  Please Help !!
Posted by: Macca4786 - 26-01-14, 08:59 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (20)

Morning all.

As you will be able to guess from the terms I use in my question I am new to riding and I have a problem!
Yesterday was a fairly nice day so after 8 weeks in the garage out came my pride and joy my 1997 fazer . I struggled to start it at first but  I finally got it going, any suggestions about why it was struggling please feel free. The ignition was working just wouldn't fire for about 20 mins  even on full choke etc.

Anyway  here's the issue. For some stupid reason I messed with the circular knob on the left hand side of the bike which adjusts the RPM.  I now cannot find where it was set to so I have zero revs on my bike unless the choke is on ! Stupid I know but lack of experience I just tried everything when it wouldn't start . I keep turning the RPM adjuster but it doesn't seem to do anything. Is it possible I have broken it ?

Any suggestions are welcome as am gutted at The minute first bike an all that and am hoping it not an expensive fix right before the new season !!!

Thanks for you time and any replies in advance

Danny

  Downpipe Refurbishment
Posted by: Yamazer-92 - 25-01-14, 09:40 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (36)

This is one for all of the bored masochists out there. Last weekend I got my old down pipes off nice and easy. They have been blowing for some time so I bit the bullet and got some stainless motads but when they arrived for some reason I just wasn't really that impressed. So I set about refurbing my originals and have left the stainless in my room for now. I took the original pipes to a local garage to get the worst bit welded up which he has done a really good job of and it didn't cost much at all. I then today set about the task of prepping the down pipes for painting:

  1. First I washed them off thoroughly using a pressure washer. Not normally advised but fine as they weren't on the bike, was powerful enough to take a small amount of the paint off.
  2. Sprayed on some muc-off degreaser and let it set for a few minutes, then brushed it in with a stiff brush.
  3. Rinsed off the residue with the pressure washer and left to dry.
  4. Used 80 grit aluminium oxide paper that I got from Halfords and cut it into 8 A5 strips, then sanded like a furious ape for about 2-3 hours.
  5. Halfway through I flipped the pipes over and degreased and pressure washed them again.
  6. More sanding
  7. I then went over the worst bits with a wire brush drill attachment, this created a few more holes but I will take the pipes back down to the garage to be re welded in those areas. At least I exposed them now so that they can be reinforced before putting them on the bike as weak as they were and having them become holes in no time.
All in all it was quite an effort and took a fair few hours of hard work to complete but I feel like it was definitely worth it. I will put up some photos when they are completed after they have been welded and I've finished painting them.

Here is the aluminium oxide paper I used. It comes in 4 A4 sheets which I cut in half. I ended up using it all and just about had enough.

Here are some pics, they look better in the flesh and you can't really see how smooth they are now but it is a huge improvement on what they were like before believe me.

  Man Rules
Posted by: Kosmic Kartman - 25-01-14, 08:06 PM - Forum: General - Replies (12)

