  Crazy - amateur racing?!
Posted by: Slaninar - 20-03-13, 06:34 AM - Forum: General - Replies (18)

A mate asked me to race for their club. He used to be a good racer, veteran now. Day before yesterday. He saw me ride, saw my one (and only so far)  track day and said I could do OK. It's old-timer bikes race. Sad he'd give me a 100bhp bike, with good brakes. "We don't expect you to win, just finish the race".  I did ask him about racing, but wanted to go for 125, or 250 cc. Really don't think I'm up for it after just one bloody track day.... but I'd rather die than miss a chance like this. Hope it turns out for the best. First race end of april, then one race every month. Medical exam is due in the next few weeks.

I get to ride a proper (25 year old) sportsbike, YAY!    :rollin

  Restricted Fazer
Posted by: inditime - 20-03-13, 12:00 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (14)

Hi,

I bought a 2000 Fazer 600 on Saturday, only got 14K on the clock. Riding it steady to familiarize myself with a different bike.
Today I went for a nice ride, but when I try to overtake, there seems to be no power. It just gets to about 9-10000 revs and no more grunt to get past there. Im a bit dubious about this, and believe it is possibly restricted. But the dealer didn't mention this to me.
It does 0-60 in well over 8 secs, so Im a bit miffed right now. Im going back to the dealer tomorrow, and expect to get a load of bull*&^%.

How can I check if it is restricted or if it might have a more mechanical problem? Ive heard about washers in the intake, never seen or had them before, so not too sure what to look for.

  Helping a mate
Posted by: Yamazer-92 - 19-03-13, 11:56 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

My mate recently sold his bandit 600 for £1100 and bought a 1989 GSX R 750 slingshot for £1000. Personally, I'm not so sure it was a good idea because that seemed a lot to me for a bike that age, plus it has no MOT or tax and has been sat around for 5 years. He likes sport bikes and got a bit bored of his bandit even though it was a good runner and a lot newer on an 03 plate. Anyway allegedly the carbs have been sorted on the gsxr and it was stored without fuel etc so thats all fine, the main problems are the brakes and oil drain bolt.

The bike failed its mot last week for having excessively binding brakes. He's fitted a new master cylinder which then made the brake lines fail and leak a lot of fluid from the banjo bolts. So he's now fitted new braided brake hoses and said a mate has checked the calipers and cleaned them thoroughly etc. They arent leaking fluid anymore but are still binding quite badly, the discs aren't that worn but could possibly be warped? Not all the bobbins are as free as they could be. The wheel bearings seem okay, we're going to take the wheel off tomorrow and check / grease the spindle and give the calipers another clean to try and free them up.

Also today he tried to drain the oil but couldn't undo the drain plug on his own so asked if I would undo it whilst he held the bike. When I tried it was just spinning round and round, felt at times finger loose then quite tight, just spinning round in circles.  :\  It definitely wasn't undoing anyway, and he isnt sure what to do now, is it an engine out job? I think personally he's rushed into this buy a bit and is having doubts. It looks nice and it runs, sounds impressive but needs a few expensive parts like chain and sprockets etc.

Anyway, any advice with the oil drain bolt and brakes would be appreciated. Thanks.

Posted by: UG - 19-03-13, 11:54 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (9)

Just struck it up and it has chucked it's fluid out, was supposed to MOT it on Thursday.  Obviously that is not going to happen.
So I have for sale that was up until this afternoon a reliable Mk1 FZS600 street fightered, bar end mirrors, fly screen.
The new info is. A mechanic has told me it's the waterpump that's gone.

With the bike comes-:
Owners manual
Rear caliper hanger
Arse end tail tidy

Various length dogbones
1 fork seal
Ignition barrell with keys
Original bars (renthal fitted)
2 old rearcalipers
Front brake lever
Aftermarket end can and link pipe

Spare sprocket carrier

Belly pan (gold) has small crack and no fixings
A spare shock
Spare rear wheel
Topbox rail that has been welded so it will take a universal carrier
Fazer thou rear caliper
Back tyre changed less than 2k miles ago (Pilot road 2)
I have loads of nuts, bolts, old calipers, etc, etc.
Anything I have for a Fazer 600 goes with the bike.  It's Taxed until Feb 2014.
It has 28k on the clock.

Hi all,

new Fazer owner, nr St Neots. Hope to have some nice ride outs and chat on here.

I also have a FZ 750 which is now stripped for renovation, hence I got a Fazer to get me by whilst my FZ is on the ramp. Smile
