Lighting problem / Electrics expert required!
Posted by: StuartGSXR - 07-07-19, 04:27 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (73)

Hi one and all.
New to the club and sorry to be starting with a problem. I ended up here after doing a google search of my issue so here I am.
I have a 2003 Foxeye 600, it is used as my commuter and does 70 miles a day 4 or 5 days a week. In November last year I upgraded the headlight bulbs but they are the 60/55 versions so no probs there. I always have my headlights on even in the day time so the headlight switch is always in the on position.

On the way to work on Friday, I noticed near the end of my journey that I could not see the reflection of my lights in the car in front. Got to work and sure enough no headlights.  Turned the bike off, checked the fuse and all good. Took one of the bulbs out and all good, refitted the bulb and put the ignition on and all was well. At the end of the day, turned the ignition on and lights came on nd started to ride home. Again, when I was nearly home it was clear no headlights were on, got home and checked and sure enough they were off and have not come back on at all.
Did a bit of a google and came up with a couple of threads on here about high powered bulbs and the 2 relays behind the clocks.Took the screen off and found the relays, no click from either of them when I turn the ignition on. I checked everything and no sidelights, headlights, tail light, full beam off the toggle switch, brake light or horn. The lights come on if you press the pass light ok and if you put the key in the park light position of the ignition the side lights and the rear tail lights come on so no issue with the wiring to either.Today I took the 4 pin relay out and looped the 2 power connectiors that go into it and the headlights came on (but no side lights or rear lights still).
So I am thinking there is definitely a problem with the 4 pin relay, the question is, would this effect the tail light, brake light and horn?
Any help gratefully appreciated.

  Pipercross filters
Posted by: VNA - 06-07-19, 08:24 PM - Forum: General - Replies (28)

Anybody had any issues with pipercross filters?
I bought mine a few years ago.  Don’t do many miles.  I figured it had been in there for a few years now and it was about time I dug it out and cleaned it.
As you can see the paint has been flaking off. (photos to follow)  This is it after I’ve set about it with the kitchen vegetable brush.  I’ve cleaned and washed it as per pipercross instructions using their cleaning kit and it’s in my conservatory drying overnight.
But this paint is on the clean side, some of it must have already passed through the carbs.
So dunno what to do.
1.        1.  Stick it in and stop worrying – the bike has already consumed a good bit of the paint.
2.      2.  Throw it in the bin and get a paper one – sod fancy filters.
3.      3.  Contact pipercross and see what they have to say.

Anybody else had this issue?

  WANTED - Full luggage rack
Posted by: RedLeader - 05-07-19, 05:08 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - No Replies

Hi there,

Do you have a full luggage rack you are willing to part with? Can't find any available online to go on to a 2003 FZS600 :wall

Let me know what you have. Would also consider just a top box rack and mount for the short term.

Thanks,

Dan

Air screws - in or out to lean
Posted by: Captain Haddock - 05-07-19, 02:39 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Can someone please remind me which way the air screws go on a though to lean off a touch, carbs are ivanised but after standing I've just blown the passages and jets through to cure a misfire but still got a tiny splutter just at pulling away speed, carbs are balanced and idles lovely I think it's just a touch rich.Currently 4 turns out but note ivanising instructions recommend 4.5-5 turns out, is that leaner or richer? Must find a small child to get their hands in to adjust and try.Otherwise runs superbly and pulls like a train all the way to "a tad over 70 officer".
