  More possible Exup woes
Posted by: 1967fazer - 13-08-12, 03:07 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (10)

Just a quickie, this subject has probably been done plenty of times before but, after fixing the gearbox and putting the engine back in my gen1, every thing seems ok apart from the fact that it won't rev above 8000 rpm!, any suggestions would be greatly apreciated

  Carole Nash Rip Off!
Posted by: Streetbudgie - 13-08-12, 11:57 AM - Forum: General - Replies (13)

So I bought a classic scooter on a whim 23 days ago - I know, I know but it was on E Bay all shiny and chrome and it was just calling out to me. Anyway I have another modern bike (Yamaha Fazer) insured with Bike Team but they don't take classics, so I though I'd try Carole Nash as I had a scooter with them a long while ago and I could arrange it on line.

The quote came back at £143 which seemed ok and I could pay in 3 installments of £47.60 so I paid the first on line and rode the bike home.

Problem number 1 occurred about two weeks after arranging the insurance when a credit agreement with a dodgy looking credit company arrived stating that 'my credit application was accepted and I now owed them £170 to be paid over 10 monthly instalments and a direct debit had been set up on my account to take the first payment that week'. Obviously I had no idea what this was about so I contacted the credit company to be told it was arranged by Carole Nash, the call taker was rude and arrogant throughout and gave me the impression that this company only deal with those who couldn't get mainstream credit approval' I told them I wanted nothing to do with them, I had no contract with them and they were to cancel any agreement they thought they might have, they refused and stated that Carole Nash would have to cancel it otherwise they would be taking money as stated. I got straight onto my bank and cancelled the direct debit they had set up and instructed the bank to ignore any further requests from them. I rang Carole Nash and gave them a rocket for not seeking my approval for this credit agreement and paid the full amount over the phone as this was the only way Carole Nash would agree to cancel the credit agreement. I did not receive an apology or a decent explanation as to why the agreement of 3 monthly instalments had been changed to the credit agreement.

Problem 2 occurred when I moved home, I knew I was moving when I took out the policy and explained this when I rang up to sort the credit agreement issue and was told it would not be a problem, simple phone call to change over and that would be that.  I rang this morning to change over the address and was told that my premium would go up by £115 and they would charge me £37.50 to change it over - What the F***!!!
I have moved to a nicer area, further out of London and all my other insurances - car, modern bike and home have all decreased or remained the same with no cost to change over.

The call taker was stroppy and rude through the call eventually putting me through to a 'Supervisor' (probably his mate at the next desk), who was exactly the same except he informed me that the area I have moved to is 2 insurance groups higher than where I was - to clarify I moved from Dagenham to Hornchurch (think Basra to Balmoral and you have the right comparison). When I stated that all my other insurances had decreased he couldn't offer any explanation other than 'that's what it says here'.

I then went off the phone and googled around classic bikes insurance and came up with Bike Sure who have quoted me £88 fully comp same address, same bike, same T&C. So that is £55 cheaper than Carole Nash's original quote and £170 cheaper than their revised premium for moving to my new address which they clearly think is downtown Baghdad.

Problem 3 occurred when I decided that I wasn't willing to pay their additional premium as it was clearly a complete rip off, so I called them back and told them I wanted to cancel. Bearing in mind I had paid the annual premium in full of £143 only a week or so earlier and had the insurance for a total of 23 days, the refund they are willing to give is a paltry £51 - yes £51 so that means I have paid £92 for 23 days insurance which is £4 more than Bike Sure want for the whole year at my new downtown Baghdad address.

The call taker explained that the charges were a combination of cancellation charge £37.50 part refund of the premium less 20% and an admin charge. There is no way in the world that Carole Nash can justify any of these charges except the 20% premium charge as that is made by the underwriters so this is blatantly a rip off by Carole Nash, money for nothing and poor service while doing nothing.

My advice - steer clear of Carole Nash at all costs and avoid them like the robbing toads they are, I will be telling all my biker and scootering friends about this experience so they don't get caught as well.

  Olympic Conclusions

How were your olympics?

While I don't follow any of the sports featured, I found myself drawn in and "dipping in" here and there to watch a little. Our village had a giant screen in the park on the middle Saturday and I spent a couple of hours there with a beer or two in the sunshine.
As far as I can tell it was a strange couple of weeks where everyone was sharing some love  8)
It was feared that traffic would affect us around Ebbsfleet station but it didn't.

