  Would you buy a Category "N" Write-off ?
Posted by: focced_off - 14-03-18, 02:00 PM - Forum: General - Replies (9)

Hello guys,

So running a new Vehicle check and my 'accident damaged' Fazer now shows as a Cat N.
Category N is the new Category D - the LEAST serious category, cosmetic damage only, NOT structural.

I know reading the words "write-off" sends a shiver down your spine, plus 'bike looping through the air over a car several times', kind of visions.  :eek  :lol

It was nothing like that, plus am already sourcing the Parts to get the bike back on the road - to RIDE (not to sell on)... Only front forks got bent / headlight / nose fairing cracked.

What's the legal process with a Cat "N", and putting it back onto the road (legally) - can anyone in the Trade confirm please?
On a sports bike this would be just a few pieces of fairing and she's as good as new!

  Long time no bike
Posted by: IffyBiker - 14-03-18, 09:43 AM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (11)

It is 20 years since I last rode a bike (GS 550). Looking to get back into it and thoughts on a FZS600 2001-2003 as a comeback model? Others considered were a hornet but veering towards the FZS.
Pros and cons appreciated

  DID VX chain rivet
Posted by: shieldr - 13-03-18, 08:24 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (12)

Hi, do I need a special did rivet pin to fit a did vx chain rivet? I will get verniers in it tomorrow but to be honest I don’t think there has been much movement.
I noticed there wasn’t too Much displacement on the pin heads when I nipped them up last week.  I then checked the did pdf sheet on line and it states this special rivet pin must be used. The did tool is very expensive on eBay.

The standard tool that I used appeared a bit damaged after use, see photo.

  Carburetor Spring
Posted by: adasilva - 12-03-18, 12:20 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (27)

Hi all.
I need to know if this is an issue or not.
Recently i had a stick throttle and i tried to adjust the slack in the carb and in the handle bar but could not get it to work. I checked to see if the handle bar end was the issue as i read somewhere that it might be sticking on the handle bar ends but that was not the issue. I lubed the cables and check for tears and could not find any.
What i noticed was that there were so much dirty on the outside of the carburetors and the springs were covered with it.
I removed the carbs as in needed to change the carb rubber boots and clean them. The carbs insides were not too bad but outside the were so much S___t and the throttle spring was full of it.
I made a good progress and the carbs now look great.
But i have tried to open the carb vents by pushing the spring but when i let it go it stays in place with the vents open. I have lubed the springs again after the cleaning but still the same.
This is my first time getting my hands dirty in removing carbs and cleaning them. So wondering if this is a normal thing or should the spring snap back when i let them go and close the vents.

Cheers
adasilva

  Oil Filter Wrench
Posted by: MikeBike - 10-03-18, 09:44 AM - Forum: General - Replies (17)

Hello Guys.
I´ve bought a used FZS 600 1998-1999. No tool kit was on the bike. I wish to buy an oil filter wrench. There are some universal on ebay or amazon but I am not sure if they work. Can you suggest me one and also tell me if you know, what´s the diameter for the filter? I ve seen a cheap one that is for 65mm diameter filter. Is it the filter this size?
Thanks
Miguel
