled tank i noted i had to put 2.5 litres in before it even started to read on the gauge, so i took sender out and bent sender to take into account the reading, when i installed the tank again i put a 1-litre in and nothing and so put 250ml in and the gauge registered this, i than ran bike up until gauge read 0 took tank off and drained fuel to see how much left in 1-litre was what came out, i also noted the sender is within mm from touching the tank base.

So my question does the tank hold fuel due to the shape that does not register on the fuel gauge.

  New navy
Posted by: BBROWN1664 - 03-12-11, 10:01 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

The Royal Navy is proud of its new fleet of Type 45 destroyers. Having initially named the first two ships HMS Daring and HMS Dauntless, the Naming Committee has, after intensive pressure from Brussels, renamed them HMS Cautious and HMS Prudence. The next five ships are to be named HMS Empathy, HMS Circumspect, HMS Nervous, HMS Timorous and HMS Apologist.  Costing £850 million each, they meet the needs of the 21st century and comply with the very latest employment, equality, health & safety and human rights laws.  The new user-friendly crow's nest comes equipped with wheelchair access. Live ammunition has been replaced with paintballs to reduce the risk of anyone getting hurt and to cut down on the number of compensation claims. Stress counsellors and lawyers will be on duty 24hrs a day and each ship will have its on-board industrial tribunal.  The crew will be 50/50 men and women, and balanced in accordance with the latest Home Office directives on race, gender, sexuality and disability. Sailors will only have to work a maximum of 37hrs per week in line with Brussels Health & Safety rules, even in wartime! All the vessels will come equipped with a maternity ward and nursery, situated on the same deck as the Gay Disco.  Tobacco will be banned throughout the ship, but cannabis will be allowed in the wardroom and messes. The Royal Navy is eager to shed its traditional reputation for; "Rum, sodomy and the lash"; so out has gone the occasional rum ration which is to be replaced by sparkling water. Although sodomy remains, it has now been extended to include all ratings under 18. The lash will still be available but only on request. Condoms can be obtained from the Bosun in a variety of flavours, except Capstan Full Strength.  Saluting officers has been abolished because it is deemed elitist and is to be replaced by the more informal, "Hello Sailor". All information on notices boards will be printed in 37 different languages and Braille. Crew members will now no longer be required to ask permission to grow beards or moustaches - this applies equally to women crew members.  The MoD is working on a new "non-specific" flag because the White Ensign is considered to be offensive to minorities. The Union Flag had already been discarded.  The newly re-named HMS Cautious is due to be commissioned soon in a ceremony conducted by Captain Hook from the Finsbury Park Mosque who will break a petrol bomb over the hull. She will gently slide into the water as the Royal Marines Band plays "In the Navy" by the Village People. Her first deployment will be to escort boat loads of illegal immigrants across the channel to ports on England's south coast.  The Prime Minister said, "While these ships reflect the very latest in modern thinking, they are also capable of being up-graded to comply with any new legislation coming out of Brussels."  His final words were, "Britannia waives the rules!"
