  Fazer 1000 replacement advice
Posted by: JD-LincsUK - 25-08-17, 09:40 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (10)

Hi Guys and Gals.

I've had my gen 1 Fazer thou for about 3 years now, and I think it's the best bike I have had. The problem is that I am getting on a bit, and I have bad osteo-arthritis in my knees, as well as a double slipped disc. Being sat on a bike is one of the most comfy places for me to be - but off the bike (i.e. pushing/parking and getting on/off it) is something of a nightmare, even though it's the only bike I've had that I haven't dropped when getting off it.

So I will very reluctantly soon be advertising it here for sale - or exchange. The problem is, I don't know what to replace it with. Preferably a bit lighter, or weight a bit lower. Lower seat would be good. I'm into retro stuff - loved my old Zephyr 750 and do like the old Bandits, but I have zero idea about recent bikes - i.e. the last ten year's worth. I really dislike the styling of modern bikes, with stubby rear ends and poxy pillion pads.

I can't think of anything that would be a good replacement, so I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas. I don't know about a 600 Fazer - looks like the weight is quite high on them. I would really prefer a larger engine - 750 or up. I like to slot it in gear and be able to leave it there for long periods (a la Zephyr - or Fazer thou, Smile  ). It can't be too new - cos I don't have much cash. I can go investigating any suggestions and maybe we can come up with a suitable alternative together Smile

Thanks

Anyone splashed out the £20 to watch the fight on telly?

Any predictions?

I reckon Mayweather to win in the third.

  Who wants some free tyres?
Posted by: BBROWN1664 - 25-08-17, 03:15 PM - Forum: General - Replies (20)

I have just received the following email from one of the BIG tyre manufacturers. (I highlighted the bit that probably important)

Every now and then in the UK we get the opportunity to trial some early sets of tyres that are not yet part of the Michelin product range.  Although they are the finished mass production product, not prototypes, the final development stage of the tyres is feedback from the normal tyre buying public, seeing how the tyres are received and perceptions of their performance from ordinary riders free from influence and bias.  This ideally also acts as a teaser for the wider public, alerting potential buyers to a new product and allowing for an independent and non biased review of them.
Your forum is a large, popular and well respected site, and we thought that you would be in a great position to possibly help us with this at some stage.  What we would suggest would be sending a pair of tyres for a forum member to try out.  They could be a popular and respected regular contributor, someone that tends to offer accurate reviews of kit and parts, or even yourself!  They don’t need to be tyre experts, but someone that racks up a lot of miles would probably be best.  What we would expect in return for the free set of tyres would be at least 3 reasonably detailed posts about the tyres, perhaps an early days report on their initial impressions, a second report once they’ve been used in the wet or different conditions, and a follow up or conclusion, with permission for us to use any images and quotes in our advertising.
If you’d be interested in helping with this we’d like to hear from you, and as and when we get any appropriate opportunities we’ll be back in touch.

  05 FZS 1000 catalytic converters

Hi, I have a 05 model which I believe has a cat fitted.  05 was the only  year that one was fitted and a change to the ECU.
I am told it is fitted in the down tubes as the 4 go in 1 where the link pipe fits. I am told it is small and very simple design with no lampbard sensor fitted.
My bike is a American import but again all 05 have the cat fitted, so they should  be no difference.
Looked in the Haynes manual but there is no mention of it, does any one know any thing about them? Are they worth taking out?can they be taken out?how easy is it to do? What is changed in the ECU? Will they be a power difference?

  New to the club.

Hi,
I've just joined the club after realising most of the questions I ask Google, regarding my recently purchased 2000 FZS600, are answered by you guys.
Got back into biking last September with the purchase of my Yam. Owned a few previously and still have a partially dismantled 350LC in my Dad's shed (moving it back to mine soon, honest..)
Last (working) bike was a 1150R which I had for a few years, but glad to be back on a Jap bike again (never really got used to the weird controls on the beemer).
Hope to be posting some questions (and hopefully answering a few) soon.
