Air filters which should I go for - brooker81 - 21-03-13

I'm servicing the bike soon before my trip, I'm looking at air filters but I have seen some positive/negative reviews about k&n filters, what experience have you guys/girls had with them on here. Either that or looking at pipercross filter, I'm looking at doin some high mileage over the next year and like the idea of a washable filter,do let me know of any problems with fitting if these aftermarket performance bits. Tbh I'm not looking for incase of bhp just something that may last longer than the standard air filter.thanks in advance.

Stick with a paper filter if you're not re-jetting.  Try searching ebay for Hi-Flo filters ... good quality, good price. Smile

Re: Air filters which should I go for - brooker81 - 21-03-13

I've seen them, although its only £10 more for the k&n I'm not re jetting as yet but may in the future does the fazer run badly on a k&n filer I only have an aftermarket can that's all

I've got a BMC filter in mine which I got off ebuygum at the same time as I got my Ivans Jet Kit. Should have been over 40 quid but I got it for 22 Smile Smile
Checked it recently and it could do with cleaning. Trouble is, the cleaning kit is best part of 20 quid, and you can get a paper filter for around that price. If I hadnt Ivanised my bike, I'd have stuck with paper jobbies. If you're not Ivanising or looking for a performance increase, stay with paper because then at least you can just pop a new one in instead of having to arse around with detergents and oils etc. :rolleyes

Thanks for all the info I have the cleaning stuff from me cars filters I'm still torn,it's £17 for paper filter and £24 for k&n maybe I will Ivan's in the future wating for that Spanish guy to pop over here again,I'm shit with the spanner, as long as the k&n doesn't overly lean the fuelling nd cause problems I'm still thinking about it.

Glad I made someone laugh I don't know his name.

Just my opinion but i would only drop a k&N in it if/when Mike works his magic on your bike. Otherwise stick with an original Yamaha filter. You can find them on Ebay for £30. My experience of pattern filters is generally a poor fit but Mike states that the Hi-Flo filter is good for the Gen1 and i have no reason to doubt him. He da man in the know  8)

I run a K&N on my '05 FZS100 and it's just fine.  No problems at all.
