Heavy Throttle & no pull low down - 2005 FZS1000
Posted by: b1k3rdude - 31-05-19, 07:21 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Ok So I haven't been riding the FZS for a long while, first winter and then ULEZ and Jumped on the bike today and found some niggles -

  • I have been riding a GSF1200 and now 1250 all this time and the FZS feels gutless below 2500rpm compared to the bandits. When I go to pull away half the time Im bogging the bike down untill I slip the clutch and once I get above 2000-2500 all is as expected and  bike pulls like a turbine.
  • The throttle action feels very heavy and again it might be the bandit versus the FZS again, but I don't remember the FZS throttle always being that heavy.
So my plan off attack over the weekend weather permitting is -
  • check exup vale is moving freely and smoothly and check the action of the exup cables and servo - for the bogging down issue (if the valve isnt returning back to closed at low rpm - would this even be the causing of the bogging down or is it all down to the Bandits just having more torque pull at very low rpm?
  • disconnect the throttle cables and check the throttle twist body moves freely, check the inner cables move freely .
What else should I be looking for or checking, suggestions welcome.

  Chain & sprocket recommendations
Posted by: roxburd - 31-05-19, 11:32 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

So the trip to the Isle of Man convinced me it's time to replace the chain & sprockets. The slack isn't too big and the 10-link length isn't too big but the difference between the looser and tighter spots is big enough that at a slow cruise it slaps about horribly. Also, the rear sprocket teeth are pretty worn.

On Internet searches I'm seeing a lot of chains with split links. With a 140bhp bike I would automatically go for an endless chain. I'm gonna service all the suspension linkages while I'm at it so there's no extra work required to fit an endless chain anyway.

Do you go for a split-link chain for the FZS1000???

Also, any other advice / recommendations on product?? Replacement gotchas / tips??

I've been given some Maxton link rods which raise the back end so I'm planning to fit them too - anyone tried them?? I recently notice that the previous owner had rammed the pre-load right up to the max, presumably to improve the geometry so hopefully I can put these links in and put the pre-load back to mid-range.

Cheers!!

Fuel Tank 600 vs 1000 are they the same (or very nearly..?)
Posted by: sussexfzs - 31-05-19, 10:17 AM - Forum: General - Replies (10)

Posting to general in the hope that someone lucky enough to own both bikes can answer this :

I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere...
[/size]Is the fuel tank on the final 2002/3 FZS600 foxeye the same external size and shape as the tank on the FSZ1000? As far as I am aware there is (I think) a 1 litre difference but don't know if this is down to something internal like the length of the filler head or something similar. I don't have a 1000 near me to compare but from images online the tanks look very similar.Reason for asking is that I'm looking for a tank cover (Bagster) for a 2003 FZS600 and don't know if tank covers for the 1000 will also fit either exactly or very nearly..? I know that covers for the pre 2002 FZS 600 are totally out of the question because the tank shape is totally different.

  Chain rust on the inside
Posted by: orion kid - 30-05-19, 09:03 PM - Forum: FZ6 / Fazer - Replies (3)

Just got my first proper bike, FZ6 S2 (08) a few weeks back, having been on a Vespa previously, so total noob about a lot of stuff but learning as quick as I can. My question is about my chain (pic posted). Is it OK to have this rusty appearance on the inside? And if not what should be done about it. Outside of chain looks perfectly fine being a nice gunmetal grey colour.

Hi been looking at fazers on ebay and this pops up ; https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=...1773119047
Just wondering what people's thoughts were on this?
Would it be an easy fix?
What could of caused this?
Looks like an electrical fire of some sort can't see any other damage ?

I think its great news that Danny Kent has been offered Leon Camiers MV Agusta for BSB,its already turning into one of the most competitive seasons, and once he gets the hang of things I think he will do well, you don't get a Moto 3 world title handed on a plate do you? always rated him me, just got a bit mixed up with pressure and management I think.
