thinking of geting some fairing lowers off ebay, they say they come pre drilled to fit to existing points
on the bike, does anyone know where these points are and what the bike would look like with them on?

  Not so newbie
Posted by: judge148 - 14-02-12, 10:28 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (1)

Hi folks,
Well, way back in 1998 when I was looking to buy my first brand new big bike, the choice was obvious. I went out and bought a shinny red Fazer. Unfortunately I had to smash that bike into a wall in France but don't hold that against me  :'(
Dozens of bikes later I found myself bike less and needing a new, do it all ride which will get me to work with a smile on my face and get me easily around the Pyrenees this spring time. It wasn't a difficult choice Wink.
Back to my roots it was, a 1998 Black Fazer now sits proudly in my garage, learning Spanish, eating Tapas, eagerly waiting for Springtime.

Bars open, my round!

Steve.

  Clutch biting point
Posted by: judge148 - 14-02-12, 10:07 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

Just got myself another Fazer 14 years after buying my first back in 1998. Anyhow, less of the nostalgia. My new bike has been round the block a few times and is no spring chicken. The clutch biting point is very late and I was wondering how this could be rectified? The adjuster at the lever is fully wound out and the clutch isn't slipping at all.

Any suggestions?

Kissed rear-end(ing) by a stranger on Valentine's Day

She was extremely apologetic and said she must have looked down for an instant, when I was waiting to turn right into my drive:

(Another 11 photos on photobucket for the record)

No damage to bike, just the loud thud of her car hitting the rear tyre of my stationary bike. Bike and I remained upright. I suppose I ought to get the bike checked over e.g. rear wheel alignment? Her car lost its number plate and has damage to the plastic grill below it. All photographed including the plastic debris from the grill.

She's keen not to get insurers involved. Neither am I as there appears to be no damage (but I do need to look it over in daylight). Plus I have a witness who thrust her details into my hand.

Let it go?

  loss of power
Posted by: taksi - 14-02-12, 07:52 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

Hi guys, I have a desperate loss of power at very low revs and wondered if anyone could throw any light on it. Bike is a '58 plate FZ1 fazer with full Akropovic, minus cat and ex-up and no power commander. Came like that from the showroom 2 yrs and 12k ago. Symptoms are these. Approaching traffic lights/junction on a closed throttle up to 2000rpm in 1st/2nd gear 20mph'ish and open the throttle. There is then a severe loss of power like it starts, stops, starts, stops etc very rapidly until it reaches 2500rpm and then she's off like a good 'un. So far this is what I've done. I'm a car mechanic by the way, though this deep into a bike fault I'm getting a bit lost.
1. Checked  oil/coolant levels. If the oil is low on a modern car engine it will lurch into "limp mode". No probs all ok.
2. Changed the plugs  (which have only done 2k) for the old ones for elimination purposes, still same.
3. Let the tank empty and refilled with Shell Vpower and checked idle speed was 1200-1300 rpm. Still same.
4. Removed the tank and checked all the electrical connectors I could see, snapped them open, all nice and dry and refitted. TPS, O2 sensor, primary pump, injectors, plug coils and ecu. Still same.
5. Checked vacuum hoses were connected to the throttle bodies correctly, including Scottoiler pick up. Checked rubber seals between upper and lower airbox halves and airbox to throttle body gaskets. All ok. Road test again, still same.
6. No fault codes shown on dash. Removed air sensor conector from top of airbox and turned ign on. Code 22 appears on the dash indicating that the fault code reporting to the dash is ok.

At this point I feel 10 yrs older at the thought of going to my dealer and totting up £57 for each hour they look at it aws I've already spent 20-25 hrs in my garage.

I've just managed to get a PDF of the official workshop manual off flea bay for a couple of quid and it's pretty damned good. Only thing now is, via my new manual, to check the ohm values on the throttle position sensor and hope for the best.

Anybody out there got any previous with a similar fault or just any ideas as my head hurts now. :'(

Ta in advance,

Taksi

  Exhaust Beacket

I've got a Carbon Can Co round stainless can on my 04 Gen1 and the bracket that holds the can to the footpeg hanger has snapped right at the crease in the 'P' shape. I've found phone number on tinternet for CCC but it's unobtainable. Anyone know if these guys are still trading? Failing that are there other brackets that might fit. Any advice would be, as ever, much appreciated.
