  Got Committed
Posted by: Ebme Geek - 21-03-13, 12:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (33)

Well couple of weeks ago fed-up with the racket it was making I started taking the bike apart and checked the cam chain tensioner and found it nearly at it's end, checked valve clearances, took cams out checked shims, ordered a new cam chain and couple of shims. I have put it off since, been too cold or windy blowing dust around (garage needs new door). But last night I got committed plenty of rags shoved down chain tunnel and this happened

[smg id=711]

Bit of help from my son, and we fed through the new chain attached to the old with copper wire. I borrowed a pro-motion style tool to split the chains, but it is designed for riveting hollow pins unlike the joining link I had  Wink  :rolleyes :'( , so my son held the chain against a block hammer and I used a flat ended punch at an angle and small hammer to peen over the pins, sorry no picture, all four hands were being used and a fair bit of concentration !  Worked a treat, measured up with a digital calliper, and happy with result  Big Grin

Two new shims in, cam shafts back in and clamped down. Valve clearances checked, and cover back on

Will have it going again soon, few more small jobs to do while it's in bits  :rolleyes  but gettin there  Smile

the other is a 2003 thats had a little bump and I am planning on turning it into a flat tracker/streetfighter style thing

  Gear change troubles
Posted by: Frazer74 - 20-03-13, 10:29 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (12)

Hi folks, I'm a new FZ1 owner, bought an 07 model and love it, best all rounder I've ever ridden. My only other yamaha was an R6 so that's all I've got to compare it to. That was slick between the gears, this one is "knotchy", gear changes quite often feel to be in two distinct parts and its easy to release the clutch before it has properly engaged. Can anyone tell me if this is a feature or if there could be a problem, I have a 3 month warranty so would like to move fast if something needs sorting.
Thanks for any advice
Fraser

Just Signed Up Thanks To My Wife
Posted by: FZSteely - 20-03-13, 09:57 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (87)

Hi there,
Thought i'd introduce myself. My name is James and thanks to my lovely wife Heather, I am now the proud owner of a 98 Fazer600. It's the bike i've always wanted since I was 13. I'm 27 now so it's been a long time coming!
Basically I came home on Saturday to find a Black Fazer on the drive way which she had bought from a member of this forum, who has kept the bike in near perfect condition and only 22k miles on the clock. The FZS has it's MOT booked in for Friday and I really can't wait to take it for a ride, looks like my days of riding my trusty Suzuki GS500 are over, so that will be up for sale soon.
I am also restoring a 1987 Kawasaki GPZ900R, which so far has cost me £2000 pounds, but I hope to turn a few heads in the Summer.
Anyway good to meet you all.
James.  Big Grin
