  Fast Memories

Went to Mega Motorcycle store today at Swindon, and there was a guy there with a 1991 FZR1000 EXUP, very clean and standard apart from the can. This is the model I had my big stack on, but I still love the looks of this bike. The owner let me have a sit on it, and I found I could reach the bars, but probably wouldn't be able to ride it far, still too much of a stretch for this buggered arm of mine.
He'd just picked it up from wherever, £1500, £120 to insure it, and not even on a classics policy! That's a lot of bike for very little dosh. I once had 180 mph on the clock on mine, he reckoned they held the record for the fastest top end on any mass produced bike until the first Hayabusa came along.

Once again, wish I'd had my camera with me as I never got any photos of my one  :\

  Removing generator cover
Posted by: Lez72 - 11-09-13, 02:02 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

I know there are 5 bolts holding the generator cover on but I have removed them and it still wont budge. Do I have to remove the screw towards the top right of the cover aswell ? Once undone, can the cover just be pulled off or does the generator come off with it ? I only want to take it off to repaint it. Is this more hassle than its worth. I cant seem to find a definitive in the Haynes manual download  Sad

Hi All,
Thought I best introduce myself as no doubt I will be asking for some help before too long. I'm not sure how I ended up in this position but I have effectively been given my Uncle's Fazer. It's a 2001 FZS600 with 16k on the clock. Before you all start calling me lucky it has a bit of a sting in tail. He has owned the bike for around ten years but it hasn't moved for more than a year; in itself this wouldn't be a problem except it was parked outside his house which is 20yds from the beach in Brighton. It's fair to say its seen better days. A breaker offered him £150 but I hate to see things scrapped so I've been talked into a full restoration. I've done classic cars before but not bikes so should be interesting.
I'll try and post some pictures later, I've started tearing it down so the frame can be powder coated, the engine is out and looks shocking; to be honest I can't believe it still ran but after a year of standing a bit of fresh petrol and a charged battery and it fired up first time!
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks
Paul

Combine a Fazer With a Triumph Tiger And You Get a What? - Ideas Please
Posted by: Frosties - 11-09-13, 12:50 PM - Forum: General - Replies (27)

In a predicament fellas and need some advice.

My main 50 mile each way commute is a Triumph Tiger 900 which is currently off the road until i receive some new coil packs. The Fazer is my Friday early getaway bike (and backup bike) because it is so much better at slipping through the traffic leaving London to go back down the M4.

As a result I have been using the Fazer since Monday and each day has been a bit of a bitch getting out (Monday especially). The main area is leading up to Earls Court Rd on the A4 through to the end of the M4 elevated.

The Fazer simply gets through the gaps so much easier than the Tiger and I can still make progress even when nearly gridlocked - Tiger is bloody hard work when traffic like this.

Now, due to a bad fall some 5 years ago, I can't last more than 3 days on the Fazer due to the slightly leant forward position hence the preference for the Tiger with its upright riding style.

With the traffic seemingly getting worse, I'm looking at what would be a hybrid of the 2 bikes (sell the Tiger). The bike needs a 200 mile range, decent weather protection as I ride all year, be able to have a top box and be as good as the Fazer for traffic busting but with an upright riding position. Must also be able to sit at 95mph with no issues.

The only 2 that come to mind is a 650 V-Strom Big Grin  or a Dullville  :'(

Any other ideas would be appreciated. Cheers in advance.

  I'm Happy

Not really relevant to anyone else I know lol but while I was down at Poole quay last night I came to the conclusion that there wasn't a single bike there I would swap for my Fazer, there are quite a few I would have as well as but not instead of, now that is quite a result for me because I have always been a 'grass in greener' gal with pretty much every bike I have had.......I really Love my Fazer  :thumbup ....The End.
