caught out again
Posted by: downey - 20-05-17, 04:28 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

so on my way back from the nw 200 i had a bit of a spill ,,felt like the back end slipped out from under me , slid across the road barely grazed the back of one car which spun the bike around enough for the handlebars and front fairing and forks to go into and under a 2012 3 series bmw, i came out of it with a swollen ankle which turned out to be a crack either side of my ankle so im layed up with a cast and on crutches for 4-6 weeks :'( ,,i was very lucky to have unfazed with me to carry me the 3+ hours back to cork, with my leg dangling painfully in the wind ,,the more ive thought about it ive come to the conclusion that i dipped it too low and the left crash bung dug in and sent me sliding ,"i always thought they came out a bit too far" ive often rubbed the right one on a roundabout ,,anyway insurance will be taking care of the third party damage as its a lot more costly than it looks :rolleyes oh well thats what its there for i suppose ,,so the bike is in the shed till i decide what to do about it ,,at a glance new forks.bars fairing/lights, infills and break disc,,
to try cheer myself up and give myself something to look forward to ive put a deposit on a05 fazer in the uk which will involve a road trip in a few weeks .

  help needed pls
Posted by: Ballbags - 20-05-17, 02:56 PM - Forum: Fazer 400 and other models - Replies (10)

Hi all I'm new to this forum and could do with some help
I recently bought a 400 fazer as a non running project.
I didn't realise that it wasn't 100% complete because the dodgy little toad that sold it was less than honest in his eBay description,he also said he had it started briefly with easy start.
so I get the bike delivered and in no time at all I realise that there is no spark (must of been that self sparking easy start that he used to get it running)
traced the fault to a broken wire cleaned carbs out and she starts with normal easy start.
I've now got a issue with the tps sensor I had a go at reseting it and couldn't get it to 5k revs so completely removed the screws holding it in place and turned it about 2 or 3 ml past the bolt holes and got 5k revs. I've widened the holes on the sensor as a quick fix to get the bike started,is this safe also would a new tps fix the issue? if so would one from a 600 do the job as 400 parts are as I'm finding out a pain in the arse to find.
When started the bike revs rediculsly high then settles down to around 3k is this related to the tps sensor ?
A couple more things, all fuel lines have been removed and I don't seem to have a fuel pump,if needed again could I use a 600 pump?
lastly is there a diagram of what fuel lines go where
Like I said I could really use your help as I'm new to motorcycle mechanics,so any help/advice will be hugely appreciated  :'(

Has any one fitted spot lights on FZ8. I want to fit them. Wonder if it would be okay to fit on the side plates of the radiator.

  oil consumption
Posted by: sc0ttie - 19-05-17, 09:28 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (16)

Been reading that owners "top up " their engine oil between recommended oil changes. I've never topped mine up in between changes, didn't think I had to.I could never see my oil level in the engine cover window, even when it had it's last service by the garage in September, the window seems too discolored to tell. I watched them change the oil and filter though so I know it was done. The oil light has never come on. The bike runs fine. Should I be worried about topping it up?

  Keeping bike kit in garage.
Posted by: slappy - 19-05-17, 04:06 PM - Forum: General - Replies (18)

I am thinking about keeping my bike kit in the garage.
It is one of those precast concrete ones and what concerns me is condensation and damp.
Does anyone else keep their kit in a garage and if so what do you store it in?
Bear in mind I am a Scot living in Yorkshire, being careful with my money is not a trait it is a vocation. Smile
