I have been reading the topic on smooth clutch changes and am considering drilling the holes to get more oil to the middle of my stack. I have a new set of friction plates. Would it make sense to change steel plates and springs while I am at it? The bike has done 98,000 miles. It does not slip but it does seem to drag a bit when hot.

Hiya[size=1.35em]Hiya [/size][size=1.35em]Got an issue with one indicator intermittently not working while the front panel instrument goes bananas, showing full tank, wrong indicator flashing (actually solid) and other anomalies. Traced it to one loose fitting wire in the female section of the terminal block (black-coloured wire in pics).  Looks like the plastic around that wire is burnt and I assume this means the whole block will need replacing rather than just the end pin on that black wire?

Anyhow, just looking for suggestions as to where to find the appropriate block. [/size]Maybe B&Q?

[size=1.35em]I'm not that confident with pressing new pins onto wires so, if I'm going to fix it myself, it will ideally need to be a block with screws. Will cut all the wires in the female section of the block and fit them into the new (screw) terminal individually. 

[/size][size=1.35em]The far more expensive option is to get a shop to do it of course, although cheaper than me frying the whole bike [/size][size=1.35em] [/size]

Watcha, I'm Charlie, 62 years old (how the hell did that happen?) had bikes most of my life but due to arthritis in my right shoulder, I've just acquired a 2003 Foxeye 600 in the hope that the more upright riding position might be a little less agony inducing.


The bike was being offered for sale in the same town as myself (Wellington, Somerset) so I think that locality played a large part in my purchasing decision which in turn blinded me somewhat to the mess the flippin' thing was in.
Put a spanner in my hand and disasters are never far behind, I'm much more at home playing guitar or building computers but needs dictated, so I jumped in at the deep end.


So....fork dust seals replaced, front wheel sprayed, upgraded speedo rotor fitted (old one was shattered), chain and sprockets replaced with upgraded front sprocket nut fitted (such fun taking the old one off single handed....not!), old rusty manifold nuts replaced with stainless domes, new EBC pads all round, new oil, plugs and filters and endless hours of grime removal (the grease monster I discovered inside the front sprocket cover was indeed a sight to behold....see below).


Only two major cockups along the way, forgot to grease up the new speedo rotor so first test ride produced a screaming noise from the front wheel somewhat akin to a pig being murdered and I also routed the speedo cable incorrectly which resulted in the disc wearing through it, quite entertaining seeing the speedo registering over 160mph whilst crawling round Somerset lanes doing no more than 30 though!


Still need to sort out a few bits of graunchy bodywork but I'm almost there and I must say I love the bike. Really nippy when needed, fabulous brakes, half decent wind protection, slightly kinder to my knackered shoulder and the thing just loves the twisties, in all my 45 plus years of riding I've never known a machine so confidence inspiring when cornering, I'm never going to scrape the footpegs but at least my chicken strips are no longer deeply embarrassing.


Anyhoo, nice to meet you all. I'm sure this site will prove to be an invaluable resource as more problems rear their ugly heads!











 

Decided to do an oil change on the old girl a couple of days ago, so after a long brisk ride when returning home with engine very hot
(Ride and 28C temperature)
I drained the oil out and spun the oil filter off, new alloy washer on the drain plug, lubed the new filter rubber seal spun it back on.

Bollocks only car oil in the shed and about 1Ltr of Shell Advanced 4T Motorcycle Oil, 7-30pm garages shut put bike away.

I made a couple of phone calls to local motorcycle shops the next morning, one which will remain nameless quoted £70-49 for 4 Liters of Motul Fully Synthetic 10-40, WTF!.  :eek
When I questioned them about that price I was told it was a premium oil that all the best race teams use. So I ordered 5 X 4 Liter cans, actually I hung up.
I then phoned up A Force Motor Cycles of Aldershot and purchased my usual tipple for the old girl 'Shell Advanced 4T synthetic @ £35 for 4 Ltrs, now I would love to know how much better Motol Oil over Shell Advanced?.

I wont name the garage that wanted to charge me double for 4 Ltrs of oil, no I am not being generous toward them its just that I might be stuck and need them in the future LOL :lol

Now I am one of those sad sods that likes to keep a record of all the work I have done on the bike, dates, mileages etc, so opening up my Yammy maintenance book I notice when recording mileage that I had in fact only done 2,300 miles since the previous oil & filter change, looking back I did the last change on 17/03/15 but hardly rode the bike that year because of a very ill and final loss of my Mum-in Law
(Now no Mother-In-Law jokes :lol ) She was a great old lady.
So what is the most anyone has been asked for [size=1em]by a suppler for 4 Ltrs Of 4T Motorcycle Oil ? Synthetic or Semi Synthetic.[/size]

Looking for a lowish mileage fzs1000.... Anyone got anything??

Hey. I'm Brian and from Birmingham. I'm 26 and have just bought a fzs600.
She is my upgrade from a ybr125.

She is a 2000 that needs a little tlc before I finally get her on the roads next month.

Hello all,

My name is Adam and I have just purchased a 2007 FZ6 S2 ABS in Lava Red. I'm 28 and passed my MOD2 test on Thursday last week, so this is my first 'Big Bike' 

Very excited to pick it up on Saturday and look forward to using this forum to learn more about the bike!
