Let the flaming begin - Forum Rules ?
Posted by: simonm - 30-06-13, 12:46 PM - Forum: Your Suggestions and How you can help - Replies (157)

I think a forum rules sticky would be a nice suggestion.

I don't find sexism, racism, profanity or trolling funny (others too, but the list of my intolerance could get long).  It makes it worse when it's written off as sarcasm or a joke and everyone says 'ha ha'.  It's not funny it's offensive to me and (hopefully) others.

If you want the forum to have a broader audience then perhaps less swearing too.  Sure you can have it in an adult only banter area if you want, but I'd like to think most people can have fun without being crude and base.

Yeah I'm going to be mocked, but tbh I really don't really care.  Most mature and popular Forums have forum rules and that's my justification for this post.

examples:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81
http://ubuntuforums.org/misc.php?do=showrules
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/4715856.stm
I could do a VERY long list

Let the flaming begin.

  What grease?
Posted by: Farjo - 30-06-13, 12:42 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (17)

Centre stand is no longer smooth and gets stuck half-way up and needs to be lifted by hand. So I want to take it off to clean and grease it.

Having had no spanner experience before biking I need to ask what grease to use. There seems to be many mentioned on an internet search - lithium, white, or mostly just "grease". I already have copper grease - is this good for the job or should I get something else?

And finally is this a job I can do myself - have read darsi's thread http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,2879.0.html however I would suggest that there is a gap between his years of experience and expertise and my own Smile

  Thundercat for sale/swap
Posted by: AlexFZS - 30-06-13, 12:26 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (8)

Hi all,

Apologies for my first post being a for sale post but the long and short is I currently own a rather nice thundercat but due to my back playing up and needing a more upright riding position im looking to buy a FZS600 or possibly a FZ6. So i'm after either a straight sale or a swap with a bike of similar mileage/conditon or part exchange so the spec of my bike is as follows:

1998 Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat

1 years tax
8 months MOT
25k on the clocks
Complete service history
Pyramid single seat cowl
MRA double bubble screen
Rear hugger
New michelin pilot power 3 tires front and back
New EBC sintered front pads
New EBC organic rear pads
New Hel braided brake lines
Brake fluid flushed and changed to Castrol dot4
New K&N performance oil filter
Full oil change with Motul 5100 oil
New battery
Full respray in custom black and white with new vinyl decals
Suspension professionally setup up by Steve Jordan motorcycles and performance

The bike has been rebuilt over the winter and the majority of the parts on the bike have done less than 1k miles and as you can see from the pictures the bike is in fantastic condition and is finished and ready to go for the summer, the bike needs nothing and I honestly think it is a brilliant example.

Mechanically the bike is excellent, starts first time every time with a smooth pulling engine, great suspension and brakes to match. V5 is in my name and I have 2 keys and all paperwork present.

I after £1800 for the bike which I think is a fair price as it is pretty clean.

Any questions don't hesitate to give me a ring/message - Bike is located in Woking (Surrey).

  Another MOT question
Posted by: Tori - 30-06-13, 07:54 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

My cars mot runs out on 20th July. I had it mot'd on Friday. It needed a fair amount of work, brakes etc, which I was getting done all at the same time.

It failed as my windscreen washer jet had packed up. Fair enough. The mot tester then tells me, if he cannot get it working, the car will fail, and I will have no mot. I reply, it's ok, it doesn't run out til 20/7. He then tells me that will not valid! If I get pnc checked by the police, my car would be flagged up as an mot failure and if I had an accident, it would be doubtful I had valid insurance!

I was always under the impression that your old ticket still stood, but apparently this is a very grey area. I checked with another garage and they told me there was no definitive answer, and that it was very risky territory!!

So, if you not early, be aware that if it fails, your old ticket may, or may not be valid!! What a farce!

I only tend to use tapatalk and read the unread posts but as I'd read them all I started to read any in the subscribed to section and found several posts that I hadn't read but that didn't show up in the unread part?

  MOT question
Posted by: ghostbiker - 29-06-13, 10:28 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Playing with a beat up Zx6r and gunna try a mot on it.
Done pretty much all the mot work now apart from its front mudguard is smashed.
Now with the 1998 Zx6r the front fairing hangs a long way over the wheel.
Is a front mudguard a must for mot (got one on way but will be a week or so) or can I get away with out it.

  chain rivet
Posted by: His Dudeness - 29-06-13, 09:02 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (20)

I stuck a new did chain and sprocket set on the bike and I'm just wondering if there's a spec on the dimensions that the riveted link should be after it has been riveted? I had a look on the did site and I couldn't see anything but maybe I missed it. It's the outer diameter of the head of the riveted pins and the inside diameter of the indents in the pins that I'd be interested in. Anyone know if there's a spec?
