Central heating pump, does it keep running when the thermostat clicks the heating off or should it stop and come back on when the thermostat clicks on again?

Back to back shock test.

We all know about the standard Mk1 Fazer shock so I'll not go into to much detail apart from the fact that it was a bit wooly, soft with not a lot of adjustment if you wanted a firmer ride. For a 150lbs of rider like myself it was okay but not up to the job when pushed hard, or with luggage or pillion.

That standard shock went last year with the replacement of R1 forks and a re-spring re-gased standard rear Fazer unit. The spring fitted is an Ohlins 01091-12/85 L474. The shock is good but would be more suited to a heavier rider (160-180lbs). Remember I'm a lightweight but I have been known to push a bike hard. When riden hard the re-sprung shock is brilliant, though a little on the firm side. The shock gives plenty of feedback but because of my light weight it was very easy to get the back end out if you were heavy fisted in any way The shock is way to stiff for my light weight. Two up this wasn't a problem and the shock copes very well. Good with luggage or pillion. I'd recommend this mod for riders over 160-180 lbs.

Feedback from my seven year old daughter after a ride out this afternoon went something like this...
... It's not as bumpy and dosn't kick you up the bum like before. It's realy smooth. The back doesn't squish in the corners when you go faster but you can feel all the bumps and... ripples in the road. Really cool! It's a lighter shock... you can tell when you pick them both up, and it's got less whirly (coils in the spring) bits. And the springy bit is a different yellow. lol

Initialy I would say the bike is transformed and it's certainly way better than the skock shock in terms of feedback and grip I can't coment on what it's like with the standard forks but I'm sure it'll be an improvement. Next time out I'll do a longer solo run and maybe change some settings. I also need to have another go at adjusting the sag.

Original shock 5/10
Ohlins spring shock 7/10 (could be 8/10 for heavier rider).
R6 shock 9/10 (only because I've not set it up how I like it yet. Could be 10/10 once sorted).

Another newbie to the forum.    Been using the forum for a while for tips about my Fazer, thought I'd better join up and introduce myself.

As you have just read, I own a Fazer, she's a 600 mk1, and my second Fazer now, first being about 8 or so years ago. I also own a home built R1 streetfighter. The Fazer's for work covering 40+ miles per day, and the R1 comes out for the sunny days. :rolleyes

I was an engineer in the Army for 17 years, and just play with the engineering as a hobby now with a carreer elsewhere. If it has an engine, i'll play with it/tune it/tweak it or blow it up trying to improve it!

There seems to be no way of finding out exactly what the paint code is for a blue 2002 fzs600.  I think its either DPBMC or DPBML i.e. 0564 Deep Purplish Blue Metalic or 0865 Galaxy Blue.  I can't find anything on the bike that refers to a paint code.  Only code I can see is under the seat and reads 5RT1-070 but this seems to just be the model no?  I took the belly pan and new front fender to the paint shop today but as the guy correctly said there are about 100 yamaha blues and while he could narrow it down theres no way to say for sure what the colour is without the code. 
Any help would be great,

buy one of these here Fazer 1000 contraptions - just as soon as I sell my big, beefy TDM900 which is, frankly, in danger of sending me to sleep.


No doubt as soon as I get one I'll be back on here crying like a baby about it being too fast and why didn't anybody warn me etc etc.


The question I'd like to ask you all is - have any of you found yourself gettting bored with the 'thou and wishing you'd gone for a ZX 9/10 or Gixer or whatever.

2007 Fz1s in Silver for sale -  excellent condition.  8000 mainly dry miles. Ivans FCE fitted. Ivans Modded butterflies, K &N filter , Led tail/stop light, scorpion end can, Wavy discs, Yamaha lower fairings which complete the bike (imho). Colour coded hugger. Tail tidy.  Last 3 letters of reg are YAM.  New rear tyre. tax and test due March but its only done about 100 miles since last MOT so should p*ss it.
Reason for sale - I'm buying a new bike and dealer has made a derisory offer  so i'm open to offers over £4400

My Gen1 side stand seems too short. The bike leans over at a right jaunty angle. It is stable enough but a worry to put down even on flat ground.

I have measured it thusways: With the stand up I used a tape rule and measured along the center of the stem from the center of the mounting bolt to the flat of the sole. The figure I came up with was 245mm.

Is anyone prepared to get down on the floor and measure theirs for me    ? Is it likely that this is non standard? Are there any longer ones that I can fit?
