  Steering Head Bottom Bearing
Posted by: Andy1970 - 29-01-17, 07:59 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to share this, which I found in Homebase today. It's a furniture leg, it cost me around four quid and it's exactly the right size to install the bottom head bearing onto the shaft. It had a plastic foot on the bottom which you need to remove, and the top is a metal plate perfect for hitting with a hammer.

It also comes in a variety of colours.  :lol

Andy

Hi all, my name is Dean from Yorkshire, mid forties & always had bikes. Had an 02 Fazer 1000 around 10 years ago & fancy another so i'm looking for a tidy low mileage gen 1 in the Yorkshire area.

  Coolant change gone wrong
Posted by: crussell92 - 29-01-17, 02:16 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Firstly greetings all! A new fazer 1000 owner here, been browsing this forum since owning my fzs1000, and have to say found it very useful.

However, during todays routine maintenance (coolant and oil change) something alarming has happened. On undoing the coolant drain bolt it just snapped off, no problem thought I, ill just take the peice of pipe off and drill it out. So took off the hoses, undid the bolt that holds the pipe into the block and began to take the bit of pipe out. It came out without much of a fight so i assumed all was well.  However it was at this time (when the pipe was half way out) i saw coolant coming out of the sump.

I noticed that behind the gasket is like a brass type tube the bore size of the pipe which i wasn't expecting to be there, it looks like part of the pipe. Having not had a yamaha before im not sure if this is normal. I guess my question is when its all reassembled will it go back to normal?

Im hoping someone can shed some light on this situation, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wanted gen 1 Radiator or place to buy one
Posted by: Graham53 - 28-01-17, 10:41 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (11)

due to a moment of stupidity and frustration with a seized nut I've got a hairline crack in my radiator ( don't ask)
So I'm all set for a new one but all the ads on flea bay are 1 fucked used one or new ones that say they for fz1 FZS 1000 fz1000 06-12 well that ain't confusing much is it.
So does anyone have a decent rad ???
Or ... know where I can get one that I know is for a FZS 1000 ( not Yamaha at £350 )

Thermowax Unit - Idle Problems - Reference Photos
Posted by: Bruce - 28-01-17, 06:23 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Hi Guys

Firstly many thanks for all the advice on the forum, was reading recently about the thermowax unit and quickly realised that this was the reason for my idle problles from a cold start.  Stripped the thermowax unit today and now working perfectly.  The rod was solid in the out position needed a few hits from a pin hammer and 3-1 oil to free it up.  A couple of points (problems) that that I had.

(1)  the righthand screw for the top of the Thermowax unit holds a very small metal bracket that the spring attaches to (the other end of the spring attaches to the throttle body) when I unscrewed the screw the bracket and spring pinged into the bowels of the engine - thank god for telescopic magnets!  (see photo 12 for bracket and spring) :o

(2) the two screws holding the thermowax unit to the bike were solid.  I tapped them free with a cold chisel and pin hammer and replaced the screws.

I took a few photos for reference which I thought may help out anyone else that does this job.

  Bonamici Rear Sets
Posted by: Drax - 28-01-17, 05:37 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - No Replies

Thinking of getting a set of these. Anyone fitted them or got experience of them?

https://www.speedycom.co.uk/shop/product...241&page=2

My bikes an FZ1S ABS - is there anything special required when fitting rearsets to an ABS bike - pressure switch / rear brake light lever etc?

Rizoma are beautiful as is the price & the Gilles is a bit too fancy for me. LSL are on the list but not a lot out there as FZ1's seem to be a forgotten bike these days :\

Thanks in advance

  Carb Idle adjuster difficulty
Posted by: Graham53 - 28-01-17, 05:36 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (17)

i thought I'd have a go at Ivan's TPS adjustment today
However I can't get the idle screw adjuster to set the idle above 1800 rpm  :'( no matter how much I turn it
It will allow me to return back to normal idle speed but when blipping the throttle after the revs sort of hang around a bit at 4000 and drop back slowly.
Anyone got a clue why I can't get the idle above 1800.