MAN RULES
AT LAST A GUY HAS TAKEN THE TIME TO WRITE THIS ALL DOWN
FINALLY, the guys' side of the story. ( I MUST ADMIT, IT'S PRETTY GOOD.)
WE ALWAYS HEAR 'THE RULES' FROM THE FEMALE SIDE
NOW HERE ARE THE RULES FROM THE MALE SIDE
THESE ARE OUR RULES!
PLEASE NOTE. THESE ARE ALL NUMBERED #1 ON PURPOSE!
1. MEN ARE NOT MIND READERS.
1. LEARN TO WORK THE TOILET SEAT. YOU'RE A BIG GIRL. IF IT'S UP, PUT IT DOWN. WE NEED IT UP, YOU NEED IT DOWN. YOU DON'T HEAR US COMPLAINING ABOUT YOU LEAVING IT DOWN.
1. CRYING IS BLACKMAIL.
1. ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT. LET US BE CLEAR ON THIS ONE:
SUBTLE HINTS DO NOT WORK!
STRONG HINTS DO NOT WORK!
OBVIOUS HINTS DO NOT WORK!
JUST SAY IT!
1. YES AND NO ARE PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE ANSWERS TO ALMOST EVERY QUESTION.
1.. COME TO US WITH A PROBLEM ONLY IF YOU WANT HELP SOLVING IT. THAT'S WHAT WE DO. SYMPATHY IS WHAT YOUR GIRLFRIENDS ARE FOR.
1. ANYTHING WE SAID 6 MONTHS AGO IS INADMISSIBLE IN AN ARGUMENT. IN FACT, ALL COMMENTS BECOME NULL AND VOID AFTER 7 DAYS.
1. IF YOU THINK YOU'RE FAT, YOU PROBABLY ARE. DON'T ASK US.
1. IF SOMETHING WE SAID CAN BE INTERPRETED TWO WAYS AND ONE OF THE WAYS MAKES YOU SAD OR ANGRY, WE MEANT THE OTHER ONE.
1. YOU CAN EITHER ASK US TO DO SOMETHING OR TELL US HOW YOU WANT IT DONE. NOT BOTH.
IF YOU ALREADY KNOW BEST HOW TO DO IT, JUST DO IT YOURSELF.
1. WHENEVER POSSIBLE, PLEASE SAY WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO SAY DURING COMMERCIALS.
1. CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS DID NOT NEED DIRECTIONS AND NEITHER DO WE...
1. ALL MEN SEE IN ONLY 16 COLORS, LIKE WINDOWS DEFAULT SETTINGS..
PEACH, FOR EXAMPLE, IS A FRUIT, NOT A COLOR. PUMPKIN IS ALSO A FRUIT. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MAUVE IS.
1. IF WE ASK WHAT IS WRONG AND YOU SAY 'NOTHING,' WE WILL ACT LIKE NOTHING'S WRONG. WE KNOW YOU ARE LYING, BUT IT IS JUST NOT WORTH THE HASSLE.
1. IF YOU ASK A QUESTION YOU DON'T WANT AN ANSWER TO, EXPECT AN ANSWER YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR..
1. WHEN WE HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING YOU WEAR IS FINE...REALLY.
1.. DON'T ASK US WHAT WE'RE THINKING ABOUT UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO DISCUSS SUCH TOPICS AS FOOTBALL OR MOTOR SPORTS.
1. YOU HAVE ENOUGH CLOTHES.
1 .. YOU HAVE TOO MANY SHOES.
1. I AM IN SHAPE. ROUND IS A SHAPE!
1.. THANK YOU FOR READING THIS. YES, I KNOW, I HAVE TO SLEEP ON THE COUCH TONIGHT.. BUT DID YOU KNOW MEN REALLY DON'T MIND THAT? IT'S LIKE CAMPING...
PASS THIS TO AS MANY MEN AS YOU CAN - TO GIVE THEM A LAUGH...
PASS THIS TO AS MANY WOMEN AS YOU CAN - TO GIVE THEM A BIGGER LAUGH, BECAUSE ITS TRUE!

  Wobbly indicators!
Posted by: Offtheclockuk - 25-01-14, 07:34 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

Soooooo, as the title suggests my indicators "flap" for the want of a better word when going over bumps.

There is also a vibration at certain revs that can be cured by holding the indicators still, I have the gist of what should be done from the hot poop guide,
But for the life of me can't get the retaining clips to release them from the fairing, it feels like I'm going to break something, I can see the clip squeezing but the rest of the round part of the base doesn't release Undecided

Has any one done a photo guide On this yet?

Other than that it's been brilliant!

Bike blown over in high winds today
Posted by: ajhutchinson - 25-01-14, 07:16 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Today in the high winds my bike a Gen1was blown over. Damage to the bike, 1 bar end, Clutch cover cracked (swing slight oil leak) and possible bent bars, all on the right side. Lucky no damage to fairing or tank.  Could have been worse. If anyone has any of these damaged parts that they wish to sell, please either PM me or call 07717312020.

  First impressions

Well it got me home in relative comfort.
Stopped twice to stretch legs and once more for fuel.
Rides really nicely but the clutch is very late
Is that a sign it needs replacing or can I adjust it some how?
Fuel light comes on as soon as needle hits quarter full but goes off again when under quarter??
Throttle cable has a bit of slack but I think I can do that.

Apart from those niggles I'm really pleased with it, it's heavier than I was expecting, my trx 850 seemed lighter
But it's quite comfy and goes really well!!

How often do you change your oil
Posted by: lew600fazer - 25-01-14, 05:25 PM - Forum: General - Replies (31)

Hi My dealer out here in Spain is trying it on I reckon. How often do you get your bike serviced. I say by milage or annually.
Normally I will do my own servicing oils filters etc!But as my FZ6 is still under yamaha 2 year warranty (2010 bike but first registered June 2013) they are telling me the oils should be changed at 6000kms = 3750 miles. I had the first service at 1000kms =625 miles. I have looked at the service manual and it says 10,000kms/6250 miles for oil change and 20,000kms/12500miles for the filter. I would not do an oil change without changing the filter anyway.
Also I do not think I would let the oil run beyond 5000miles either.
What do you reckon. I do ride the bike out here in Spain all year round. If I was in the UK and the bike was led up for the winter months I would do an oil change as a matter of course come Spring time.
Thoughts please.
Lew

Hi,

I have just received my MFW adjustable footpegs for my gen 1 fazer 1000.
I am having trouble removing the existing ones. as there is a pin going trough the bracket, but I cant work out how to undo the clip securing it underneath,
the Haynes manual shows it as a bolt and nut but that's not on mine, any help greatly appreciated
