Posted by: gel - 06-06-13, 08:19 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (30)

In April had my first big accident in 20 years of riding. Nothing damaged but extensive tissue damage. The old girl has gone :-(
Not too sure if will be on a bike for a while.

  Good morning from Nottinghamshire
Posted by: marcusfordus - 06-06-13, 06:33 AM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (3)

G-day folks, it's my first time on your forum, thought I'd better get on and see what I'm missing in the fazer world, since I've finally gotten hold of the 1000 I've been after for such a long time.
Trouble is I had to sell my other bike to get it  :\  Never mind, the Gen 1 is a damned more comfortable than a Blackbird.

First stop is the For sale and wanted, I need a rear hugger fitting to the bike, then yet another scottoiler  :rolleyes

  Clutch knock
Posted by: Superfour Tom - 06-06-13, 01:57 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Hi guys, Just wondering if the knocking from my clutch is normal. When riding around and come to a halt, I take it out of gear and release the clutch and it gives a knocking noise until i pull the clutch back in.

When first firing up (stationary), i find the noise will only come when i clutch-in, select 1st, Back to neutral then release the clutch again.  :\

I have just swapped the engine, the new one is a 14k minter that has no rattles or knocks (apart from this), The old engine did it too, but i cant make my mind up if this new engine is worse?

Can't think of anything other than the release bearing in my head. Or are these bikes just like this?

Cheers,
Tom

Only went in for a leather jacket
Posted by: seangee - 05-06-13, 10:41 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

Had a blast on here over the years as well as the Gen 1s. Been pretty quiet on both counts over the last year - hip surgery meant 6 months off riding (at least it was over winter). All back to normal now. Never did get the jacket but 8 more sleeps and I'll be riding this ...

R6 rear shock on the FZS600
Posted by: kebab19 - 05-06-13, 05:09 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (156)

Credit to Luke / DevilsYam for original inspiration
Credit to DCurzon for his top-hat spacer idea

These shocks fit but with a bit of hassle.

The standard spring is too soft unless you're a featherweight 8 stone or less & don't think about a pillion! A re-spring is needed to be safe

Although some people have transplanted the Fazer FZS 1000's rear shock onto their 600 (and this is a step in the right direction), these R6 shocks are an improvement again as they have separate high & low speed compression adjusters (particularly useful for overcoming those jarring, sharp-edged bumps that litter our public roads)

Save yourself a lot of p1ssing around by REMOVING the suspension linkages to allow the shock to fit more easily! While they're out, give 'em a good greasing.

The model you're after (13S) is the same one that all the 1000 owners are after, as well as GS500 twin owners(!) (2008 onwards shocks, it must have the compression adjusters together, not separate).  That means you'll have to watch ebay like a hawk or just buy one off a 1000 owner. Still, much cheaper than the likes of Nitron's basic emulsion shock & actually offers more adjustment options.
At 293mm long from eye centre to centre, its nearly 10mm shorter than the standard shock, so need different dogbones. I went with multiple height plates listed frequently on ebay that allow four different options & chose the highest ride height (normally +40mm) which is still slightly lower than standard.

Luke / Devilyam's suggested settings,

"Setting the high/low compression damping at 4 clicks out from full hard on the high speed adjusting nut, and 16 clicks out from full hard on the low speed compression blue screw worked well for me, and my weight. Rebound damping i have set at 16 clicks out from full hard, and that worked well, also."

  Major Service Time
Posted by: Falcon 269 - 05-06-13, 03:31 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (23)

Eleven years and 50k miles means time for a major service.  Soup Dragon is away for a week so no time interference from management. Wink

Loving the bike lift.  R6 shock replaced by Ohlins which had been away for new spring and refresh.  Fork oil changed, valve clearances done and all the other major service interval items.

Cleaned and polished, ready for another 50k miles. Smile

  Now here's some good news...
Posted by: Grahamm - 05-06-13, 11:46 AM - Forum: General - Replies (24)

Quote:  Motorway tailgaters and middle-lane hoggers are to face quick justice with on-the-spot fixed penalties under new measures announced by the government.

From July, police will be able to issue £100 fines and three points for careless driving offences that would currently have to go to court.

Current fixed penalties for using a phone while driving or not wearing a seatbelt will also rise by £40 to £100.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22770064

I'm sure we've all seen (and experienced) instances on motorways of Lane 1 being empty whilst someone blithely cruises along in Lane 2 (ignoring the rule of "Keep left unless overtaking" or, worse, an impatient idiot who thinks that they can "bully" you out of their way by driving six feet from your rear wheel, so this is a good thing.

The question is, of course, given the limited numbers of traffic police on our roads, do people think that this is actually going to have a positive effect on people's driving (or even riding!) or is it just a cynical money-making exercise designed to rack up more fines for the Government's coffers?

What are your opinions?
