  Slight issues. Help please!
Posted by: cyclingscott - 25-01-12, 10:37 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (21)

Hi,

I've been having a few issues with the bike starting recently and was hoping that somebody on here can suggest any possible solutions.

Haven't been riding it a lot recently because of the lovely Welsh weather and the salt on the roads and it wouldn't start a couple of weeks ago when I tried it. Put the battery on charge and a couple of days later when I tried it it started straight away with no problems.

Went out on it again on Monday and it struggled to start a bit in the morning but wasn't too bad. Left it all sitting outside work for about 4hours and then it really struggled to start again when I came to go home. Also, all the way home it seemed like it wasn't running quite right-almost felt like it was going to stall when I stopped at lights or junctions (this might have seemed worse than normal because I had it in my head that it had only just started).

Any suggestions how to sort it out or is this just normal? A colleague with more experience of bikes suggested it might need new plugs and a mechanic at a local dealer agreed that it might. I've just read the thread about the Full Monty kit and it seems like that might solve some of the problems.

It's an '02 1000 with 18k on the clock. The last service stamp is from 14k but it had an oil and filter change at 15k.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Need to vent re fog lights
Posted by: HarryHornby - 25-01-12, 09:47 AM - Forum: General - Replies (38)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Cagers using fog lights, FFS they don't make your car look good, they dazzle me, especially when it's dark and wet, plus they just make you look like a C8NT!!!!  Double plus, it's ILLEGAL!  TURN THEM OFF!  :grumble

If I didn't have a Fazer I'd dazzle you back with my main beam!  :\

IMO car manufacturers should be forced to make one switch for fog lights, one that turns on the front and rear at the same time, this might make people less likely to turn on just their fronts, or, reverse the switch as it is on most cars at the moment, you turn on the rear ones before you are able to turn on the fronts.

It's really starting to p1ss me off on my daily commute!

  Gen 1 Forks
Posted by: dekker555 - 25-01-12, 12:11 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

I'm stripping my front forks for a general check, clean up and spring change, and on reading Haynes would like to know if there is a way to remove the damper cartridges when they turn within the fork. Haynes quote a factory tool for this job and can't find any other references to it elsewhere. Many thanks in anticipation.

  Blonde joke
Posted by: limax2 - 24-01-12, 10:37 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

A blonde joke with some Canadian content....
As a North Bay trucker stops for a red light on Hwy.11, a
blonde catches up.. She jumps out of her car, runs up to his
truck, and knocks on the door. The trucker lowers the
window, and she says, "Hi, my name is Heather, and you
are losing some of your load!"

The trucker ignores her and proceeds down the street.
when the truck stops for another red light, the girl
catches up again. She jumps out of her car runs up and
knocks on the door. Again, the trucker lowers the window.

As if they've never spoken, the blonde says brightly,
"Hi, my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!"

Shaking his head, the trucker ignores her again and
continues down the street. At the third red light, the same
thing happens again.

All out of breath, the blonde gets out of her car, runs up,
knocks on the truck door.  The trucker lowers the window.. Again she says, "Hi, my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!"

When the light turns green the trucker revs up and races to
the next light. When he stops this time, he hurriedly gets
out of the truck, and runs back to the blonde. He knocks on
her window, and as she lowers it, he says,..............

"Hi, my name is Kevin, it's winter in CANADA , and I'm driving the salt truck.

Oil lamp comes on when running :(
Posted by: tomlinscote - 24-01-12, 05:25 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (18)

mmm wont press spell chech again as it deleted all the post!!
Anyway....Went out today to start bike up (2004 Fazer 1000 no mods save larger screen) and all the warning lamps went out after bike has started. Left bike to idle for a few mins, came back and the oil lamp was on. Gave it a little more revs to see if it would go out but no it stayed on Sad Stopped bike and restarted lamps all went off as excpected and this time the oil lamp didn't come back on. This is the second time I have had this happen, the first time I went for a ride anyway and the bike behaved as it should, but as it happenbed again I turned it off and put it back in the shed. The level is fine, near the top of the sight glass. It has been cold and wet here so I have not been out for just over a week, but I have left the bike for much longer than that with no such problems before, any ideas?
Also noticed a strange electrical sounding noise coming from the front of the engine area when I turned the ign on but didn't start the bike, not the usual whirring and clicking sound that dies away which I believe to be the exup sorting itself out, but maybe wrong - I usually wait for this to stop before starting......????
Cheers

  DOT 4 or 4* or 5.1?
Posted by: Ghoti - 24-01-12, 05:03 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (9)

Never thought about changing the DOT rating of my brake fluid since I found out that DOT 5 could not be mixed with DOT 4 (and I'm too lazy to clean the whole system out rather than a quick flush through).  Anyway, looking for brake fluid last night and I find that you can get a "super DOT 4 (like Motul RBF)" and a DOT 5.1 that can be mixed with DOT 4.

I think the only time I had brake fade on the Fazer was when chasing better riders down hill on the Alps and using a lot of hard braking.  It is easy enough to change the fluid so unless it will last a LOT longer I don't think I need additional life.  Any other benefits with the superior DOT 4 or DOT 5?

What is the collective thought about brake fluid?  Stick with DOT 4 and save the extra pennies, use the DOT 5.1 (at twice the price) or go up to a racing brake fluid (at 4 times the price)?

Technoflex fork springs for 79€ shipping incl!!

I am not sure if it is allowed to put this, they are clearing stock and I asked for 1kg/mm linear springs and I am waiting for them now.

I have nothing to do with the shop, they are not even from my country, I just think that they are too cheap to be quiet. If I receive them properly and administrators agree, I can put the site here.

New rider concerned by sprocket nut problems!
Posted by: edc - 24-01-12, 02:45 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (15)

Hi all - 1st post!

I've been riding for just over two years problem free on my 2001 FZS600S and have now only just started 'customising' with heated grips etc. so am fairly inept when it comes to mechanics of the bike - but hopefully this forum will improve that!

I am somewhat concerned with this sprocket nut issue thingy where it appears that the wrong bits and pieces were used by Yamaha...  So how do I know if mine has a problem or not?!?!  I've recently had the spockets and chain replaced and the guys who did it didn't mention anything (Allens in Cambridge - a Yamaha dealer - what's happened to them I don't know!).

Is it only the early(ier) models?  Nothing in my service history indicates that any remedial work has been done...

Any help/comments welcome!

Cheers,

EdC
