  Nothing... dead as a dodo
Posted by: Tefer - 19-06-19, 04:34 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (13)

Hi Guys,

I am at a bit of a loss.

I was away Friday to Saturday last week on a Stena Bikes Onboard event. The Friday night and Saturday morning were wet, really wet. I got up Saturday morning and tried to start the FZS1000, it was not keen but a little choke and we were away. I boarded the ferry and we arrived in NI, I stopped after disembark to fix gloves and get Sat Nav set up turned on my lights and the dash went off. It restarted and the check lights came on thought it was weird and trued to repeat and it did it again. The bike was still running. We set off and all looked fine, i had to hit the pass light (High Beam flash) and the dash went blank again with check lights, this was only 10 mins after leaving the ferry. We had been riding around 30 mins and i tried the pass light again, nothing happened, so all was good for the rest of the day.

After a really wet trip the bike was put away in the garage and never thought about again until Monday for a wash. I started washing the bike (no pressure washer, just garden hose), gave it a good clean and all was good. I started the bike and it was running for a minute and i thought i would check the pass light to see all was ok. Well this time dash went off and bike cut out, there is now no lights on the dash.

When you turn the ignition there is nothing no lights, no priming of the fuel pump absolutely Zero.

I have checked and Battery is charged and holding 12.76 volts. The main fuse is OK (tested with multimeter), the fuses in the box for lights and that look ok (not tested individually only visual inspection). The earthing has been checked and looks ok.

Can anyone hold my hand through some other checks to determine where the problem lies? I am thinking ignition problem but have no idea how to check this. I have sprayed every connector block with WD40 to try and drive out moisture but still nothing.

My electrical knowledge is not great but i have a meter and if told were to check i will.

Cheers

  Replacing footpegs
Posted by: MikeBike - 19-06-19, 03:30 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (1)

Hello guys.I have a FZS600 1998-1999 and need to replce the rider´s right footpeg.I ve seen some tutorials on youtube, and most footrests have either a coter pin or a U shaped o-ring to be removed  to remove the bolt. However my bike has none of those. There are some videos where bolt is cut with a saw. Is that the way to do it?
Also, are there any videos or tutorials on how to replace the brakes pads on this model?ThanksMiguel

Hi, am after a Haynes manual for my 2003 FZS600. If you have one up for grabs that would be appreciated. Apologies if I don`t respond straight away but I`m taking the trusty steed for a tour around Scotland (from Bristol) tomorrow but will be back next week. Thanks, Guy.

  Raised Handlebars advice
Posted by: Qutuz - 19-06-19, 01:01 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (12)

Hi all, i am new to the forum, i have just passed my mod2 and after a lot of reading decided to purchase a 1999 Fazer 600 as my first big bike. i done most of my training on a XJ600 Diversion.

The Fazer i have purchased is in brilliant condition and running order however the previous owner replaced the handlebars with Renthal 758 Ultra lows.

I much prefer a more upright riding position and would like to ask what the best remedy for this would be ? i have seen some Rental 756 highs which i can get hold of or i was thinking of adding some raisers to my current setup, or maybe something else? any advice welcome, thanks.

Ear plugs - recommendations??? Minerva any good???
Posted by: roxburd - 17-06-19, 10:48 AM - Forum: General - Replies (19)

Test rode a Thruxton on Saturday - 3 hours across Essex and Suffolk. Superb. Want one.

But after the ride my ears were RINGING. So I've decided I can't get one until I've found some hearing protection that works (which means another test ride :-)
I was using the same old disposable yellow foam plugs I've been using for decades but the extra wind noise (from having no fairing, I guess) was too much for them.

I'm looking at getting the Minerva custom-made BikePlugs at £115 fitted and supplied through SpecSavers - reviews? recommendations?

Cheers,
Dave

  TPS Adjustment with aftermarket clocks
Posted by: Riggerlee88 - 17-06-19, 10:41 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Hi All,

I am currently rebuilding my carbs and have been looking at the "carb balance sequence" my concern is the TPS adjustment as I have fitted Koso DB-02r dials; has anyone performed this with aftermarket dials will they show the RPM feedback original clocks will show (0,5,10K)? if not is there another way I can adjust and record the feedback or should I leave the sensor well alone?

Cheers

  Carburetor quandary!
Posted by: Gabrael72 - 16-06-19, 09:58 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (16)

Hi foccers, I'm in need of your combined wisdom.
Recently experienced problems with number 1 cylinder not firing, got fuel, got spark, drained bowls and found crap in the fuel. Removed carbs, cleaned all diaphragms (no holes or kinks) cleaned bowls, cleaned all jets, reassembled and ran, bike fired on all 4 (hooray,) started next morning and back to 3 cylinders getting hot, this time number 1 was fine but number 4 not hot now, have I missed something?
I know I need to get new bowl rubbers as I can see one of the bowls weeping a little (any advice on reliable seals?)
It's got me baffled?

  SOLD - FZS1000 for sale - Cambs.
Posted by: Captain Haddock - 15-06-19, 07:13 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (2)

Half arsed ad coming up.....
2003 FZS1000 for sale, 22,532 miles on the clock, silver (yes I know it's not the most exciting colour).
Has R6 shock mod, ivanised carbs, multi-gauge fitted, 4 degree ignition advancer fitted (original included), SP end can fitted (good original end can included), AIS removed (included).
Has only done about 200 miles between mot's since I've had it, has all mot's since first one all dated the same as date of registration, have original yamaha owners pack with spare key in original plastic sleeve.
It's not the tidiest on the planet as it has a few scratches on the paintwork and the usual yamaha engine paint issues but is a good bike, chain and sprockets replaced about 600 miles ago.
£2300 will take it away, I can't be arsed with tyre kickers or haggling as I'm not even sure I want to sell it (don't get me wrong, I will) so if you think you are going to turn up and beat me down save your time and effort, I fancy a change and can't justify another bike in the garage doing very little.
Current mot runs till late october but I will put a fresh one on it for sale.
Reg is KY53 *** so if you have a fetish for ky jelly this is the bike for you, if you don't give it a go, you never know till you try it....... :lol

Update: Slight misfire sorted by a good clean and balance of carbs.
