  Fazers as art
Posted by: NorthWestern - 17-10-18, 01:19 PM - Forum: General - Replies (10)

I ran some pictures of my (old) Fazer through an AI programme developed by Google (Deep Dream).  Here is what it produced.

Some stylised images:

Apparently it sees a lot of wolf/canine in the image...  An eye on the top box?  The background trees/bushes look great, im sure I see a Chinese Dragon in the lower right bit above the grass...!

  Basic Electrical Theory
Posted by: His Dudeness - 16-10-18, 10:39 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (10)

I think understanding electrics is the hardest part of diy mechanics so a thread on basic electrical theory might be useful for people Wink To get a good understanding of the basic theory I’d recommend reading chapter one of this site https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/textboo...t-current/

Here’s my quick explanation of Voltage, Current and Resistance. To understand electrics you have to look at the atom. Atoms have positively charged protons at their centre in the nucleus and negatively charged electrons orbiting around the outside of the nucleus. This is shown below in an atom of Copper

The Protons are held in the nucleus with a lot of force. The electrons orbit around the outside of the nucleus and are held with far less force. This means that electrons can move from one atom to another atom. Since the electron has a negative charge the atom that loses the electron becomes relatively more positively charged and the atom that gains the electron becomes more negatively charged.

In nature atoms want to be in a Neutral state meaning that they want to have an equal number of positive protons and negative electrons. Because of this when one atom is positively charged from losing an electron and the other atom is negatively charged from gaining an electron a force is created between the two atoms that attracts the atoms together. This “pushing” force is called Voltage. So Voltage is a force that is caused by a difference in electrical charge between two points and it’s caused by one point being more negatively charged and the other point being more positively charged. A battery creates this difference in charge through a chemical reaction. The negative side of the battery has an excess of negative electrons and the positive side of the battery has a lack of electrons so a Voltage “pushing force” is created between the two points.

When a conductor is applied between the positive and negative points of the battery a Current flows. Current is the continuous, uniform flow of electrons through a conductor caused by a Voltage “pushing” electrons from the negative side to the positive side.
A conductor is a material that allows electricity through it easily. Conductors allow electricity to flow easily because they have a single electron in the most outer orbit of their atom that they lose easily, called a free electron. Here is a short video on copper that explains how conductors work ! No longer available

Resistance is opposition to the flow of current. Resistance is caused by collisions between the electrons and the atoms. Higher resistance means more collisions. Collisions cause the atoms to gain energy and vibrate this energy is given off in the form of heat energy. In some materials no electrons are free to move so no current flows these are insulators.

This is an excellent video that explains everything that I typed. Definitely watch it ! No longer available

I'm a newb to electrics but I think what I wrote is correct and might be useful to other newbs. I'll do another post on basic circuits and Voltage drop. Then on reading wiring diagrams and how the electrical components on a bike work. Once you get your head around the basics the rest becomes clear.

  Std exhaust silencer weight
Posted by: 74eldiablo - 16-10-18, 08:42 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (43)

Yesterday i took delivery of a micron shorty slip on with link pipe, having took off the original silencer i couldnt beleive how much weight was in that thing  :eek a simple test in hands was unbeleivable, so for people who still have the std can on ditch it and get another the weight savings are definately worth it.
I think the centre stand is also coming off as apart from oiling the chain it's just a big chunk off metal and reducing the weight even by a kilo or two will help with the bikes handling

Wanted - Standard Gen 1 Handlebars
Posted by: Falcon 269 - 15-10-18, 04:01 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (21)

Now there's a thread title you never thought you'd see ...  :lol
However, I'm asking because the Spanish MOT-equivalent test regs have changed yet again (doh!!) since May this year and it now appears that they will only test a vehicle that appears to be completely standard.  Any aftermarket parts will only be considered if you can provide EU-type approval documentation for them.

It doesn't matter that a vehicle has previously passed import tech inspection - as was the case with my much-modded Fazer - the new regulations apply retrospectively.  My mate, Dave, was refused a test for his '04 Gen 1 this afternoon and between us we are having to acquire the parts needed to put the bikes in standard trim for the bi-annual tests.

Mine is pretty much stock now and I have it arranged so that I can swap out the non-standard parts (indicators, end can, levers and screen) in an hour or so.  Seems I'll now have to change bars (Renthals technically aren't for road use, so no EU-type approval) which is why I need an original set to fit when the time comes around.  I will probably have to lose the R1 radial front brake master cylinder and the Armstrong wavy discs, too.  Grrrr ... bloody Spanish bureaucrats!
Anyway, back to the point, has anyone got a set of original bars they would like to sell, please?  I'll be back in the UK a couple of times before December so would be looking to have them posted to our UK address.
Cheers!
Mike

  horn faulty
Posted by: MikeBike - 14-10-18, 10:45 PM - Forum: General - Replies (17)

Hello Guys.I have a FZS 600 1998-99.My bikes horn is a bit faulty. The horn itself works, but i need to try different ways of pressing the switch for it to actually works. I mean, if I need to give it a slight , rapid  touch for example to alert other drivers, it doesn´t work. Only after I try different pressing points and different amount of "force" on the switch  I manage to make it work.Do you experience this? What´s the issue?
ThanksMike
