  Fairing lowers

Had an FZ1 Fazer 2009 lava red for 2 years now and really enjoying it but am new to this club; looks very interesting and friendly, l hope. I have managed to get a good condition set of Yamaha fairing lowers for the bike with, l hope, all the fittings. Can anyone provide me with fitting instructions please? When l get time l will post up some pics of the bike although it is very standard, not into bling and that stuff just prefer to get out there and ride it. Going with 5 mates to Germany for 5 days the end of the month when of course the weather will be fantastic.  :rolleyes  Cheers. John

It's not meant to do that... is it?

Just had my 54 plate Gen1 MOT'd and, apart from an iffy horn, now replaced, no problems from the tester.
I did notice, however, that when he was trying the horn, the brake light came on. This is not something I've come across before, but, as the tester wasn't bothered, should I be? Anyone else had this happen and is it a sign of impending disaster or something I can safely ignore?

FZS 1000 2001 - colected, thoughts and questions
Posted by: River Valley - 03-05-12, 03:47 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (12)

Collected my fazer on Tuesday and rode it to Hull ferry that afternoon, then on to home in the Mosel, Germany, on Wednesday (torrential rain and poor visibility almost the entire way). I've had two first gen fazers before.
It seems to be as good a bike as I remember it to be (hence buying another), but I've a few questions I hope you'll help with:

- the suspension has been 'sorted' (previous owner's words) by Ktech. The front end feels a little firmer than I remember, but still a little 'bouncy' (especially compared to my blade). The rear seems ok. I can't recall the standard shock at all, visually. This has a red spring, a cylinder (excuse my ignorance), remote resevoir?, with blue adjustment collars and a blue end 'cap' on the right side of the cylinder. What have I got? just the Ktech spring or a complete unit?

- the ride height seems higher than I remember and looks jacked-up. I read the thread on dog bones and it would appear that mine are shorter than standard, explaining the height. My legs/hips seem to ache sooner than I remember on my previous bikes. My question is, does having shorter dog bones and subsequent raised ride height, affect the relationship - in terms of distance - between foot peg and seat? I ask because I've just measured it on the fazer and on my blade and they're about the same, which is interesting, because I got the fazer because the blade was causing aches in my legs. Coul be that I'm just getting old and stiff of course! You can see where I'm going with this .... if the leg position is more-or-less the same, I'm wondering if I should just fir higher bars to the blade (cnc comfort kit), as it's - in my opinion - a better handling bike. If there is a relationship between dog legs/ride height and distance between pegs and seat, then maybe I can sort it by returning it to standard.

- Is there an easy way (ie for a mechanical numpty) to tell if the exup is working as it should be? I was told that the previous owner serviced it every year, but the collector box is quite rusty and I don't know if this is significant regarding the exup?

-The tyres are Bridgestone Battlaxe, with an 015 on the front and an 023 on the rear. Is this an acceptable or commom combination?

Hope you don't mind me asking so many questions, being relatively new to the forum, but as they say in my native Northumberland, 'shy bairns get nowt'! Thanks in anticipation.

  Second hand bike advice
Posted by: Bandanaman - 03-05-12, 02:34 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (16)

Hi people, I'm a newbie who has passed their DAS and looking into getting a Fazer, but I am in need of some advice.

I have found what looks like a good deal, 1999, FSH, 32k, stainless steel downpipes, £1295.  Now I'm obviously hoping I can bring the dealer down slightly on that price, but please could you tell me if this seems reasonable to you and also if there is anything in particular I should be checking or wary of an a bike this age (I already know to check the servicing of the rear caliper).  I've tried searching the forums, but to no avail!

Thank you very much for any help in advance

R1 shift mod: prevent shift rod fouling on frame.
Posted by: b1k3rdude - 03-05-12, 12:36 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (23)

Afternoon

Discovered my new fazer had the R1 shift arm, and that the connecting rod was bent to suit. I have a spare stock set wich I put on, but in the mean time I would like to if anyone (Devilsyam?) has come up with a better way of using the R1 shifter so that the connecting rod dosent foul on the frame..?

  Ram Mount
Posted by: violetsdaddy - 03-05-12, 09:28 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (9)

Hi All,

Quick question:

I've got a ram mount for my sat nav.
On my old bike it fitted into the hole through the head stalk, you removed a little plastic cover on the big bolt and squeezed it in there.
On the Fazer, there is a metal dome instead of a wee plastic cover, can I pop this off and do the same thing or do I need a handlebar mount??

  scottoiler advice.
Posted by: para300 - 02-05-12, 11:21 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Hi there, [/size]I've recently picked up my first big bike in the form of a Fazer600 fitted with a scottoiler. The device seems to be doing a pretty good job to date and i  have noticed that the oil will need replenishing shortly. As a result I purchased a new bottle of standard scottoiler oil. It arrived today and just as i was about to top up the reservoir i noticed the oil in the reservoir was of a reddish colour and the scottoiler oil in the bottle was of a blue shade. At this point I stopped. I am concerned that mixing the two different oils could cause a problem. I have heard that the oil colours have changed to prevent confusion between the traditional and thin oils. whats your thourghts on mixing these two oils or should i leave well alone and attempt a complete change of oilregards Para300

  New to Fazering in Derbyshire
Posted by: rocketman59 - 02-05-12, 10:27 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (7)

Hi everyone..kinda new to all this biking thing again but just bought my first FZS600 after passing Mod 2 on 19th April at 52. Started 'born again' journey last June after 35 year break riding my trusty RD200 Electric. It's great to be back out there on a proper blokes bike and really looking forward to summer ride-outs. Fox-Eye Fazer is in great shape with just over 8k on the clock and she rides really well with plenty of go!
