Brake hose length
Posted by: Dudeofrude - 05-03-17, 04:58 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - No Replies

I'm trying to find out the standard length of a gen2 front brake lines if they come straight from the master?
Don't suppose one of you lovely foccers with a gen2 that has standard bars could measure them for me?  Or anyone know the length anyway?
I'm wanting to replace my current ones but I have Rizoma bars that are lower than the stock ones and the lines I have on are way too long but I don't know if they are for the fz1 or not. I don't want to buy another set that are too long haha

FZ1 - rear brake disc bolts, 'mare and solution
Posted by: FZ1obp - 05-03-17, 03:00 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (11)

Needed to change the rear disc on the Gen 2 FZ1 and had been warned that it can be difficult to get the bolts undone.....

So soaked the threads in Plus Gas, froze the bolts (instead of warming the hub) to shrink them down, tapped them with large diameter pin punch to upset them and then tried to undo them...

2 undid ok, 2 T40 heads snapped off flush in the bolt heads and couldn't be removed, the other snapped off but did come out. What to do as the T40 heads are too hard to drill?

So welded M16 nuts to the bold heads and they undid fine with no damage to the hub (serious thermal shock helped). Not sure what else I could have done - may also work for the front discs as I've heard that the whole wheel gets thrown away if they can't get the bolts out.

The design of the bolt heads is wrong - the ratio of the T40 diameter to the bolt diameter means if the bolt is at all seized it's then very likely the T40 will fail - I used reasonably quality T40 heads...

  2006 FZ1 rear brake issue
Posted by: DalesFZ1 - 05-03-17, 02:24 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

Hi All,I have just changed my rear brake pads on my FZ1 and bled the system afterwards. The issue I now have is there is no feel at all in the pedal. When bleeding there was no bubbles in the line at all but after spending a hour on it, it is no better. I have noticed when operating the pedal the caliper moves/rocks from the piston side, is this normal ? as I've only just noticed it after trying to troubleshoot my issue. Both caliper mounting bolts are in and torqued up correctly and I have fitted the shims off the old pads but also tried the pads without them either way doesn't make a difference. Any advice would be a great help.

What do people use to clean them up?  I'm after something that hopefully doesn't include hours of arm ache as my fibromyalgia won't allow for that Sad  Any magic potions out there?
