Anything else?
#1
So I'm getting back onto a bike after 25+ years. The last bike I had was a RD200dx re reg'd as a 125.  Wink  I just turned 47  and decided to have my mid life crisis now while I can still enjoy it. I've been getting the new Fazer ready for if when I pass my test. So far I've removed and cleaned all the calipers and changed the brake fluid and pads. Changed both tyres to 023's as the original ones (F bt45 R 020) weren't worn out but were 10 years old. Re seated the Quill can and link pipe. Taken off the fairing to tidy up the wiring and straightened up the fairing brackets. Changed the engine oil and filter. Cleaned the air filter. And finally changed the drive sprocket nut for the mod one.
Anything else I need to do?

Just had a read up on the headlight mod.
Mine has the third terminal on the o/s bulb connecter but it must be disconnected at the other end as its only got the single light. Tomorrow's job is to trace the wire back

pics: Me sat on it before I bought it, and in its new home. If I look a little haggard, well 6 kids will do that to you.

You say you cleaned the air filter, what type of filter does it have?

Six kids... bloody hell, three were enough to virtually wipe me out.

If it's been stood for a while, you could clean out the carbs, pilot jets and fine drillings, they can get gummed up in my experience.
However if you taken it out on the road and goes O.K. don't bother.

You could grease the back shock linkage and swinging arm.

And check the plug colour, seeing as it's got replacement downpipes.
If the plugs are white the link pipe may need sleeving down, I think mine was a Motad one, and I had to sleeve it down.

Invest in preferably engine bars or at the very minimum crash bungs,
That's a lovely tidy looking bike, it'd be a shame for it to be damaged over something minor (which the majority of us have done!)
Some say...

Hmm dont want to worry you --and I may be wrong, but I think that your decals are wrong for a black 98, has it been in a crash before you brought it.
Here is mine and you can see yamaha on the tank and fazer on the fairing.

A mate took it out for a spin to check it out, pulls like a train he said, its noticeably more powerful than his Bandit. Fazersharp  a couple of fairing brackets weren't quite straight, so I do believe it has had some sort of minor shunt and a new fairing fitted. I quite like the minimalist decals though.

That would explain the lack of "fazer" but also if not a respray the tank if off a later model - hence the logo instead of yamaha.

I did have a bit of a play on it in a local car park, just to see if I could remember how to ride. It all came flooding back  Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
I loved my RD, in Red, ported, boysen reeds, allspeed expansion, Handlebars rotated backwards to look like clip-ons. laying on the tank with my feet on the rear pegs, and hitting 7000rpm when the power band started.  :evil Big Grin :evil Big Grin

You obviously didn't see my earlier question, but i was curious that you 'cleaned' your air filter, is it a standard one or a K&N?

Oh okay, whenever you feel the urge to change it just buy a K&N for it, they're about £30 odd on Ebay, a little more money than a standard one, but you will feel a great difference.
It very noticably helps the bike breathe a lot easier, plus it'll last the life of the bike with no maintainence needed for the first 50,000 miles.
It's a winner all round.  Smile
