What goes where please ? (Carb refitting)
Posted by: ali baba - 14-11-20, 02:25 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Hi all,

I've removed and cleaned my carbs following a long lay-up and am having memory issues about what connects to what and the manual is no help, so hoped the peeps on here might be able to help ?

Photo 1 shows two medium black tails up high that are expecting hoses to connect to them as well as a larger black recess in the middle of them that I am scratching my head about, and another brown medium tail lower down that I am expecting the feed from the fuel pump (and filter) to connect to.

Is that right and what are the black tails / recess for please ?

Photo 2 shows the underside where I've connected the coolant pipes to where I think they should go. Are they in the right places please ?

Photo 3 shows the cylinder side, does anything look wrong there please ?

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

  The Covid thread
Posted by: fazersharp - 11-11-20, 03:01 PM - Forum: General - Replies (839)

Their seems to be a lot of talk about vaccine at the moment. Get ready for a massive campaign at least as vigorous as the one used to scare the sh1t out of the population about covid in the first place, calling anyone who has genuine concerns an "Anti vaxer". Remember in the middle of the BSE mad cow disease scandal the then agri minister John Gummer feeding his 4 year old daughter a burger, expect to also see that kind of thing.

I don't feel it will be directly compulsory but I predict it may as well be because without a piece paper saying you have had the vaccine you will not be allowed to do almost anything, along the lines of
Public transport, visit the doctors, use a supermarket in person, visit a footy match, get a loan or mortgage. One is reminded of

  Iannone banned for 4 years.
Posted by: robbo - 11-11-20, 10:22 AM - Forum: Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) - Replies (7)

The appeal on Iannone's 18 month ban, didn't go to plan, with the appeal court upholding the original 4 year ban. If he wants it, Cal should be in a good position for the vacant Aprilia seat, as Bradley has been relegated from his test rider job, by Savadori, this years Italian Superbike winner.
Looks like Dovi will take a year out, at the moment, so Cal could be well placed for the slot.

  Nervous Speedometer
Posted by: ArchDruid - 10-11-20, 06:06 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (4)

Before I start taking things apart, I though I'd put it out there to see if someone could point me quickly in the right direction.
My speedo reading has always had a stable reading regardless of the speed. But now I've noticed the needle is getting a bit 'jumpy'. It gets worse the faster I go.
Starts getting nervous at about 50.  At 70 it bounces around between 65 & 75. And at about 120, its bouncing around between 100 & 140  :lol).
Anyone had a similar issue ?

  Under the Tank.
Posted by: RoyBatty - 09-11-20, 08:02 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

I took the tank off for the first time last night, kinda wished I hadn't.  Geez what a lot of c**p there is under there!  No decent access to anything.
Has anyone, ever, managed to change the #2 and #3 plugs with the engine in situ?!  I looked at the outer ones, using the gadget in the bike tool kit. They seem ok condition/mixture, Iridium type, bit loose in their threads...  So I pondered doing away with the AIS, to make a bit of space, but I can't see how you'd get the main chunk of it out!?
I suppose I should renew the coolant anyway, and removing the radiator doesn't look too big a deal, maybe then I could check/change the middle two plugs?
There's a nice clean K and N filter in there, guess I should have checked before ordering a new paper one from Yambits, Doh!
On the outer two carbs (at least), there are no sealing plugs over the idle mixture screws. Were they there as standard on UK bikes?  I wonder if it's been 'got at' already, carb wise.  It did seem to go REALLY well on my shortish test ride...
Brake lines and bleed nipples arrived today, jobs are stacking up, conservatory stinks of petrol already, Mrs on the warpath.  My comment that 'At least the Harley in the lounge doesn't smell' = Wrong answer.

Theft victim charged with murder after ramming thief off his motorcycle
Posted by: Grahamm - 06-11-20, 06:41 PM - Forum: General - Replies (29)

Ok, this one is already on the Facebook forum, but it's very difficult to follow all the different conversations on there, so hopefully we can discuss it reasonably here.

Theft victim charged with murder after ramming thief off his motorcycle

Quote:THE victim of a motorcycle theft has been charged with murder after ramming two motorcycle thieves from his motorcycle as they tried to escape.

First of all, I'd like to ask that, despite how people feel, we keep this discussion civil and avoid ill-tempered comments.

The short version is that the biker heard someone trying to steal his motorcycle, chased after them in his car and rammed them twice, the second impact causing the thieves to be knocked off the bike, one dying after hitting a lamp post and the second suffering serious injuries.

It should also be mentioned that the biker then left the scene and other members of the public then had to help the injured people.

Now, whilst some people may be thinking "they deserved it" or "serves them right" or "I'd do the same", there are few points that need to be made. (NB I follow The Secret Barrister on Twitter who often explains how the newspaper headlines and stories about cases like these are often exaggerated or distorted and don't necessarily represent the facts correctly).

So, a few points...

1) Obviously, theft is wrong.

2) You have the right to use "reasonable force" to defend yourself and your property if it or you are at risk.

3) Using a car to chase people and knock them off a motorcycle most probably does not come under the heading of "reasonable".

4) Taking the law into your own hands is generally frowned upon.

5) Whilst the headline says the prosecution are calling for a murder charge, it's unlikely that such a charge would actually be proven as it would be necessary to demonstrate intent to kill.

6) Because he left the scene, presumably he was aware that what he had done, so it's very unlikely he'd get off completely. Most likely the charge will be reduced to manslaughter and he'd probably be best to make a guilty plea before it goes to court to get the maximum reduction in sentence.

7) Yes, certain members of the Police are authorised to use "Tactical contact" to stop stolen bikes, however they are *trained* for this and to evaluate the best way to do it in a way that causes least danger.

8 ) No matter what you think of bike thieves, the penalty for theft is not murder, so please, no lynch mob style comments about "they deserved it" or "if more people did this, there would be fewer bike thefts".

9) The Prosecution are trying to get their case out into the public domain and media, unfortunately the Defence can't generally do the same. That's just how the system works.

There's probably more, but that covers a fair few things that will come up.

  Live feed
Posted by: RoyBatty - 06-11-20, 06:39 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

I'd like to connect a voltmeter, just an £8 thing from Amazon.
I've got one on my Blackbird after getting stranded (notorious for Reg/Rec issues, in fact one of the 'cures' is to fit an R1 item!) and it's great for peace of mind.  8)
So I need a 'switched' live feed, preferably near to the battery, maybe with a junction so I don't have to cut into anything.
Anybody done similar?
