hi all I am new to this site and after some advice/help please. I am looking at an fzs1000 for sale. It cannot be confirmed by the owner if it has had its 24000 mile service which means it will need to be done. It’s just done 24000 miles and is up for £2400 with history (allegedly). Firstly is it worth the money, it’s in nice condition, secondly can anyone help me with the service as I know it’s a big one, thanks in advance?
The 24000 mile service includes things that really shouldn't need doing.
Head bearings greased and checked, same with swing arm, chain check and adjust, brakes and fluids etc etc.
A lot of it is stuff that should be done regular anyway.
When I take my Fazer 8 I change oil and filter before it goes and all they do is strip, check valve clearance and rebuild with new plugs and tb balance.
Drop it off Friday night pick it up Saturday afternoon.
That said if you are buying it, it might be worth having a full dealer service so you know that you are starting with a good, well serviced bike.

If the valve check is due and it’s not been done then that’s a good bargaining chip.
Price on bikes this old, I figure is almost purely dependant on condition.
As Pieeater says check the EXUP valve, if it’s present and working that is one indicator the the bike is looked after. If the OE is shock is still in there (it was never much good) – budget for a replacement – so another bargaining chip.
If the owner can demonstrate that it’s been Ivanised – a lot have – that’s a bonus.
I bought mine new in 2004. It got the valve check at 30,000 miles – no adjustment required.
Good luck.
In all honesty I've never needed any clearances changed even on bikes with over 130000 miles on them but I still have them checked just in case.

I checked the valves on my bike at 36000, loads of them were out.

I check mine on the 1000 and 600 religiously at the 24000 mark. The 1000 had 8 out of spec where as the 600 were al within spec. At the 48000 mile mark the 1000 was fine but the 600 had 5 out of spec. At 72000 on the 600 all were within spec. My advice is to check them at the recommended intervals as you will not know from listening to the engine if clearances are tight. The old adage "Loose tappet annoys the rider , tight tappets annoys the engine" It will give you peace of mind also knowing everything is fine.