I really enjoyed the spectacle of the opening and closing ceremonies but why on earth was George Michael allowed to do his latest single that not very many people would have known!!!!

Now bring on the new footie season...  :b

  Any Sparkies? Lighting circuit question...
Posted by: Andy Clap - 13-08-12, 10:43 AM - Forum: General - Replies (16)

I'm sticking wires in for the first-fit electrics for my kitchen.  The lights will be 12 x 40w recess spots (or LED, haven't decided yet), and a couple of accent lights.  This is on it's own circuit to the consumer unit.

Will 1mm cable be okay (which I have) or should I "future-proof" with 1.5mm (which means downing tools to go and get some)?

Cheers,
Andy

Baglux tank cover in silver/grey for Fazer 1000 Gen 1 for sale
Posted by: TrukkoMan - 13-08-12, 10:00 AM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (7)

I have a very tidy Baglux tank cover with no tears or faults for sale at £25. I also have a Bagster Athena tank bag (not illustrated but will if anyone is interested) that I thought I'd keep for my new bike but it doesn't suit the new one. I think £25 for the bag which is in good condition is a very fair price. £50 the pair. The bag suits the Fazer a treat and it's a roomy expandable bag with clear top pocket and two zipped side pockets.  Call on 07831 879444. Both prices are with post and packing additional.

1999 Fazer Headlight Mod Not Working
Posted by: Devic - 12-08-12, 10:28 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (14)

Hi, just brought my self another bike and managed to pick up a 1999 Fazer which I quite like as it's more upright that the old XJ600S I had a while back.

I noticed that someone had done the headlight Mod on it or so I thought, not exactly sure what they have done so hoping someone can give me some advice as at first it seemed they had done the Mod on here until I lifted the tank. Started off fine, apart from not working a single Blue wire covered with a Black sheath off the headlight connector so traced it back to inside a little black box under the front of the tank with a load of other connectors in there.

Everything seemed fine, until it came out the other side and was now a Red wire and a Blue wire in the original PVC sleeving so I traced the Red wire back inside the box and found that it had been spliced onto a 3 wire Brown connector. The wires were Blue/Black Stripe, Blue and Red/Yellow Stripe and the Red wire had been spliced and soldered onto the Blue/Black Stripe wire.

The Blue wire actually goes direct from the headlight to a little black unit under the left side panel, the Red wire only comes in once you get to the black box at the front of the tank but also goes to this little black unit under the side panel then both wires connect directly to the battery + and - terminals.

Be grateful for any advice if it is safe to remove this lot as I want the bike as it came out the factory as I tend to just use bulbs that have 100% extra brightness, plus some insurance companies won't pay out if there is a claim and the wiring has been altered unless it's a shop purchased product which this isn't.

The thing I want to know most is what exactly had that Red wire been spliced into as I don't have a wiring diagram so thought some one might know, if it's safe I will snip the red wire off and just tape up the soldered section of wire then remove the red and Blue wire completely. As it is the Mod doesn't work so makes me wonder what exactly they wired it into as everything works fine apart from that.

Only other question is when I lifted the tank the 2 pipes came off, does it matter which one goes on which side as I just put them back, one had a slight bit of rust so I put the pipe that had some residue of rust back on that one. Oh one last thing take it the petrol tap is just an on/off position at the back of the tank? These are the pipes.

Hope I haven't put any one into a coma reading this, just be grateful for any advice especially on removing the headlight Mod and what that Red wire has been spliced into as I don't see the point in having things just wired up that leave me sat there wondering what they are doing as it's not operating what it is supposed too.  :rolleyes

Thanks

Tim

  Fitted "Sports" HotGrips today...
Posted by: MadDogMcQ - 12-08-12, 08:37 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (10)

Finally got around to fitting the "Sports" version of Oxford's Hotgrips today. They call them "Sports" basically because the profile of the grips is quite low as opposed to the relatively chunky regular ones.

Nice digital switchgear and nice and toasty for the coming Autumn and Winter  :lol .  Very simple to install. I placed the controller in a void in front of the battery so as not to lose any underseat space.

Tom.
