  Fender Extender......
Posted by: packie - 22-03-13, 09:39 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (8)

...got mine yesterday just in time for the monsoon over here!! Put one on my Bandit 12 with a bellypan 10 years ago and it's amazing what crap you keep off your pipes.

The lads from Skidmarz had a trade stall at a big bike show in Dublin at the start of the year. So instead of wasting my money on a "I wuz here" tee-shirt, I invested my money on something more useful. They sent it over from the UK when they got back, and costed a very reasonable €20 including postage.

...and as a bonus, for some strange reason my front midguard was already drilled with two holes either side to accept the extender. It looked as if this (probably aftermarket) fender was designed this way as the distance between the holes were very accurate and it was very professionally done. Saved me a bit of bother, anyway.

Here's a piccie...........

  Yuasa YT12B-BS battery consensus?
Posted by: gethyn - 22-03-13, 09:31 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (8)

Hi.

After a month of trawling the internet I found an affordable fazer. Well i went to pick it up yesterday and I've already got a smooth bump start technique. It's always good to acquire new skills but it's not what I had in mind! Anyway, the battery is dodo dead.

I've done a bit of research and it looks like the Yuasa YT12B-BS is the best option. Before I go and buy it (it won't be for a couple of weeks as we (the mrs and I) rinsed out the bank accounts to buy the bike and pay the insurance) I want to hear your voices. I've seen someone recommend this battery on this forum, but I wanted to get a broader consensus. So what do you think? Is it a decent product?

Cheers, I always appreciate forum help

  Update to Starting problem!
Posted by: Dave48 - 22-03-13, 08:50 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (1)

Left "big red" @ dealers last week as was away in Cornwall til this Tues. Had phone call to say bike was ready to collect yesterday so got a lift over with friend. The difficult starting was easy to sort. They cleaned plugs & added some "Forte Gas Treatment" to some fresh fuel & rebalanced carbs which I hadnt done since 2011. Apparently they had quite a job removing the Datatool Duo Immobiliser but at least its not there now to cause probs in the future. It was getting pretty cold as I left with strong icy blasts of wind but the first thing I noticed was how smooth running she is again-so came home the "long way round" :lol and what did I wake up to this morning-SNOW-like everyone else north of the M4-but at least we left Cornwall before the flooding! Can anyone remember warm sunny riding days? :'(

  Main stand pivot greasing
Posted by: reillypadraig - 22-03-13, 02:11 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (10)

Not sure if too many people have done this but I gave it a go the other day, bike way really stiff putting onto main stand, so I decided to remove it ( as I have a habit of removing stuf on this bike and found the pivot bearing ( or basically a bolt) dry as a done. So I greased it and put all back together, now here's the tricky part, the Haynes manuel says to bolt all back together and then reattach the spring, I found my spring to be a little tense :rollin

Haynes manuel doesn't tell you that you can separate the springs, so I put bike center stand without spring then attached the top half of both springs to the main frame and the pulled the smaller inner spring down onto the hook on the stand then the larger one over it, mind you for this I had a second pair of hand and a long screwdriver so both of us pushed the spring down at the same time from both sides of the bike. Probably not the best way of doing it but worked for me with the limited tools (and of course limited brain capacity)

But hey it's perfect now.

Anyone ever do this??

Air filters which should I go for
Posted by: brooker81 - 21-03-13, 10:27 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (13)

I'm servicing the bike soon before my trip, I'm looking at air filters but I have seen some positive/negative reviews about k&n filters, what experience have you guys/girls had with them on here. Either that or looking at pipercross filter, I'm looking at doin some high mileage over the next year and like the idea of a washable filter,do let me know of any problems with fitting if these aftermarket performance bits. Tbh I'm not looking for incase of bhp just something that may last longer than the standard air filter.thanks in advance.

Mystery wire on the brink of failure.
Posted by: binarystarr - 21-03-13, 07:21 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Hi all

I've just discovered a wire on the brink of failure but i can't figure out what it controls.

There are 2 wires below the reservoir on the right, one is earth and one is live (brown). Its the brown one thats frayed and close to failure. Have a look at the attachment.

Anyone know what this is? Something to do with the lights?

Will be repairing tomorrow but though it would try and figure out what it's purpose is!

  My first Fazer..
Posted by: tailgate - 21-03-13, 02:11 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (12)

Well it's FZ1S Gen2 whatever you want to call it (piss off!) Wink
After riding th whole lot of different bikes throughout the years (mostly sports - gixxer, busa, blade etc) the time has finally come (alongside missus growing belly) to open a new page on my biking. Sold my mint 10 Blade and bought this really neat fully faired Gen2 (the rest of the money went for the bloody stroller/carrycot).
Having to commute everyday in London... how the foc do you guys filter with these bloody mirrors? After blade it feels like one of those things they show on american chopper (no offense). I'd probably get used to the width quite fast.. 1 white van and 1 black cab so far got their mirrors trimmed.. doh
