How long to service the bike?
Posted by: bigfootpete - 12-09-13, 09:17 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (14)

I'm booked in for 36k service - which the stealer has said will take about three hours - does that sound a little excessive? Or about right?

They also want to add 1 1/2 hours for the chain and sprockets...

  Drive sprocket nut
Posted by: TonyW - 12-09-13, 07:45 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (19)

New owner here. I've just bought a 1999 Fzs 600 that's only done around 4000 miles. I've not passed my test yet (start training on the 23rd) so I'm using the time to fettle it a bit (not that it needs much) Just freeing off a sticky front brake piston and re-painting the main stand so far. On the advice of a forum member, I pulled off the drive sprocket cover and checked the drive sprocket nut. Its a 9mm thick nut. There's no sign of movement between sprocket, lock tab and nut. I'm pretty sure its the original chain and sprockets. So do I get a new 12mm thick nut and change it now or wait until I need a new chain/sprocket set and do it then?

  Blast from the Past
Posted by: ManicMarvin - 12-09-13, 04:54 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (5)

Hello foccers,

ManicMarvin here and just rejoined the new foc-u, based in Cheltenham.
Originally a member back in 2002 after passing my test and buying a Fazer 600, Red...which of course we all know to be the fastest Fazer 600  I ran on the Southampton 2002 trip and also on the French Foray 2003 and 2004...which was just fantastic!

So today, after an excursion onto Triumph's (Sprint ST & America (I know...I know)), I came back from my local dealer after buying a 2011 Fazer8 in white...which of course we all know to be the fastest Fazer8

Pick her up next Thursday as they're fitting heated grips, main stand and giving her a service.  Cannot wait, booked off next Friday and the following Monday...bring it on!

Cheers. Manic.

20mph limit for City of London
Posted by: Farjo - 12-09-13, 04:45 PM - Forum: General - Replies (11)

"Elected City of London Corporation votes to cut Square Mile speed limit to 20mph."

That's all streets within the City of London, presumably that includes Lower and Upper Thames Streets. Dunno when it's effective from, or whether there are more steps to go through, but blimey!!

  VHT Flameproof Paint
Posted by: hightower - 12-09-13, 01:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (11)

My engine block looks so tatty with the paint flaking. I was given a tin of something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VHT-BLACK-FLAM...0869502666 from a lad at work - the picture on it is of the exhaust pipes, but would this sort of stuff go on to the engine block just as well?

If so would it just be a case of:

1) Clean parts to be sprayed
2) Mask parts not to be sprayed
3) Spray?

Be careful with the autumn sunlight
Posted by: Grahamm - 12-09-13, 12:16 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

A biker near here was seriously injured a couple of days ago.

Apparently he was stopped at a junction waiting to turn right when he was rear-ended by a car, the driver of which didn't see him because there was low, blinding sunlight in their eyes.

So if you're in a similar situation or stopped at traffic lights etc, it might be worth stopping short of where you're planning to turn and keeping an eye on your mirrors for anything coming up behind, so you have an escape route or can sound your horn to warn them.

Sad

My sin wants to buy one of these. Does anyone have any experience on these bikes. Seen one on eBay for £600. It has had 10 owners and is a 2003.
