| Stainless steel downpipes - maintainance? |

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find it. I have stainless downpipes on my FZS600 mark 1, and I let them get in a bit of a state. I've had them off and been getting the rust off with a whirly wire brush drill attachment. It's leaving them very tarnished still though and I'm wondering what to do. Stainless means stainless all the way through, not just a coating like chroming, right?
Pics: http://imageshack.us/g/508/fazerzorst1640.jpg/
My options are:
Nowt, leave it skanky
sandpaper, but this takes material off
Paint - but I seem to remember that stainless doesn't take paint well?
Cheers if anyone can help.

Any tips on how to get to this on a gen1 with the least amount of dis-assembly? Mr Haynes is singularly unhelpful - follow the wire, undo the bolt, slide it out. My dainty little paws won't even get close!!!
As an aside I got no error code when I disconnected it - is that normal? I'm pretty sure that it is my problem as the volt meter did not move from zero while turning the wheel with the ignition on.

finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dont know whats wrong with ya login register bit but its taken me an "hour" to get it sorted. was registered but every time i tried to login it wouldnt let me!
right, previous user name was justy1000 & was in the middle of making some AIS caps up.
cut along story short, what turned out to be just making the 4 caps has turned into making up a complete kit. thats the 4 main caps & the 2 airbox caps.
cant seem to post pics so to make it easier for me jump on over to the fazer 1000 forum & have a look at the tech & mod sec under " prototype AIS caps" to get an idea of what theyre like.
just 1 draw back, i will be making a limited number (try to make as many as i can) as im due for an op on thursday which will take me out of action for at least 2 months.
i will be posting them in the for sale section on the fazer 1000 forum (so keep an eye out) to make it easier for me to manage & i dont miss anyone out due to watching 2 forums.....

Hi all, swapped my BMW 850R a while back for a 2004 FZS 1000. Just joined this group and After reading various postings on here and other Fazer sites, I wondered if there is any way I can tell, externally, if my bike has been "Ivanised?"
The reason I ask is, although it seems to perform very well, on startup I don`t need the choke with throttle shut. If I put the choke on I have to give it some throttle to start.
I am given to understand that as standard, these bikes are, if anything, a bit on the weak side when cold.
I don`t want to start stripping the carbs to see if it`s been "done", so I wondered if installers usually mark the carbs in some way to say if it`s been converted.
Ray.
