  Speedo not working
Posted by: midden - 27-04-19, 08:07 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - No Replies

front end strip fairing, forks, yokes speedo off, connector blocks under left infill disconnected and tank off.

Put it back together and mot'd,  however, the speedo isn't working.  The rev counter is working.

There is just the one plug in to the clock cluster?  I can't see any other leads unaccounted for.

Any ideas what the problem could be, apart from me of course Wink

  Tweaking suspension when fully-loaded
Posted by: roxburd - 27-04-19, 07:26 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

Hey all,

The little Yamaha manual is pretty good on describing where the suspension controls are and how to adjust them. But it says bugger-all about what adjustments you should be looking to make for different loads.

I don't usually bother adjusting the suspension at all as it's either just me (~80Kg) or me + light luggage or me + pillion for short trips and I've never felt it warranted messing with the set-up.

But I'm planning a long trip two-up fully loaded and I'm thinking that's gotta be worth a tweak on the rear pre-load at least (as that's where most of the load will be).

But I'm not sure what else if anything is likely to need adjusting.

Front pre-load - yeah, I guess so, to firm the front up a bit, especially under braking?

Front & rear compression - maybe? Especially on the front to firm it up under braking again?

Front & rear rebound - really don't know why that would be needed!

Any advice? Any recommendations for step-by-step guides?

Cheers,
Dave

  Fzs600 Vs Thundercat Q's
Posted by: Mike01 - 27-04-19, 07:17 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Hi all.
Been a while since I sold my Fz1, still got the Tiger sport and have had a second bike for a while. Currently it's an SV1000n but I can't get on with it...

I have been offered a deal on a 99 cat, had the gearbox rebuilt recently, Dyno jet carbs progressive springs and R6shock. 22k miles 2 owners...
Also looking at a 99 box eye, I have had one so I know I will get on with it.

Anyway my question to you guys as I know in the past many of you have had or at least ridden cats is what are they like to ride. Pegs too far back will be an issue for my knee, long reach to clip on bars? I don't expect it to be super comfy but don't want a bent over sports feel...

The bike in question is too far away just to go for a look, Thought I would try you guys for some info  :thumbup

Cheers.

WANTED fzs600 radiator in working condition
Posted by: hopefiendboy - 27-04-19, 05:28 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (2)

Hi all

After my thread about the broken radiator pipe my attempt to fix it with JB Weld was not successful once the bike heated up. I am now therefore looking for a replacement radiator for the bike which is a year 2000 fzs600. Let me know if you have anything!
Cheers!Paul

New Chain Time = Sprockets too ?
Posted by: fazersharp - 27-04-19, 10:46 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (133)

Chain and sprockets are OEM and 21 years old but only done 22k miles.
I have a tight spot on the chain that I have tried to free up last year but its still there and I can hear it and feel it through the peg. I have just had an mot and got the chap to look at my rear sprocket as I wanted a second opinion, he had a good look and said he does not think it needs changing but pointed out some chain wear.
I know some say change sprockets at the same time but the rear at least looks fine to me. Pictures attached.
Also I want to fit a continuous chain and want an x ring D.I.D  but confused as to if they come as continuous. Here  https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcy...eview_9179

First one is before I cleaned the area being photographed.
I will post some of the front sprocket later when I get the cover off

Givi mounting racks - any recommendations please?
Posted by: roxburd - 27-04-19, 09:58 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (17)

We're off on a tour soon and as we're two-up I really need to get my old 36 litre Monokey Givi panniers mounted on the Fazer (2001 FXS 1000). I really didn't think it would be difficult. Expensive maybe, but not difficult...

I did a bit of research and it looks like there's no way to mount my old Wingrack which would have been ideal but there we go.

So a couple of weeks back I ordered the side rack (PL348) from www.modulemoto.co.uk. The side-rack blurb says it must be fitted with the top rack (348FZ) so I ordered that and a top plate (M7) from www.motocard.com

All's good.

Then, yesterday, I emailed ModuleMoto to find out when the rack will arrive and they said "Oh, we don't stock them any more"... what's more, I can't find one anywhere on the web (that will ship to the UK).

So, I have a top rack and top plate on the way (which I only ordered because the side-rack PL348 requires them) but no side-rack and no way to mount my panniers on the bike!!

Does anyone know of any way to side-mount Monokey panniers on the 2001 FZS 1000?

Thanks!!

The PL349 rack seems to still be available but it looks like it doesn't fit the 2001 model. Anyone know if it can be modified to fit?

I would ask Givi but they have convinced me that they know nothing about their own products.

Intermittent fault. Bike won't rev past 6000rpm
Posted by: robbo - 26-04-19, 09:20 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (22)

This fault first occurred last November. Performing an overtake the bike felt like it had hit the limiter, but with only 6000rpm on the clock. A tad disconcerting to say the least. My first thought was a blocked tank breather, but popping the filler cap didn't solve the problem. I searched through the forum posts and only came across one with very similar/same symptoms. Sadly that bike didn't get fixed over a 6 month period, and the owner gave up on Fazer ownership. I did the relevant TPS checks which proved ok. Although the Pipercross air filter was only 2 years old I replaced it with a new one, a spare is always handy. On riding the bike, the fault was gone.
Wind the clock forward to last Sunday on a breakfast run, full tank of my usual 97 octane, about 30 miles into the ride the bikes pulling like a train. Accelerating out of a roundabout onto a dual carriageway.......the faults back, 6000rpm the involuntary limiter is hit, change up runs fine to 6k then same again. Pull into first layby, pop the tank cap, no rush of air. The fault persists all the way home, even after an hours stop. Change the fuel filter and check that nothings been sucked into the air filter. A quick whizz up the road, bike runs ok, Today did just over 150  miles of mixed riding, with plenty at high revs, bike ran perfectly. I'm not convinced the fuel filter was the culprit as cutting the old one in half revealed nothing untoward.
When the fault manifests itself it happens bang on 6000rpm in any gear, but revs as it should with the clutch in or in neutral. I was told the ability to rev freely in neutral proves the TPS is ok, but don't know if this is true. Obviously no rev counter fault codes are displayed. Naturally a degree of lack of confidence in overtake situations now exists. The one thing that I will try if/when there's a next time, is to not touch the bike, just ride it the following day to see if the fault persists which might prove if it's possibly heat related. Thinking caps on people, answers on a postcard to......  .Thanks in anticipation of some suggestions.

rear brake - how much lever play before it bites?
Posted by: Mike1962 - 26-04-19, 08:48 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

Hi

I'm still only a few hundred miles into my new (2002) fazer.  It's a really clean (looks brand new) machine and has  been very well looked after.  I'm totally new to the breed so this might be a naive question but...........

When in general traffic the rear brake is perfectly fine (ish) but I do feel that my foot has lots of travel before I feel a bite on the disc.  If travelling at say 60mph + and need some extra assistance when braking I feel the extra long travel together with the 'woolly' feel is a little uninspiring.

I've read a few threads........  but would like some opinions as to next steps.......

A  Bleed system
B  replace pads (not looked at wear yet)
C  replace with a blue spot rear
D  any combination of the above

let me know your thoughts
