  ZX-4 update thread
Posted by: ChristoT - 24-01-14, 10:35 PM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

Well, tomorrow, I retrieve the ZX-4. I fear the worst.

The good news is that water DIDN'T make it into my oil - the milkiness was just condensation (so my mechanic reckons). He also reckons the head gasket is OK!

The BAD news is that the fan is completely fucked. Half the vanes gone, and what's left is partially melted. Might have been something as daft as a blocked pipe. Either way, I won't be happy until I've given the bike a full stripdown and inspection...

The fairing is in a bad way, that will take up a lot of time. Not sure whether to fix it with ABS plastic, carbon fibre (if work let me use it), or just bog standard glass fibre. The rear will need a lot of TLC, and a new screen goes withou saying. The main bastard is going to be finding the parts!

  clutch noise
Posted by: clayt74 - 24-01-14, 04:40 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Hi all, a quick question.
I have just started to notice that after my ride to work(17miles) that as I creep into the carpark, first gear riding the clutch, I can actually hear the clutch rubbing ( for want of a better word, not as harsh as grinding).
It doesn't do it cold and I don't appear to have any clutch slip or problems changing gear.
Is this the first signs of needing a new clutch? Its done about 38k and I believe its the original clutch.
I am due an oil change which I shall try n get done next weekend and see if the prob persists.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Cheers

  FS: FZS600 rear wheel
Posted by: Jamieg285 - 24-01-14, 02:19 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - No Replies

For sale, rear wheel from a box-eye FZS600, but I believe that it will fit the fox-eye as well, and possibly other bikes too.

Generally in good condition, apart from one dent on the rim - see the pictures.  With the tyre off as it is at the moment, it probably won't take too much to straighten it out a bit.  The tyre was sealing properly on the rim, with no leaking.

As pictured, no disc or sprocket carrier.  Bearings look to be in good condition.

Postage is £12, or collect from Luton or Hemel Hempstead.

Open to offers - Proceeds go to the original owner - ChristoT.

Ivanising in May - Who is interested?
Posted by: Falcon 269 - 24-01-14, 08:47 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (13)

Hi everyone,

I am starting to put together a plan for an 'Ivanising' trip over the period 15 - 18 May.

So far I have around 7 names on the list and it looks likely that I will begin on the Thursday in Bournemouth/Portsmouth then move on to Cheshunt before winding up somewhere around Barnsley on Sunday.  I also have owners from Milton Keynes and Stoke to fit in and the final schedule will be tweaked to best accommodate everyone who signs up.

To make the trip viable, I need a minimum of 10 bikes to work on so I'm already close to going firm on this visit.  However, I would like to make an early decision so that I can book flights while they're still reasonably priced.

If you would like to get your Gen 1 'Ivanised' drop me a line by e-mail (not PM, please) ... mikegreatorexAThotmail.com ... and I'll provide you all the information you need on installation options and so on.

To help me with planning routes etc, please include your full name, your postcode and a contact phone number.

First come, first served, so don't delay!  Smile

Cheers,

Mike
