  gear link rod ends
Posted by: butthead - 14-10-18, 05:48 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (15)

hi guys , anyone help with this.
i get very stodgy action from the gear changes following wet riding. figured out that the nylon ball socket on the ends of the gear change ink rod have ceased to self lbe and have become dry. i can temprarily lube with GT85 , cures it fine until next wet ride.
ideally i need to change these , i dont know if thats possible or if you have to change the whole gear change assy , these are £239 new or you can pick up second hand ones £25 ebay but these are likely similar age to mine and likely suffer the same issue.

im guessing its a nylon socket on the ends of the link rod that are a press fit at manufacture and are not something that can be changed without the whole assy?
any confirmation on this ?

I am Fazer, hear me roar.

... well, eventually. Wink
Hi all,
It's been a while since I've posted and - confession time - even longer since I've ridden the Fazer.  Well, ridden anything apart from a golf buggy and an electric bike, to be honest. Smile
As some may recall, the Soup Dragon and I have been touring Europe for a large part of the year in our motorhome and when we've been home in Spain during the summer months, it's been just too hot to ride.  As a result, the mighty Thou has stood silent for months both this year and last. Sad

Having had to deal with blocked pilot jets after last year's lengthy lay-up, I thought this year I'd preempt that issue by draining the carbs instead.  Mistake.  It might be fine on a newer bike but on an older one like mine, leaving the carbs empty for 6 months caused the float needle seat O-rings and one float bowl gasket to completely dry out.  The motor started fine but within minutes fuel was leaking from all over the place under the carbs.  Luckily I had spare parts to hand but on balance, it would have been easier to simply clean blocked pilot jets than fix the leaks.  Lesson learned for next year.
Typically, the moment the mighty Thou fired up leak-free and ready to roll, the heavens opened and stopped play for the day.

Oh, well ... after 6 months, I suppose another day or two won't make that much difference. Smile

Cheers, all!
Mike
PS.  I have been visiting the forum regularly but hate 'typing' on a tablet, which is why I haven't posted much while we've been travelling.  I'm lurking, though ... Wink

Anybody think Danny Kent will do any good in BSB ?I hope so,surely you don't become world champion in a red hot class by default !I hope this is where everything finally comes together,he's still only 24 but seems to have been around for much longer.

sorry to ask this question guys
Posted by: 74eldiablo - 13-10-18, 08:24 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

HiSo i've tried the search function and its not really come up with any of my symptoms, so i gotta take the plunge and ask some hardened fazerheads.
When i bought the bike i noticed a vibration on the bikini fairing whilst doing maybe 30mph there is like a funny whirring sound, as i accelerate up to motorway speeds 70 - 80 mph i can feel the vibes really strongly through the tank, i can literally play a tune with my knees Smile
holding my knees close to the tank slightly takes the vibes away. but it is still annoying.I lifted off the tank and noticed some foam on the underside that looked worn so i will replace this as soon as i can, are there any mods i can do whilst the tank is off ?? and where can i get the foamy shizz??
I really dont want to start taking off the fairing and adding rubber washers/grommets only to find its still there.
any ideas, go easy on a new forum user, probably doing a done to death question, its my only major gripe with the bike
thanks

  hello peeps
Posted by: 74eldiablo - 13-10-18, 08:04 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (2)

just thought id say hello, recently bought a fazer after owning a VTR1000 firestorm for a month, it was a nice bike but really thirsty and hurt my wrists so picked up a 2001 carbed model with 31k.
i've been riding bikes since 14 years old, had a few decent road bikes best being a kawasaki zx10r c2h beast, but got married and had kids so i have been out of the saddle for 10 years, but glad to be back riding again.
i like the fun factor of the fazer, will probably be asking some questions, but will try the search function.
im picking up good vibrations around 6k through everything, which is a lot annoying, and the soggy saddlebags suspension needs fixing pronto as everything is on max preload and still way too soft.
but im happy with it

  sprocket and stuff
Posted by: coffee - 12-10-18, 10:22 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (22)

Got around to putting on some cush drive rubbers and a gearbox sprocket, well, got as far as back wheel out and sprocket cover etc off then noted the size of the nut, 36mm ! none of my stuff came close so waiting for a socket off E/bay only £8 with p&p but thought I'd got a pretty extensive toolkit, obviously not. Not sure if its nostalgia, boy's toys, aversion to walking uphill or just novelty value................but I really fancy one of these.
