  Do Thundercat cases fit?
Posted by: Ruby Racing - 19-09-13, 11:51 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (17)

Got a '98 FZS600 for my next project bike.

I've been doing a fair bit of research, however I haven't found an answer to this question: "Will Thundercat cases fit on the FZS600?"

Visually they look the same and I just wondered if anyone had actually fitted them OK? The reason I ask is because I'd like to fit some of the NRC toughened engine cases, but they only appear to be listed for the Thundercat not the Fazer.

  thundercat vs Fazer
Posted by: simonm - 19-09-13, 10:56 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (46)

Whilst looking to see if thundercat brake levers would fit on a FZS600 I wondered why it's widely stated that the Fazer (95bhp) is based on a detuned thundercat (89BHP) engine.

How is it detuned if it has more power than the thundercat ? (I understand the thundercat probably has more low end and maybe through the rev range due to the ram-air doo dah ?)

It looks like the Thundercat has 87.7 bhp @ 11,250RPM whilst the Fazer has 95 bhp @ 11,500RPM.  The Thundercat is allegedly 223kg and the Fazer 189kg.  Surely the weight makes up for some of the lack of power ?

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that the seating position and front forks and fairing make the Thundercat a quicker bike, I'm just wondering how the engine is 'detuned', it sounds like an insult since at certain times (??)  it will be more powerful than it's brethren.

I know Punk likes the Thundercat and that is enough for me to safely believe that it is a cracking bike, this is not supposed to be a criticism of either bike, just a question.

I wonder if anyone can point me to a dyno from a stock Thundercat and a stock FZS as that may shed some light on it for me.

TIA

Track/Paddock Pumps or whatever they are called?
Posted by: Capt - 19-09-13, 10:54 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

I wonder is it me or me Fazer or have the garage tyre pumps got harder to use?  Everything seems to be at the wrong angle & have to use an adaptor to overcome this which causes no end pain bending down longer than I have to in my aging years.

Therefore, have any of the forum got any feedback, are these any good or any other variants of them?

  Anything else?
Posted by: TonyW - 19-09-13, 12:01 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (49)

So I'm getting back onto a bike after 25+ years. The last bike I had was a RD200dx re reg'd as a 125.  Wink  I just turned 47  and decided to have my mid life crisis now while I can still enjoy it. I've been getting the new Fazer ready for if when I pass my test. So far I've removed and cleaned all the calipers and changed the brake fluid and pads. Changed both tyres to 023's as the original ones (F bt45 R 020) weren't worn out but were 10 years old. Re seated the Quill can and link pipe. Taken off the fairing to tidy up the wiring and straightened up the fairing brackets. Changed the engine oil and filter. Cleaned the air filter. And finally changed the drive sprocket nut for the mod one.
Anything else I need to do?

Can anyone remember the little mod that Luke mentioned where he said he didn't like Huggers and had done a little mod to protect the shock.
I can't find it anywhere and I think Luke must be on his hols?

Went to the cinema tonight to see Rush, what an awesome film. This was when F1 was interesting.
Wouldn't it be great to do a similar film of Barry Sheene and Kenny Roberts?

  Bad day?
Posted by: Punkstig - 18-09-13, 10:00 PM - Forum: General - Replies (11)

Started the day off by dropping the iPhone and smashing the screen, funny thing is I took it out of its waterproof shock proof case to make an important call as the boss constantly complains he can't hear me properly when its in the case, well I still made the call and after next week I now have a new boss!

So, ho hum its only a phone,

First job of the day I get a Brighton wait and return (so I get payed from London to Brighton and back to London)
Happy days,
M23 way back and there's flashing blue lights in my mirrors, I over took him not long previous at just below 80 so its not for speeding, I pull over, remove my helmet and approach the unmarked BMW,
'Good afternoon officer'
'Good afternoon sir, any reason why your vehicle is showing as having no MOT?'
Wtf? Dagnammit, now in the past every bike I've had I have the MOT and tax coincide the same month so when I get the tax reminder through I know to get the MOT done too!

'Sooo, how much of a good mood are you in today officer as I can call up my mechanics and book the bike in for an MOT for today'
'Youre going to have to do that anyway, I'm giving you a ticket'
'How much?'
'£100’
'Fuckit'

Oh well, my own fault, but importantly non endoresable so no points on the license!

Turns out I worked the whole day for free.  Sad
