  Intro for Revilo
Posted by: Revilo18 - 30-09-11, 04:08 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Hi there, I'm looking to buy a fazer (98-02) in the coming weeks (trying to get a bargain as winter starts to show). This will be my first 600 and I've absolutely got my heart set on a fazer. Looking for one that's going to ride everyday - rain or shine but don't want more the 20k on the clock - heard that cam tensioners go, downpipes rust etc etc.

You guys are the experts. I love these bikes (ridden a 1998 and a 2004 and the 1998 was much more fun). Can you offer any guidance on what to spot on a second hand one? Are there any signs that it's a dud that I should look out for. I'm aware that these are bomb-proof bikes and rarely give any trouble but if there was soemthing that was costly to replace and goes pretty regularly then it's be great to hear it!
Cheers
Revilo

  I'm back in the fold
Posted by: markp2 - 30-09-11, 03:47 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (3)

I have just joined the new style forum. I was a member of the old one for about 7 or 8 years but have had other distractions recently which prevented much bike activity.
Still got the same Gen 1 and it still goes like a goodun.
Cheers,
Mark (on the old forum as 'mark pollard')

  Gathering

after the last one I said that was enough. the logistics of the supplies is just too much hassle due to the location of the venue. last couple of times I'd wondered about a change of location, so...

if the Gathering in the Glen was to stay alive, which part of Scotland would interest you?

not that I'm offering to carry on as organiser - cos I'd be more than happy for someone else to step forward.

What was your first car ?
Posted by: mr grimsdale - 30-09-11, 02:05 PM - Forum: General - Replies (78)

prob been done before but as we now have a "new" forum lets do it again.  I`ll start.

My first car was a 1968 Ford Cortina 1600 GT that I bought from a scrap yard two weeks after passing my test, paid £50 for it, put a set of wings on it got it sprayed red with a black roof....all the rage at the time !.  :o

Got it MOT`d kept it for about 6 months then sold it to a boy racer for £200 who then decided to wreck it after having it for a month. Was a great car loved it so much I then went and bought a 1600E.    Smile

Just got here. Looks shiny. Much better. Lovin' the red mongrel bike at the top of the page.

See you around,

Steve.

Ignition Advancer giving off more vibes than standard setup
Posted by: kebab19 - 30-09-11, 01:07 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

As per the old messageboard, I fitted a modified ignition advancer which does give a bit more low-down grunt.

I balanced the carbs yesterday after doing my valve clearances last week. Valves all set to mid-spec clearances.

Took the bike out for a decent spin today and encountered a lot more vibes than the standard setup, particularly around 4-6000rpm. It clears up from about 7000 upwards but I'm finding it quite irritating....the vibes through the bars are reminiscent of my old Bandit1200, which was part of the reason I got shot of it.

Anything worth trying to fix the problem? Think I read something years ago about adjusting the TPS to compensate......

  engine tuning

what wisdom is there about tuning our engines? i haven't seen anything other than ivanising - which is pretty much unique for a forum. there's usually at least a few that have overbored, balanced and lightened etc...
